  1. I hate Bleacher Report. Everything there is sort of tongue-in-cheek (not necessarily this one), and very poorly researched. All rivalry aside, I'm not sure how you could leave K-ent off that list. They've been more miserable than us the last few decades. Tell me about. Any list like this that does not include Can't State can only be viewed as per crap!
  2. I get that Captain, but I'm still allowed to not like it!
  3. Fuel for the fire - go get'em girls. Bring home the MAC East Championship!
  4. That's one I don't like. I don't want to lose recruits to other MAC Schools.
  5. No way you can play defensive back at Akron and make it to the NFL. Signed Dwight Smith I agree with Dwight. Signed Reggie Corner Both you guys are crazy. Signed Victor Green And boom goes the dynamite Signed Ball State Kid
  6. To me Ianello seems focused and determined, someone with a clear plan. JD was a great guy, but I think he struggled in developing a team vision. Ianello hasn't.
  7. Hence why teams should schedule beatable BCS teams, not $ games. I had hoped that my use of the word FORMIDABLE would get noticed. I wouldn't expect a MAC-level school to make progress in the "others receiving votes" category, or have any chance of reaching the top-25, if they do not beat a significant opponent. It all depends how you are defining the word "beatable", but if it means possibly beating a bottom-feeder Big 11 school, do you think that would get all that much attention on the national stage? I don't. Ball State was in the top 25 in 2008, and their best wins came against Indiana and Navy. CMU was in the top 25 a couple of years without beating a single BCS opponent. You just need a good record and then build a lot of hype to get voters to notice. It's not so much who you beat, it's how long you stay unbeaten, scheduling bottom feeders and winning only hurts when you are in title contention and that is not going to happen for a MAC school anytime soon. I was just going to comment on ZachTheZip's post when I saw yours pop up as well. I think all of those situations that ZTZ mentions were undefeated teams. And I've said many times on this board that an undefeated team, in either basketball or football, would almost surely be ranked by season's end. But, as we see every year, it's such an improbable task to play perfectly and without any letdowns throughout an entire 12 game schedule, and into the bowl season. Out of the 120 D-1A teams, we maybe have one team each year that does this? Or, sometimes NONE. I think the much more likely scenario to get ranked for the duration of the season is to have a great record, and also have a marquis win or two. And I believe marquee wins for MAC schools are wins over anybody in the Big 6 no matter their notoriety. So schedule the Syracuse's, Indiana's, Iowa State's, NC State's, whoever we can foresee as a competitive game and a chance to win and remain in position to be ranked nationally at season's end. That is when people will start to take notice and you will see the perception of the MAC begin to strengthen.

  10. I don't think Staten is going to make it. But we do have a good stable of young RBs to take over after Allen graduates. I like Alex Allen, but you are assuming that he stays healthy for the entire season. We need solid running backs now! Additionally, I was in the FB office the other day and Broderick Alexander has a boot on his leg and not the kind you can run in.
  11. Not to divert the thread, but I thought it was funny that I received an invite to a University-sponsored event a few weeks ago. The University-sent email referred to itself as "Akron U." I would think only UA (or AU apparently) athletic marketing could pull off stupidity like that. The mere thought of this makes me sick. How can we get the public to identify with us if we don't even know who we are?
  12. I sure do appreciate you mixing in some good news with another bad prediction about our prospects this season. I really hope that ND game happens. It will be great for the future of our program. Rob ianello said on 850 WKNR friday we play at Tennessee in 2012 Yes, but will Rob be here to witness this?
  13. Die thread, please die!
  14. I sent an email to the contact person on the team shop page on 7/8 asking about replica football jerseys and still have not received a response. This is now the third email I have sent since last year to all different people and have yet to receive a response. This University is a joke when it comes to merchandise and the promotion of its teams. I think last year was the first time I had seen a billboard promoting the team and the new stadium, yet every year I see Can't State billboards all over Akron and Summit County. They are so reactive to situations i.e. soccer team success and are never proactive i.e. we have a new stadium, hey lets sell jerseys. I have followed the Zips to many away games and have seen other schools with readily available jerseys and team gear at the games. Luckily I found a website years ago AthleteTech.com that used to sell replicas jerseys for the Zips and i ws able to get an away #5 but now those jerseys are out of date since last year. Every year this school does something that just makes me lose more faith. They have a great opportunity to grow the program and just seem content to do nothing about it. So are you looking for a specific jersey or not?
  15. Something along the lines of this http://ohiostate.teamfanshop.com/COLLEGE_O...uckeyes_Jerseys I can dream can't I? I want a Mondo Jersey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, I am guessing Mondo is Almondo Sewell. Is that correct?
  16. Do we know what number he is going to be?
  17. What type of items are you looking for?
  18. The only new job is #3. The other two are positions recently left by Kevin Klotz and Mike Cawood.
  19. Actually Mack had nothing to do with it. Mike Waddell hired Caleb.
  20. I like who he is targeting. In the end, all he needs to do is out recruit the other MAC schools. If he can do that we will be on the right track in building a successful program.
  21. I'm a little surprised by that...the group there now is pretty darn good. did you reach out recently?
  22. I think it is a crying shame that an assistant basketball coach has to put this together. It makes us look small time. Other schools have a clinic for ladies as well. It isn't on their press page, but I have gotten invitations the past three years for their golf outing as well. Like I said, it isn't either/or. They should be doing things like this. Does anyone think for one second that an assistant coach at even a little school like Wake Forest has to organize golf outings? It's insane. There are plenty of people in the Athletic Department to do this. Gary Bogue used to do it and it was a great event when he did. He wasn't a coach, just a guy working in Athletics. He could have easily done both because he was organized. I could go on about what a poor job UofA does with alumni relations. Miami has an alumni events 2-3 per year in the Charlotte area...my wife makes me go. There is a young woman who organizes them and she lives locally. Miami gives her mailing lists/e-mail lists and give away items. She does the rest. She even has the phone numbers of Carolina Panthers who went to Miami and they show up. It isn't hard to send an e-mail, reserve a room at a local bar and have an outing with 40 people. I know people who graduated from UofA who would love to have socials, but there is no way of organizing them. I brought this up to someone at UofA one time and they looked at me like I was speaking another language. I would do it myself with a little support. It is not the job of coaches to organize golf outings. That is small time if they do. The University needs to take charge and people in the bloated Athletic Department's staff need to put this together. Have you reached out to the alumni office? I seriously doubt they'd turn down someone willing to help get alumni re-connected with their alma mater.
  23. Believe what you want. RF DID make a mistake and WAS some place he should not have been during a time when coaches are NOT allowed to recruit. I liked every encounter I ever had with RF but the fact of the matter is that he did screw up and hopefully he learned from his mistakes and gets another opportunity to follow his dreams. OK, where was he and why was it a violation? What I know is from a very, very reliable source, but I will not post anything that may be detrimental to someone's future. Especially since only a select few (less than 5) really truly know what happened during the incident in question. I just don't want the blame to fall on an AD that was put in a tough situation and had to make a tough call.
  24. The university did not cancel the outing nor did the department of athletics. The football office decided not to do it this year for reasons unknown. A date was set and everything.
