I wouldn't be against dropping Cinci for a FCS team for the reasons Racer mentions. I think there is merit to that. I do think that we should be careful about who we schedule, though. A lot of people got a kick out of Appy St. beating Michigan this year. IMO, the biggest mistakes (blocked FG, etc) weren't made on the field that day. The biggest mistake was scheduling them in the first place. A top tier FCS team, I believe, is a more dangerous opponent than, for instance, a mid-level MAC program. The talent level and motivation (try to knock off the "big boy") are about thesame, but a top tier FCS team develops a winning mentality. This can't be underestimated, and I think it's not only a big reason why Appy St. pulled it off against Michigan but it's also a good argument for toning down the Zip schedule a little. I know we have to play "money" games. That's a given. But I think, especially with the new stadium coming, we should be able to compromise a little more. Please do NOT schedule an Appy St., North Dakota St., and it's a good idea to stay away from the Gateway (or Horizon...whatever), Yankee (or CAA...whatever) and Big Sky conferences in general. How 'bout we bring back our good old buddy Howard for a nice stat-stuffer? Anyone who was at that 1st game has to admit, the Howard band made halftime (and the gane in general) very entertaining. Or maybe a non-scholarship FCS team like Bobby Mo or Duquesne from the Pittsburgh area?

6:57 am Monday and Zippy's lead is down to 168 votes!!! Let's go ZipsNation!!!
-
This race is nuts! Just as we agree to vote for Hairy, Goldy goes on a nice run and takes a couple hundred vote lead I guess we just need to vote for whoever looks like they might take charge in the other race?
-
I have a feeling that the majority of the pro-Blob votes are actually anti-Zippy votes orginating from the state of Georgia. Do we reconsider who we vote for in Hairy vs. Goldy? For instance, what if we help Hairy get a big enough lead so that the anti-Zippy vote begins to fade? It looks like we'll have to face Hairy in the Finals anyway. I think we should make sure that ZIPPY joins him there. Anyone have an opinion?

Manley Waller - The old switcheroo
johnnyzip84 replied to KentZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
So he'll be a situational substitute. He only gets the ball when we "have the wind" -
Let's not blow a large, early lead like........well.......like the Mens B-Ball team did at Winthrop last night! Up by around 500 at 9:00 am.

Ahhh the scent of cinnamon....I like, especially around the Holidays. The scent of roses.....sure they smell pretty good, too. The combined scent of cinnamon and roses??? Not sure I find that any more appealing than craps! Just teasing you jeaglet1! I know what you mean about the SEC. But they sure do play a good brand of football.

I think I would rather face Goldielocks for 2 reasons. First, Hairy had the 2nd best record in the regular season. Second, Georgia is in a BCS bowl game and that might cause a tendency to keep their fan base in action for something like this. I say we eliminate the Dawg while we have the chance. But, of course, I'm open for debate.Another question is, how much do we want Goldy or Hairy to win by?
-
OK, Zippy is facing the 'cuse Orange blob in the semis, so it's time to start voting in earnest once again. Zippy has an early 20-14 lead (Igor's 2 FG's the difference) at 9:11 am. Let's go Zip fans!!! Go Zippy!

Losing to Buffalo = unprecedented Losing to Temple? Nah, we've lost to them plenty of times.I don't want to see JD leave just yet, but it wouldn't break my heart if CSU hired him either. If the latter were to happen, I say we take a strong look at the HC from SIU. He looks like the strongest candidate (for the CSU job) to me. The Gateway (or whatever they call it these days) is a tough league and he's had them at the top for almost his entire stay.

Zippy is up by 241 at 8:05 am. Let's keep the full court press on right up until 9:00 am. Arise ZipsNation!!! Go Zippy!!!!

4 Star JC WR to visit U of A...
johnnyzip84 replied to timmyboy's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I hear that he would have been a FIVE star WR, but he holds the ball kinda funny (towards the middle, with the laces out) -
Wow, if these photos weren't "doctored" with something like photoshop, then this is pretty ridiculous as far as I'm concerned. I've seen kids from flag on up who would not EVER hold the ball like that.

The same thing just happened to me, zip81  That sux, 'cause that's what takes the most time....registering names! Oh well, they can't keep us or Zippy down, can they? I just re-registered an "old" name and it seems to work.

We Can be Patient with Dambrot - but not JD
johnnyzip84 replied to ZipAnalyst's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
OK, this is somewhat "tongue in cheek" but let's bring this full-circle, shall we? KD was very successful at Ashland.........................just like Lee Owens??? Let's give Lee his due. The Eagles made the Div 2 playoffs this year. Hey, this isn't any more irrelevant than the original comments about JD, right? -
Down by just 14 at 7:07 am. Come on Zip fans!!! Go Zippy!!!!
-
Hairy Dawg is threatening to spoil Zippy's perfect season, as he leads 1262-1101 as of 12:08. Let's go Zip fans, we need to finish this thing off. Let's put an exclamation point on it with a perfect regular season and roll in the playoffs. Go Zippy!!! Go Zips!!!

58-53 Zips with a little over 5 min left.

They were blown out by about 30 at Utah, but that's a pretty tough place to play so it's hard to tell how good USCU may be. I think it's more a case of another typical slow start in Zip BB.

I think he may have a few distractions there this year that we don't want to bring here.Is this a reference to an underwhelming season at Massillon or something else of which I am not aware?I rather like the idea of bringing Stacy back. He's as solid as they come. His youngest graduates HS this year, so the timing would be good.

Did we both watch the same game? There were more people with red shirts in our backfield than Custer saw Indians at Little Big Horn.I think a huge reason for this was Miami's complete (and mostly justified) lack of respect for UA's ability (inability?) to go down field, and of course this is due mainly to CJ^2. The RedChickens simply loaded the line of scrimmage for the most part. I was thinking this exact thought last night, Cap'n. We NEED Matt Rodgers and/or Jordan Miller to come through in a hurry, ala LeFevour (or even someone remotely resembling him).
-
I was merely looking for effort from the team last night, and for the 1st time in a while they played with heart and emotion. Maybe it helped that JD looked to be so fired up, even before the fair catch infraction by OU. This was a game that tested JD's powers of motivation, and I have to give him credit. The team was ready to play. Let's hope he can keep things positive for the last two games. Is Mondo a player or what?
-
I will be there and paying especially close attention to how much effort I see coming from the team. JD has to show me that he can be a motivator. This means having the ablility to get kids to perform, even when they don't necessarily want to perform. I hope he views it as a chance to see who really wants to play a bigger role next year. I'll be upset if I see the same level of effort we have witnessed the past 9 quarters. I'm not even taling about winning ot losing, although this is the most "winable" of the remaining games as I see it. I just want to see some John Mackey-like effort out of the whole team.
-
I can't make that argument, LAZipFan. But I do have some bad news. This pattern will probably play out for the next THREE games. Proenza is in a tough spot right now, no question.

Terry Bowden (one time UA assistant)? Joe Yost? Bobby Bowden?
