  1. This is very interesting. Anyone else irritated how 2 of the 3 announced television games are @ the rubber bowl? AND in novemeber nonetheless. As if we don't have enough problems drawing and late in the season, we dont need to give people another reason to stay home.Actually, I don't mind seeing the "old bowl" get a nice sort of "send off" on TV late in the last year of its usefulness. At least these games are in EARLY November. This will also give the TV crews plenty of opportunity to talk up the new digs on campus. This schedule isn't great, but it's not a total disaster either. Not sure what to make of the Miami omision, though.
  2. I see my original logic has a slight error. If WMU is upset and we advance, then we could end up playing someone who we have already defeated. Still, this certainly defies the odds. And I agree, what SWEET revenge there is to be had if the Zips can somehow shoot it straight and consistently at the Q.
  3. I don't know why this didn't dawn on me until now (someone mentioned earlier about the Zips having to face teams we are 0-4 against to win the tourny), but what are the odds that EVERY team we could POSSIBLY play in the tournament is a team that we have not defeated this year? Very strange for a #3 seed to be in this dilemma.
  4. While the subject still seems to be fresh, I happened on two tickets to the UA-Wisconsin game being offered on eBay. This would seem to suggest that the game is still a go for 2008?Zip-Badger TicketsHey and they're ONLY asking $149.00 for both of them
  5. Welcome to the board and I appreciate the info. Hope there are no hard feelings from the Capital One Mascot Challenge! I'd like to think that the Zips will give you a pretty good game this year. Hopefully, I can swing this pleasant road trip into my schedule. Gotta love the Finger Lakes region in Autumn.
  6. I happen to agree that Can't will probably make this an interesting game. Jarvis and Edelman are not the easiest guys to prepare for and I can see BC coming into the game thinking it'll be an easy W. Having said that,
  7. That would appear to be a good strategy assuming the MAC continues to get an automatic bid. I would think that if BG or WMU or both drop the sport, the NCAA might revoke it (automatic bid).
  8. I disagree completely that we never saw NFL caliber talent out of Nate in the last 2 years. The problem was we only saw it on 1 out of every 25 plays or so. You never know, with all of the specialization in the NFL Nate might be a better fit there, where he might not have to play many downs. He'll still need to learn to work a whole lat harder regardless.
  9. If Cinci is a sellout, the Rubber Bowl will collapse into the hillside.I do hope they do some engineering studies/stress tests to see how many people can safely sit on each of the remaining bleacher seats and simultaneously use the troughs. Would love to see a lot of people show up for the Rubber Bowl Nostalgia Tour. I wonder if Mother Nature will grant us decent weather to enjoy the last 5 or so dates out there. Hope so. "Trough" talk never ceases to put a grin on my face. I'm gonna miss that old Bowl.
  10. With the rise of the Bearcats under Kelly, I would hope for a good crowd for this one as well. I don't think it necessarily has to sell out to justify the new stadium though.Does anyone else thing there might be a slight "nostalgia" effect that could boost overall attendance in the last year at the Bowl? I think it's very possible, and I hope the U plays it up that way.Wasn't the consensus on this board that the Badger game is dead for 2008?
  11. Even if Jabari doesn't get a fair shot to make the NFL initially, he'll likely get other chances down the road if he can excel in the CFL (something I think he has an excellent chance of doing.....perhaps it'll be as a TE like QuickZips proposes). I think this is probably his best option anyway. He was a pretty high pick up there, even after just his JR season.
  12. Are you serious?we lost by 3 pretty much...How about based on our play against Can't, the team you're talking about....we have a chance because we were up 10 at half and lost by 2...Debbie Downer damn.Excellent "Debbie Downer" reference! The only thing missing is the forlorn trumpet playing whaa wha wha whaaaaaaaaaI dunno, after another 20 win season I might start feeling nostalgic for the days of Ken Cunningham.Freshmen Memories
  13. I despise Can't as much as anyone, but this was a good win for the conference period. It keeps alive the only shot (slim perhaps) for two MAC teams dancing this year. PLUS, I believe this win over St. Mary's signals the end of Jim Christian at Can't. I know I know, Waters/Heath/Christian with little, if any drop-off, but I'll take my chances with a new guy, particularly with KD now having established his own winning tradition here.It was a nice showing for the MAC, BUT this doesn't change the fact that
  14. Interest seemed to be running in only one direstion. There would be some evidence that he is a smart dude if he had a scholarship offer from Harvard, Yale, Northwestern or North Carolina.Technically speaking, I do not believe that either Harvard or Yale offer athletic scholarships.
  15. It's nice to see that Alexander took the high road with no mention of these incidences in his write-up. I would love to have been a little birdie (anything but a RedSquawk) in and around that situation though. How bizarre.PD Summary
  16. It's hard to imagine T. Pollitz not having his way in this one, but maybe a Dials/Linhart combo will work its magic one more time.
  17. This will make for an interesting side show for this upcoming season. Morgan St. is, at BEST an AVERAGE MEAC program. And the MEAC is probably one of the worst FCS conferences in the country. I think this says something about the interest level in CJ7 at the QB position among other programs.
  18. Thanks uakronkid. skip-zip phrased it well when he said these are just silly games we all, for whatever reason, seem to enjoy watching. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Huskie nation. As a parent of a 1st year college student, in Chicagoland no less, I cannot even begin to imagine what those families are going through.
  19. There has been some talk that both Akron and Cincinnati made offers to him for football, but that he is likely to accept a track scholarship somewhere else.
  20. I hate to be the pessimist, but I see this game as being the one that "get's away" from the Zips. Western is VERY good at home and that combined with our recent inconsistency spells trouble to me. Having said this, I think UA will win 3 of the next 5 games, and a 9-4 conference record heading into the home stretch is not too bad.Western 82Zips 68
  21. The Zips beat Marshall in that one, despite Leftwich's heroics. I think Ryan Myers had something to do with it! In fact, the Zips beating Marshall 2 of the last 3 times they played (perhaps forever?), is one of my all-time favorite Zip football stats.
  22. Great guy and super fan but he's not very active on this site! :-)

  23. This means our QB might actually have someone to throw to this coming season.Other than Harvey, can anybody recall a WR that come in as a freshman and made an impact?Schifino, and maybe Lavel Bailey?I'm pretty sure Bailey made that ridiculous TD catch and run against Nebraska when he was a FR. Kenny Chapman was pretty good right away if I recall. I actually think WR is one of the easier positions from which a FR can make an immediate impact. I think if you are talented enough, you can contribute here quickly. We just haven't had the talent of a Harvey very often.
  24. This is U-G-L-Y ugly!
  25. The first five minutes of each half will tell the tale. Let's hope the Zips bounce back in a huge way.
