EXCELLENT! My sentiments exactly!

Ouch, I see the game at Western as being a potential killer for our RPI They are a much better team than an RPI of 195 would indicate.
-
Sure looks like Mogadore to me! Excellent example.

Thanks for the link! It'll be interesting to see if he fits into whatever spread offense the Zips end up running over the next few years.

I dunno, maybe it's just me, but once you take this level of cash from a small number of "boosters" for the expressed interested of hiring a certain coach, aren't you setting up a the potential for "meddling" and all sorts of bizarre conflicts of interest? I liken this to a private company going public. Sure, cash is generated in the short term (in this case for a specific aim), but in the long term "management" might also have to answer to a group of powerful "stockholders" who may or may not have the best interests of the University or the Athletic Department in mind. And it just seems to add to the strangeness of this story that SMU is the only NCAA school to have ever suffered the dreaded "death penalty". Weird.

I honestly feel that KD's hands are tied, somewhat, until (when and if) attendence improves. I do like his stance not to play teams from BCS conferences EXCLUSIVELY on the road. I asked the following question on another thread, but I'll ask it again here since I didn't get a response before. Does anyone know whether KD has ever tried (or even wants to try) scheduling a couple of 2 for 1's or 3 for 1's with some of the "elite" programs (either using the JAR or the Q possibly)? I ask this, because I do think that expecting a home and home with these "BCS" schools is totally unrealistic at this point. We probably couldn't even get the better Valley programs (SIU, Wich St, Bradley, Creighton) to agree to a home and home given our current facilities/attendance.

Doing a little research on my own, it looks like this kid (Miller) has good size and strength (played some D-line in HS), but will probably not offer a whole lot of mobility.Jordan Miller's SR Stats

Now that CJ7 is reportedly leaving the program, there has already been some discussion on others threads about what we might expect to see next year at QB. Rogers seems to be a strong possibility since not many of us have a lot of confidence in CJ11. I was just looking on Scout.com and I noticed that verbal commit Jordan Miller from New Philly is now rated a 3 star with a position ranking of 45. Does anyone know much about this kid's game, and is there even a CHANCE that he might get to play as a true freshmen?

I appreciate the Flyer perspective as well. I expect a close game, with UD escaping with a narrow win 82-78.This whole KD scheduling discussion, particularly the "home and away" aspect, has me curious about one thing. I realize that KD does not want to be in the habit of playing "BCS" schools always on the others team's home court. But does anyone know for certain whether KD is willing to play a "BCS" school at their place MULTIPLE times in exchange for a return visit to the JAR? Have we even tried to arrange any 2 for 1's or 3 for 1's with such schools?

Just to clarify, skip-zip, I was NOT necessarily predicting a Zip victory. I was merely pointing out that it's probably an opportune time to be playing the Flyers.
-
YES!!!! Zippy rocks!!!! Finally a championship in NE Ohio!!!
-
The suspense is killing me! Will the numerous carpal tunnel conditions be worth it?
-
Well, the Flyers not only hold on, but rout the Panthers 80-55. Granted, this is going to be a tall order, but if the Zips can pull the surprise on Wednesday, all (last year's MACC Miami Bank Job, the collapse at Winthrop) will likely be forgiven. I see where Dayton follows the Zip game with their A-10 opener AT #25 Rhode Island. I know you still have to win the games on the court, but I can't think of a better situation for Dayton to possibly be on "auto-pilot" Wednesday, coming off of the huge Pitt victory and perhaps looking ahead to URI. You never know?
-
With Dayton up by 17 in the 2nd half against #6 Pitt and Winthrop handing U of Miami it's 1st loss (on the road even) all of a sudden the Zip non-con schedule is getting a nice boost! Let's hope the Flyers can close the deal tonight, yet suffer a let-down when the Zips come to town.

On your 2nd point, Zipsrifle, I think you may have misunderstood the original question. While a playoff system is a hot topic these days, the question posed asked whether the metric system (and as a fellow engineer, I echo your thoughts here) would be adopted before the time people start universally using the terms FBS and FCS in place of the obsolete D1 and D1-AA.
-
Thank you very much! That was going to be my next question though, who is your Athletic Director and where does he sit at the games; so I can go ask him why we have this matchup in mens and womens basketball, but not in football.Should be a decent showing of YSU fans over there on a Friday Night.. cya!I'll give you the answer, because you have a DI-A basket ball team which you don't have in football. Perfect, GoZips88!

A large part of the media and even a good number of head coaches still refer to them as 1 and 1-AA. It's kind of surprising really. I always thought that 1-AA was a horrible name to begin with. I assume it came about because they didn't want to change the naming of D-2 or D-3, yet the NCAA had to "squeeze in" another classification. OK, I ended up piquing my own interest enough to call upon the all-knowing Wikipedia (link below).D-1 History

Three Freshman of the Apocalypse
johnnyzip84 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
In the "big picture", it's far more important how these guys are able to pitch in come February than over the next few games. If they have the ability that some seem to think, it's hard to see them NOT contributing on this team. Miami, OU and Can't all appear to have decent depth, so I would not discount this factor down the stretch in the MAC East. -
This is exactly the attitude that we need to maintain through the weekend. Let's do this ZipNation.

I noticed a little "teaser" blurb on scout.com that made it seem like Avery could be close to committing to the Zips. Here is what it says on his page (you have to be an insider to read the whole thing).Avery gets close to making a decision Top JC wideout is a playmaker and one MAC school is close to getting his commitment-by Seahawks.NET Dec 11, 2007I realise these snippets don't really mean much, but it does seem to suggests that the Zips at least have a shot at this guy. I saw on another site where he is supposed to visit STONY BROOK (?) today and they have offered. I didn't even know that STONY BROOK offered FB scholarships (thought they were I-AA/FCS non-scholarship). Oh well, if it's true that he is visiting a FCS school (and not even a top-tier program at that), then I would like to think this might be a good sign. -
Nice one, ziptrumpet87 I like to imagine that "laughing trumpet" noise being played along with this.
-
This is a terrific hire, not only for NIU but also for the MAC in general. Under Kill, I expect the Huskies to win that elusive MAC title in the next couple of seasons.

Wait till you see what Boo can do! My nephew is a former El Camino O-lineman. I'll have him put in a good word with coaches about our home town. El Camino is located near LAX Airport.Based on the pic of Boo in his JC uniform, he would look natural in a Zip uni! I can just hear all of the female Zip fans now, arguing over who gets to righfully call him "my Boo". Maybe our head start on a new stadium, as compared to Memphis (who has already offered), might hold some sway? -
I was not being 100% serious when I first brought up Howard Howard-ever, I stand by the sentiments concerning overall entertainment value though. I think there are a few "other factors" that come into play here. If we could postpone the Cinci game until the new stadium is here, for instance, I believe we'd get more bang for the buck. I'm not sure what the guarantee is for this game, but I highly doubt that we'll be in the black for this tilt given typical Rubber Bowl attendance numbers. I suppose if we beat Cinci at home, then it would be well worth the money. I just don't think that is very likely at this point in time. If Kelly moves on after this year, then all bets are off. BTW, does anyone recall a Faust team totally controlling a Bearcat squad in what I believe was their last visist here, by a score of something like 35-0!
-
Bring their band, but keep their crappy football team at home. I felt so bad for those Howard kids. 65-0, and it wasn't even that close. Never forget LO putting starter Bobby Hendry back into the game to pound in that last TD. It was almost as classy a move as LO pulling the on-side kick against the other 1-AA team we played...Liberty...when we were up 41-14.Granted, there was really no competition on the field (even at halftime.....I felt JUST as sorry for the "Pride of Ohio" for having to follow THAT performance). But if I recall, the crowd was pretty decent and why not schedule a cupcake every now and then? OK, maybe not every year, but plenty of 1-A schools play weak teams as a warm-up. I don't think it's such a bad idea, particularly for the 1st game of the year.
