Stellar article by Withers, I had to give him a follow on twitter for it! @TwithersAP Although all the Cleveland tweets may get a little much . The story made its way to NBCSports.com as well, and several other locations (since it's AP). There is also a little story on the Zips on FoxNews.com tonight. http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2013/02/07/b...s-on-deep-ncaa/

I don't think it is too odd. Besides Western Michigan, the Zips have beaten teams they are better than and lost to teams that are not.

It really was a fantastic game. I was worried that the cheaters were going to end up winning. The next two games are very important for the team. The Zips take on Miami Saturday after the men, and will play for first place in the MAC East conference. After that game, the following week, they will play Ball State--currently in first place in the West, but could only be a game above UA after they lose (hopefully) to Toledo. They will play that game in Akron. I would love to have Akron in both the men's and women's championship game in Cleveland before I graduate. I think that would be a swell time as they both would play on the same day for titles.

https://twitter.com/ZipsMBB/status/299553613594906624 According to Zips Men's Basketball on twitter, local media are out and about today. Tree is having a feature on him while Dambrot is on the radio currently on 92.3 the Fan. This media chaos all comes with the territory of being successful, but the team needs to be focused on the Miami game more than anything. We are going to see if they can handle success or if they are not there yet Saturday.

yeah, but they lost so now it is cursed for the century. I don't want Akron to have anything close to this! #AverageAkronFanThinking

I usually yell things at them like "You're stupid", "Your mom does not love you" "We don't want you down here" "Go Away" You know?

I find this very interesting. Especially since the AK-Rowdies are the largest student organization on campus. So I am assuming we are talking about the core group of ROWDIES, those who I consider to be very much one of. I have heard a lot of the reputation of the AK-ROWDIES. Although, uncool and/or misfit is a new one . I've heard us being jerks, punks, assholes, clique-ish, etc, but never uncool. I think we party just as much as the other guys, our female membership is up, although I'm sure there are more than a few weirdos in the group. Anyway, that perception should fall away after students see the stud ginger passing out wristbands and encouraging students to sit down low and be loud--wait, oh no! I think my main beef with everyone's beef is that people are staying away from games/student section because of the ROWDIES. As Headaviator dude said, we just broke an attendance record. Also, since that Ginger has passed out bands, we have filled the student section down low virtually every time since the last part of last year (Winter break not included for obvious reasons). If someone was going to have a beef, then it should be GameChangr44's. The non-core Rowdies are not being loud. That is the fault of them and the ROWDIES, and it needs to be addressed. Head Aviator is heading upstairs, and I am going to make a more effort to get those students involved down stairs. I maybe completely off base here, but I feel that the ROWDIES are moving in the right direction when it comes to student involvement. It has been a number one issue this year. As far as I am concerned, the student section will continue to be filled throughout the year. And improvements will continue throughout the season. I do want to thank everyone for their opinions and suggestions. I'll be honest that I was frustrated early on while reading this, but I realize that you guys only want the best for the university and student support. As do I. Peace!

Oh, it was the Dambrot era, I wonder how much is the record.

Most students ever (not including against Can't). Boom

It starts and ends with recruiting. The team blasted George Mason, who started the night 4-2, tonight in Virginia. They are now 7-1!!! This team is the real deal.

It's been a very interesting year in regards to student attendance. Yesterday, Athletics sponsored a rock-paper-scissors contest that the winner would receive 500 dollars to go to text books. 64 people where selected to compete...three of them showed up. Even if you offer students 500 dollars, they don't show up. There were 275 students at the game yesterday (which is about half the average of last season). However, with the lack of students, the ROWDIES where still able to give away 90 floor seats to them out of the 100 possible. (which is a pretty high ratio, because again students at Akron a very strange). I also feel that the arena was bouncing yesterday, MTSU agreed on twitter, and I felt the participating students played a big part in this. Something tells me as the year goes on, especially when we get to second semester and the MAC schedule, things will get better. But I agree it is crazy that they don't want to support the team now.

This is a more likely scenario, and the truth I hope. I don't really understand how someone would be able to get inside the workings and cause them to sit out a game. At the same time however, I wonder what happened to create this problem. And how was it not fixed in time for them to make the trip?

The West

I hope, and think, we will be OK. But like I said, this goes way beyond basketball. It is now about what is right and what is wrong, justice and injustice.
-
I don't understand. If they are victims, shouldn't someone be protecting them instead of hiding the identity of their 'predators'? This has now gone beyond basketball. It is not fair for these guys, who have worked so hard to get to the place they are now, for someone to try to sabotage their career. I am very proud for what they have accomplished so far and am very upset that anyone would try to knock them off their pedestal. Hard work should be rewarded.

^^^ I thought that was going to be it... I am surprised that our friends in Carolina figured out our dirty secret about Walsh. How we made up the MAC 4th team last season to intimidate future opponents. I guess now they will leave Walsh open, particularly behind the three point line. Dang it,

I remember during the basketball banquet in May where Dambrot joked with Nick Harney about the NCAA adding more allowed practice time for this season. Dambrot laughed knowing that Harney would take the news hard. The type of freshman we have now are the type of guys you build your program around. Harney, on the other hand, is the type of player that puts you over the top.

I feel awful for the girls. Loosing seven straight matches by one point has to be devastating. However, even with the early failure the team is not out of the chase for the MAC Tournament yet. If they can pull out the next three games they would be all but in. If they pull off two of the three, they would need help, but they could still make it.

I am not sure what I just witnessed. Everything was going so good, and all of a sudden imploded. This has become beyond frustrating. I'm not sure I know the word to describe my anger/frustration.

"Lets go Bird Hunting".

But to the Roo-Walk (coined and created by Terry Bowden himself) yesterday, before the walk Dalton Williams went over to students and shook their hands/gave them high fives. The guy gets it.

So you expect the team to make its way around the stadium to the field house? The buses, from the hotel, let off on there. It always have and always will.

Lets use Wrong Way Andre, it rhymes better.
