  1. Michael Rosenberg weighs in
  2. This is a really good sign, IMHO. With TB, it's usually "what you see, is what you get". I have no reason to suspect he's blowing smoke on this. Let the turnaround commence! Thanks GT, and I hope you keep the full-court press on the football program throughout fall camp and into the season
  3. Goodman was moved to WR in the spring. There are only 2 real options at this point in 2012, and apparently they're better than what we've had the last 2 seasons based on TB's evaluation (and that's good enough for me). I could see Franco being the emergency 3rd team QB if he shows something in summer camp, but TB was pretty clear he's not expecting additional competition for the starting job from the newcomers.
  4. Let's not allow the fifth column to bring us down before Bowden Ball has even been able to get out of the blocks. Go Zips!!!
  5. There has been a lot of insightful and sincere discussion here, and I hope kr35 recognizes there has been very little (if any) pointing or laughing on this board regarding this topic. GP1 makes some good points about the NCAA governing body's "raison d'etre". Perhaps I was thinking more with my heart than my head in selecting a 2 year death penalty. I still have concerns about the residual culture in the PSU athletic department, and maybe that's the main reason I wanted to see a true "purge". MDZip's link points out that my concerns should be more universal, and that's something I really can't argue against.
  6. +a billion I'm definitely going, but am still debating the UA package versus putting something together myself. Attended a class in Knoxville around 2002 and told myself if I ever had another shot to see the Zips there (I missed the '89 game) I'd take advantage. I will thoroghly enjoy myself regardless of the outcome.
  7. It certainly wouldn't be a surprise. But uakronkid missing out on the scoop is a HUGE upset
  8. Here is a Leander Schaerlaeckens article on Mattocks.
  9. You're absolutely correct, Lee. Let's also not forget the kids who are molested/assaulted by complete strangers. This whole subject is a much larger problem than most of us would like to think. I most definitely was not losing sight of this when I posed the question on what the NCAA should do. I know some of you have strong libertarian views that fall in line with no NCAA action, but if the NCAA shouldn't act on this travesty what should it act on? I need a little more evidence to convince me that the NCAA is not legally capable of acting on this before I'll accept that as fact.
  10. Well we could, but 'Melo might have something to say about that!
  11. I thought a lot about this over the past few months, and I voted for the 2-year death penalty because I think it’s become abundantly clear that this was a sickening abuse of power, and the power that Paterno built over the years was a direct result of the money machine he created for the university. I think the only efficient way to get the attention of such an organization is to hit them where it hurts. I don’t buy into the “but this will only hurt the current athletes, who had nothing to do with the scandal” argument. Allow them all free transfers (no sitting out) if need be, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that their potential inconvenience is miniscule in the larger picture.
  12. Keener, you need to see if you can get that guy (in your image) to commit. He looks to to ready for the trenches. In here (middle of page), there are some more positive signs about Kish. Hopefully, he won't be swayed by any offers that may come down the line from Maryland or elsewhere.
  13. The Trib Live link K-Roo posted says he was recruited as an offensive tackle. He has a big enough frame and that's where I expect him to play.
  14. So perhaps sometimes when you’re “thinking outside the box”, the box just happens to land right on top of you. I wasn’t aware of his father’s health issues, so maybe he even gets to play for the Zips next season. Even if he sits out, I agree that it’d still be a huge benefit to have him banging with Tree, Harney, and Zeke in practice. I recall him running the floor well and converting a nice tip in when the game in Morgantown was still relatively competitive.
  15. It's ironic to see him in that picture splitting Egner and Harney for the ball. Let's hope his injuries and mistakes are behind him. I think all this hardship waiver does is effectively wipe out last year, leaving him with 4 years left of eligibility. I don't see how he gets away without sitting out the usual 1 year for a D-1 transfer.
  16. Or defender's back, but the point is still taken (the Keeper looks to have whiffed on the one handed punch!)
  17. Hmmm, it's interesting that WV Illustrated wrote this preseason article just 2 weeks ago and it mentions Pat.
  18. Freeh Report
  19. A couple of Pickerington ballplayers to play for UA
  20. I'm speaking in generalities, but I have long felt that UA's College of Engineering does a much better job of preparing engineering grads for the work place than a more "prestigious" school like Case. We can thank the long entrenched co-op program for much of this. Often (not always) grads from places like Case, MIT, Carnegie Mellon etc have a strong sense of entitlement and are more suited to pure research. I'm not at all surprised by your recent experiences.
  21. With all due respect, this link says plenty about how serious MAMA ZEKE is about Zeke's potential NBA career. I'm not sure how much, if any, it says about Zeke's true desires and intentions. I'm just taking a stab here Dave, but my guess is you don't have any children
  22. That’s an interesting article. Thanks for posting. I guess it means that despite increasing concerns over player safely, the appetite for college football still remains rather healthy even at the lower levels. The newest programs, while concentrated in the south, are also spread around the country somewhat. One significant thing to me is the attendance figures for some of the newer programs. UTSA, a program who many here scoffed at when they got the call to join C-USA, averaged over 35,000 fans last year! It’s pretty hard to argue against adding a school with that kind of support, IMHO.
  23. The information is a little sparse. But let's look at the bright side. He grew 2" On the other hand, he dropped 5 lbs I saw an article covering the Buchtel-Big Red game last year, and he made some big plays in that game. It sure seems like he might be one of those guys who looks MUCH better on the field than in front of a stop watch. His forty time is only 4.94 per ESPN.
  24. Nice! The Impact have been in a rough stretch. It's great to see Zarek's 1st ever MLS goal come at a crucial time like this. Congrats, Zarek!
