The Student Section is Too Limited
RootforRoo44 replied to zipseuph's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
There are plenty more without Rowdies shirts each game at our games, that doesn't prove anything.Fact is, who knows if you're really telling the truth but im guessing if you are you probably complained at Pitt as well. Just stop being such a negative nancy, wear your shirt, and have fun. Being a big downer like your being only causes more problems, so if you dont want to be in the Rowdies and dont want to sit down low than fine, it's your choice.Fact is, I'm not complaining. Fact is, I sit down there every game when my friends don't go with me (none of them want to sit there anymore). Fact is, I'll be sitting down there tonight. I'm not being a downer, I just want to see more students at the games, and I want to see the bottom sections full. I'm trying to give some suggestions. You're pretty much saying it's my way or the highway, and fact is, apparently more students want to take the highway.also, if you would read my posts, I'm cool with the way it is now, it isn't stopping me from ever attending games. It's stopping the other, not so "rowdie" students. hopefully something can be done to get them into the Zips! Go Zips!It IS your way or the highway....rules are rules and you either follow them or you dont sit down there. If you want to have a say and make your own rules you can go over to Can't where they make sure everyone is happy and no one is sad. -
Just go to the game. There is always someone with an extra hanging out front. You really think there's a chance? I haven't gone in the front entrance in a few years as students have to go in the north west door so i dont ever see if scalpers or anything are out there.

If he would have bought season tickets, he wouldn't have this problem. He's a student but yeah i agree.
-
Probably not much of a chance but i have a buddy that really needs a ticket. Anyone have an extra or two? Doesn't matter where at, he just wants in. He was sick all week, couldnt get up to campus to get his ticket; procrastinated and didnt give someone his ID to get one for him.Let me know on

Terry Pluto Says Akron vs. K.e.n.t. is Big
RootforRoo44 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
By journalists maybe. Pluto is alright but nothing even close to great. BTW, if im not mistaken Terry Pluto graduated from Cleveland State so how does a Ohio University person like yourself even consider Terry Pluto as so great? I mean dont you have plenty of other better journalists from Scripps? Personally, I can think of tons better than Terry Pluto. -

It appears to me you get your wish generally .. there are less people down there.I know I was at a hoops crazed school for undergrad, and there was a LOTTERY for student season tickets, and a single game lottery also .. but there were NEVER any of these goofy rules about shirts, joining, being a member .. etc. to get the prime location. You got in line before the games .. sometimes way early .. and it was first come first serve. I was on national TV a few times just because I didn't have any afternoon classes that day and was able to line squat early. Big Monday's ruled when Donyell was around.UConn was a pretty cliqueless place generally .. not many greeks to speak of at all (seen PCU? that's pretty much about UConn). I know it's the Big East .. whatever .. it was the thing to do, the place to be, and demand far outstripped supply for seats .. including the crappy games all the way in downtown Hartford. It's apparent from the outside that this attitude that you need to be a certain way to deserve to sit in certain seats is hurting the Rowdies. Seems like the momentum of the Rowdies at hoops games is suffering a bit these days. There's a need to freshen it up I guess.Go Zips! That would be fine to do because there would only be the Rowdies there anyways. In all my years i have seen (5th year senior here ) maybe 5 students that are not rowdies sit down on the floor and even pretend to care about the game. Usually you get the same type down there that just sits half the game or stands and doesnt join in on anything, let alone even clap. I say do the first come first serve and it wont be any different. -

I honestly dont think you read entire posts by people. He said they wear the shirt to get in those seats and YES the Oakland Zoo at Pitt does require you to have the shirt. I have been there myself multiple times. Down at Florida State they required students to wear the shirt to stand in the courtside bleachers that run 3-4 deep along the length of the floor, i have family that live there and family that go there and have been to multiple games and stood in that spot (my cousin lent me a shirt). Many if not most schools that have a special seating area for student groups require the shirt to be worn...that is a fact. -

Yeah right, 400 students. The ones that sit down low aren't just going to the game to sit on their hands. They actually are being loud and a real student section. The rules are the rules, if you dont want to bring a blue shirt then sit up top. You're not getting what I'm saying. I'm sitting down low, but unfortunately there aren't enough people willing to put up with those "rules" to ever fill the bottom sections.P.s. that attitude is a pretty big reason no one wants to sit with you guys. I'm just giving some suggestions.Go zips!well id rather have less people down there then more people that just stand/sit there and dont act like student fans. I agree with you about the ushers no doubt but if you go ask for a wrist band you WILL get it if there is room down there. I take friends every game and get wristbands for down there. Eventually people will get on board, it just takes more winning. NEOhio sports fans are the worst in the country, they front run for anything they can but most of them dont actually care about the loyalty to the team. -

Reminder for You and the Kids

I will be selling these at the JAR. Zips fans will need them if they are sitting anywhere near a K.e.n.t. fan:I actually have 3 pairs of those i got from an army surplus store. We wore them in highschool when we played barberton in a playoff game in basketball when they had a meningitis scare haha. -
Heaven forbid the student union allows liquor inside. Too must risk. There were also talks of putting a tanning salon in there but too much risk for that too. The Planet Underground Lounge is now open starting at 5pm each night. I encourage everyone to check it out.Too much risk? Are you being sarcastic?...im confused. The sad part is that I am not being sarcastic.Back in my day <insert old man voice> they had beer in the Student Center. No one rioted. No one died. We drank beer, ate pizza and then went on with our day/night.Exactly, beer isn't this "root of all evil" like a few people seem to think. The U could make some money off of it as well. It's a win win.

Do you not have one? Also did you not read the entire message? It states that you have to just show that you have one so you can get on the floor. Then you put on a white shirt when you get down there. -

I play with this kid at the rec center every day that's in my sociology class, and i asked him if he's going to the game tommorow, and he said "there's a game tommorow? for what?" That proves it right there...do i need to say more about the relationship between marketing department and the students?Yep, people can blame the Rowdies all they want for things but if it weren't for the Rowdies who knows if any students would come but the few diehards.Fact is, Akron SUCKS at marketing to their students and whoever is supposed to be doing it should be fired. -

I think you mean the south side. The North side is like 10 rowdies, 30 regular students, and a few recruits usually. Not to mention a couple NBA scouts on occasion. There were a few last home game for real. I asked the guy. Detroit Pistons he said. Anyways, if you are uncomfortable over there come sit with us on the North side. We are where the party's at anyways -

If there is room in those sections ANY student can get a wristband. It's been stated very clearly now. You're right though the ushers at the JAR are more strict and watchful than the ushers for the box seats at yankee stadium. -
About as Big-time as It Gets
RootforRoo44 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
According to the media guide the official attendance for the December 9, 1986 game was 8,168.The actual attendance was in excess of 10,000.It was widely reported (including in the ABJ) that between 1,500 to 2,500 people were refusedadmittance including many souls holding reserved seating tickets.I was there. The aisle were full of people. The tier was jammed. The place was a nut house. The Zips won in overtime 73-69. "Mouse" McFadden fouled out sealing CSU's doom. Even this huge crowd does not come close to the highest home game attendance for Akron. Thathonor goes to the 15,000+ game against third ranked Pitt played at the Richfield Coliseum on December 21, 1987. The Zips lost 63-67. Best big time atmosphere ever for an Akron game.I attended that game as well. Still, I'll take the win over Cleveland State as the best game.I would love to see a copy/scan of this article. I'm very interested if anyone can find it. -

I would keep printing and selling tickets until I ran out of ink!if they could stuff 8000+ in for that CSU game in the 80's they can fit 7000 in now.I would say we can fit 6,000 in there now. The blue chairs take up a lot of space that used to be just bleachers.6,200 then. FIND A WAY! -
He is actually 7th on the team in criminal offenses too. Amazing isn't it?

Let me make this absolutely clear. I am not saying I wouldn't accept an NIT bid. Let me repeat that so that it gets through to those of you who don't seem to get this. I AM NOT SAYING THAT I WOULDN'T ACCEPT AN NIT BID. All I am saying is that I don't hold the NIT in the high regards that apparently everyone else on this board does. It isn't a tournament that excites me, and I don't think I would be the only one. It also isn't a tournament that does that much to advance this program. You can now go back to twisting my words around to make them fit whatever you want to hear. You are the only one. The NIT means alot. Considering we are a one bid conference, it should be still seen as an accomplishment to make the NIT. Let's be real here, winning 3 straight games is going to be tough. We all saw what happened 2 out of the last 3 years, it's not easy.

It's not that they cheat for one team as much as they seem to have personal vendettas against certain players. No ref has a vendetta against anybody.Believe what you want....ive heard it from a few players mouths myself.
