Athletic Director Status ---- Tom Wistrcill
CincyZip replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Thanks Dr. Z! Something I think Wistricill can improve upon is his relationship with students. I went to just about every home game there was when I was a student but only met him once-- and that was at subway on Exchange. If I ever make it to the point where I could donate to athletics and he was to "court" me, or whatever the proper term is, I would seriously feel it was strictly money related and not because I am appreciated. -
Hey guys, his name is Eric Stoller and his office phone number is 330-972-8459. I'm sure if you give him a call he'll be happy to explain what his vision is and what he has done since taking the helm. I don't think it is fair to just assume he is doing nothing. I remember the season Swanson hit his stride. The Zips won 19 straight, which I got to believe was a major reason for his success. Not taking anything away from Swanson, I still have all the stuff from that season lol.

Man, y'all have been having the same conversation for at least the last five years. I'd think people would get bored.

I missed that report. I was hearing it was going to be in the 20 million range but didn't have enough to print. $25 mil wow. I heard from them in like May that they wanted the Dome built within six months. That's about halfway now. I may give them a call tomorrow and see how everything is going.

This is a great post.

I never thought that they were actually going to put a Dome on the Bowl. However, it has been nine months and they have the all clear from the the airport. They are closer now than they have been. I think that would be a several years away. I did believe that they were going to be able to play high school football games in the Bowl again. They likely will. I kind of brought into the USFL too, but the felonies quickly diminished any realistic hope. They want to find a pro football league still, according to the Beacon, but I don't think it will happen. At least not anytime soon. I believe that the Rubber Bowl will be turned into an entertainment venue. They may or may not reach their goal of July 4th.

Small Update Obviously most of you heard that the USFL had gone through some trouble over the summer. Team 1 has all but abandoned their dream of putting a team of that league in the Rubber Bowl. They have instead decided that they are going to focus on high school football, concerts, MMA, boxing and putting some sort of circus inside the stadium. They are currently working on demolishing most of the Bowl to make it just concrete. MOST IMPORTANTLY--Dome they are going to put a dome on the Rubber Bowl. The airport has cleared it and the design is almost finished. The airport gave them restrictions that the group must meet and they have every intention of meeting those.

If I remember correctly, Nick Harney's play at point guard saved the Zips last season. There were other players that attempted, but Harney was fantastic in that role. With Q coming back, and Melo progressing, I think the Zips will be great at point.

Districtballer, you are one of the most classiest posters this board has.

Actually, there is a picture on website (and story in the magazine of them). It is the room with shattered glass everywhere. The press box has two stories. I was told that the bottom floor was a suite. I assumed that it was the president's suite or something. Upstairs is clearly for press and game day officials. Then they also had a wooden structure that we were afraid to get on because it looked very dangerous that was once press row also. If I understood correctly, they want to put some on the opposite side of where the press box is. In a perfect world, there would be so much demand that they would build suites literally around the place side-by-side.

Hey! I am happy that everyone found my piece, before I did.....Anyway. It was supposed to run in Akron Life, but things got a little rough there, no matter! I understand everyone's criticisms and support for the bowl. I did not want to make it sound like it was going to be an easy job. I continued to feel during the interview that these guys had a lot of money behind them which always makes things a little easier. I am interested in what you guys think of the article itself. I am still working hard to become a better writer/journalist, did I leave you guys wondering anything that I should have touched on more? Thanks guys, Parker

We would like to get an event together and welcome back the team tonight! All are welcome and we would love to have you out at 1:00 AM.

I'm more of a UC guy when it comes to Cincy Colleges, but tonight I am a Musky!

Here it is. https://www.facebook.com/events/113200565529751/ I warn you that these events do not always pull in the largest 'joiners'. 41 at this point is pretty large believe it or not (it's been up for less then 24 hours). That show me that there is a lot of interest in the game from students. I invite you all to join and/or invite your friends.

I think comparing Pat Forsythe to Zeke Marshall is setting the dude up to fail. He is not Zeke, and at no fault of his own. He should have an above average career and anything more is gravy.

It did not sit well with me, so I gave them a call and you are right. They are going to sell the naming rights, however they do want to keep something "Rubber Bowl" in the name.
-
BREAKING They do plan on selling beer.
-
Using specifics, what do you think is wrong with the Rubber Bowl now?
-
They better be making some money. The USFL has announced that they have agreed with a real estate development company and will begin building five new stadiums for different leagues. Wow. http://www.theusfl.net/press-02_11_13.php

I am writing a story for Akron Life Magazine on the new owners of the Rubber Bowl. I walked the stadium with them yesterday. There is a lot more, I'll post the story here when it is up.
-
Here's other news... They will be adding bathrooms!
-
I invite you all to check out their website. It is just a single page as of now, but it is worth the three second look. TheAkronFire.net

Does anyone here actually think that Akron is the 21st best team in the country? Just curious.

My article is coming and should be published in Akron Life Magazine or online in the very near future, but I thought I share a little bit here for you guys. (Zach Read my twitter --ParkerPerry_ -The new owners of the Rubber do want to put a dome on the place, however that will happen (if it does) in the far future. -They want to keep the name "Rubber Bowl", however with copyright laws and rules it is going to be tough. I felt they really do want to keep the name though -The USFL is looking to make a major announcement "Monday", which I am assuming means tomorrow. I don't know what it is about, however I figure it has something to do with actually starting the league. It may even invite players to sign up for tryouts. I think something that is important to remember about about the USFL is that it was a very successful league before Trump got a hold of it. When it was played in the spring people loved it. But when greed took over and they tried to compete against the NFL, things got rough and eventually killed them. It can work, if they have communities support of course.

Though the things you list are true, he has also displayed the ability to poke the ball away from more athletic players that beat him around corners.
