  1. Domenik Hixon continues to look good after battling back from last year's injury.Rocky Mountain News
  2. I think my work internet is blocking them! Grrrrrr......I can see the pics that are posted, but the links are blocked. Oh well. I'll check 'em when I get home. Thanks.
  3. That's what I thought zip81, because that was my freshmen year and I was pretty sure it was the 1st home game of the year (usually Acme-Zip). Thanks for the confirmation!BTW, it was a lot of fun. I hope they revive it someday.
  4. I remember being in the card section for a game against Western Illinos in either 1979 or 1980. Most of us were under the influence, so I'm not too sure how well it looked on from the press box side of the bowl
  5. I do remember that as well Zip81. While not one of the participants, I was getting my undergraduate degree in Civil Eng at the time. Just out of curiosity, do you have any idea why I never seem to be able to see the pictures you post on here? :unsure:And yes, Zipsrifle, you are correct on both counts.
  6. Section 6 at the RB amd section 129 for the Patriot Bowl for me (also a first time season ticket holder). I agree that the seats for the Patriot Bowk are pretty ridiculous, and therefore I feel totally justified in my plans to do a little "roaming" when I'm there and try to score a "free upgrade"
  7. It is pretty amazing how two games (MACC and Motor Ciy Bowl) make up for such a large percentage of his overall stats. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see Kris get the ball thrown in his direction quite a bit more this year. It seems like a logical focus, given the inexperience at WR.
  8. My predicitons ATS (for what it's worth):BSU by 6.5 over Miami (O) - Ball St. will cover. They are my pick to win the MAC in 2007.Rutgers by 31 over UB - Takes Bulls and points. RU will go up early and call off the dogsISU by 5.5 over Can't State - Flushes not only cover but could defeat weak Cyclones.Navy by 21 over Temple - Navy's 'bone pummels the weak. Give the points.WVU by 23 over WMU - 2007 MAC media darlings get off to slow start. 'eers will cover.Iowa by 10 over NIU - Iowa covers, but just barely, in a hard fought game.Akron by 7 over Army - Our Zips "escape" Browns stadium with a win but by less than 7.Kansas by 8 over CMU - Jayhawks break it open late and cover.Pitt by 22 over EMU - EMU shocks all by making this a decent game. Take the points.Purdue by 7 over Toledo - Glass Bowl not a welcome place for OOC teams. Take points. MN by 17 over BGSU - Gophers get off to good start under new regime and cover.
  9. I hate to nit-pick, but in gambling lingo wouldn't that be the Zips -7? That spread sounds about right to me. We've only beaten a service academy once, the trhilling, come from behind win over Navy due in large part to a fantastic punt return by Brandon Payne. I recall Frenchie making a big deal out of Roger Staubach being there (it was homecoming).
  10. I agree Jabari has been up and down. When you see the guy being guarded, one on one, by most MAC DB's it's hard to imagine how any of them can match up with his size, strength and agility. Luke was pretty adept at throwing the "short" ball to Jabari, allowing him to gain position and use his size advantage. I wonder how long it might take for whichever of the youthful QB's who wins the staring job, to be able to pick up a nuance like that.
  11. Wow Zipmeister! Although I'm originally from the Pittsburgh area, I am duly impressed. Now THAT is a serious, slice of Akron history you have there. My history with the city begins in 1979 when I first started at UA, so this pre-dates my time here. When I first stumbled upon the Vulcans, I thought the name was clever, in spite of the shadiness of the owners. In fact, I still use "Akron Vulcans" as one of my fantasy team names.
  12. Welcome aboard gf_akronzipfan! A part of me will miss the old bowl, too.
  13. Maybe Diontre was a victom of a "Vulcan mind meld"? Here's a strange coincedence. OK, maybe it's just mindless babble, but there was once an Akron franchise in the old Continental Football League.......it's name?...................................THE AKRON VULCANS!!! Hmmm, did they ever make rubber in southwestern PA? Oh yeah, this whole sports team names/mythology connection opens up many possibilities.
  14. By this, Z.I.P., I assume you mean the Spartans blowing that lead to UH, thus making the Zips the only bowl-eligible team NOT to go bowling in the 2004/5 season?
  15. I think it can depend on the position. Big Ben certainly could have gone to a Big 10 school, but the opportunity to start right away at Miami was enough to get him in the MAC.
  16. I just emailed the stadium web site to everyone I know. I'm amazed at this point, truly amazed. This is going to be one helluva ride! Go Zips!!!!
  17. Well, at least the leakin' had a story on the stadium today.Link
  18. Maybe we should just let the forces of nature have their way with the old Bowl, and perhaps in 2,500 years or so the people of that time will look at the ruins like we look at the Roman Coliseum today
  19. UA definitely owns it, having purchased it from the city back in the late 60's or early 70's for the large sum of ONE dollar I've heard that maybe the airport has an interest? I'm wondering what happens to another Akron landmark, Derby Downs?
  20. Guys, aren't there, like, 6 troughs in the closed end men's room? Isn't that enough to go around? If I was kind of hoping to be buried in one. I already have a plot at Glendale
  21. Of course you are correct, skip-zip. I remembered this early this morning. The interesting thing about Jamie is that he rarely even started in the Zip backfield. I remember him catching passes out of the backfield more than anything else. Chris Rooney certainly got to tote the rock more often. That old FB cross-buck counter play was a thing of beauty!!!
  22. I believe the FB at Philly you might be thinking about is Jeremy Reader. I'm sure the last name is Reader....not as sure about the 1st name. He also played in the XFL for the SF Demons
  23. Nate just needs to decide to play hard on every down. He has shown to me that he can get more "push" than any DL we have ever had here. We'll see if he can ever become more consistent. It'll take a change of heart, for sure, but you never know what motivation a looming NFL draft might provide.
  24. Peyton Manniing says "rub a little dirt in it and get back out on the field!"
