  1. Sometimes it just comes down to whoever is making their shots.
  2. Absolutely not! I, for one, got sick of the negativiity of the in-game threads. Anyone who thought this would be easy must not understand how good of a player Javon McCrea is. It doesn't look good right now, and if we come up short I'm not going to lay into a team that just raised Akron hoops to national attention.
  3. Awe man, you guys are such Debbie Downer's. Don't you realize the field turf is, like, brand new dudes?
  4. Hopefully not, but I think he hurt OU with some calls/nocalls last game as well. The Zips are 6.5 point favorites.
  5. I assume you mean Memphis, UCF, Temple, UConn, ECU, Houston, Cincinnati, USF, SMU, Tulane and Navy (2014). Supposedly, they want a 12th school for 2014 and Tulsa is reportedly the leading candidate. First (perhaps this is only semantics), I don't think they really need conference affiliation. They just need a new conference name. Second, since I'm not privy to either quiet or loud discussion along these lines may I assume the speculation is Akron could possibly get in as the 12th member of the un-named conference ahead of Tulsa?
  6. I think you might be taking these investors too lightly. Didn't you read the part where, everytime they walk around the venerable bowl, new ideas come to them in bunches.
  7. Suburbanite article on the new owner's and their plans.
  8. McCrea alone can create havoc, but guard Tony Watson has been rediculous from 3-point land for the last 5 games (23 out of 38!). Like others have mentioned, I think we'll see the extended zone earlier if necessary, but you would think UB will be better prepared for it than last time. If Zeke can stay on the court, that should prevent McCrea from going off like he did against K.E.N.T. I don't expect an easy game in the least, and I don't think that takes anything away from what the Zips have done. We'll probably need a few others to step up this time. Go Zips!!
  9. Good point about the number of crowds over 5000 this year. It's a shame it didn't start sooner (Princeton, MTSU). In that old CSU-UA game, there were a LOT of people standing around the 4 corners of the running track and in front of the "end zones" at the same level. I think 8000 has been the consisent estimate for that crowd, but who knows how accurate that was.
  10. I hesitate to comment on this because individual awards are the last thing on my mind (and the team's obviously by the way their numbers are distributed) right now. But I will say that Tree and Zeke have a distinct disadvantage here in that, being from the same team, they will split many votes. I don't think either will care if the team goes as far as they are capable.
  11. Another poster on bobcatattack, identifying himself as Jake's former AAU coach, states that Jake and his father really wanted Jake to play at OU (but, as explained earlier, no scholly was available). I say "who cares?".......we have him and he looks to be having no second thoughts. That's the nature of recruiting. KD mentioned it in the post-game, but it's worth repeating. Besides not missing a shot, Jake played his usual solid defense. Several times he denied Cooper the inbounds, and as my hoops-savvy son pointed out the one time Kellogg ended up with the ball instead he dribbled it off his chest and out of bounds. That turnover was a killer, and Jake started it.
  12. All anyone needed to do was look at Tree's eyes, whether he was on the line or elsewhere. Just like the K.E.N.T. game, he was NOT going to let this team lose.
  13. I can't add anything too significant to what's already been said. But I will say this. Let's try to hold off on the 1st half "surrenders" on this board the rest of the season. This team certainly has earned that much from its followers. That has to be one of the great MAC hoops games of all time. But it's over and there is work remaining. Keep up the fight Zips!
  14. What a bonehead play on the inbounds (when they still had a 4 point lead). If they throw it deep down the court the game would be over.
  15. Get it to Abreu or Walsh!!!
  16. X doing their best to prove me wrong Go X!!!!!!!
  17. Despite that 3, the good money had to be on Memphis given X's struggles in the 2nd half (no depth).
  18. Nice!!! Next home: ZipsWin!'s basement???
  19. Thanks for the kind words and class, fargobison. Hopefully Braun comes back strong and you guys make a run. See you in Fargo some day - keep the wood chippers away thank you very much
  20. Zeke busted his butt this off-season, so I have NO trouble jumping through hoops for him on this. Besides, I enjoy using my yahoo email address in these contests: akronzipfan@yahoo.com - jealous, aren't you?
  21. Local story from Bradenton. The good news is they got "The University of Akron" part correct
  22. That's an EXTREMELY exclusive club, no question! The color commentator then was asked about Zeke's draft status. He replied that he thought, because of his combination of size and athletic ability (sound familiar?), Zeke would be a late to mid first round selection. It's only one man's opinion, but it's looking more and more likely that Zeke will be drafted and will probably be a first round pick. But I don't want to focus on that right now. Keep up the super play, big guy! Let's bring this thing home!! Go Zips!!!
  23. My Saturday Beacon Journal had a GREAT picture of Tree (from directly above the basket) working hard for a rebound. It is photo number 3 in this group from Ohio.com. What intensity he brings every minute he's out there! There are some other nice shots in there as well from the same angle (Zeke's breakaway dunk is 14, Tree's follow-up dunk is 6 and 7).
