Yes, yes it is. But there is a significant amount of people, that you are currently defending, that do this far more frequently than I do. You and several other members, always seem to get mad at me when I'm responding to it. I get hypocritically called out for it on this forum all the time and it's BS. People will criticize me, but not criticize the people who actually start making things political. Off-the-cusp comments with political undertones are made ALL THE TIME here, not by me. But because I have a differing opinion than other people, I get called out for it. It's kinda a joke. Honestly it's driven me from this site. This was the first time I've visited in weeks, and seriously had a question about something I found weird, and people immediately get their underwear in a bunch. Most of the people I know who were driven from this site were driven away because of the over-dominance of one political-ideology that would keep inserting itself over-and-over again on this forum. (spoiler alert, it wasn't mine!). Several of those members to whom I refer, received a temporary ban for their actions, and demeanor. I'd encourage you to go back and look at the comments. My first one, was not hyperbolic...or inflamatory...just a question.

Than there's no need to bring up a team prayer, like you said, if it's about "just sports". I was legitimately curious as to was it a team sanctioned "team prayer" or not, because that is a curious thing about a public school. It was other people who got their underwear in a bunch, and later called be a jackass for saying something that sarcastic but is objectively and factually accurate. Y'all need to stop getting so triggered.

On the contrary, Balsy was simply telling accurate information/leveling the playing field. It's not my fault others are such easily triggered snowflakes that can't handle not having the privilege of being able to say whatever they want without a response. Nothing I said was inappropriate, imposing by beliefs (either religious or political). I simply pointed out facts.

It's not semantics at all. Passover is also based on the spring equinox: The Jewish calendar is a Lunar Calendar...which is why the date shifts every year for passover, because it's based on the spring equinox. I wonder why the Jewish Calendar is a Lunar-based one... Human celebrations on the Spring-equinox predate christianity and Judaism; Horus (the Egyptian god) was born on December 25th, died and was later resurrected on the Spring-equinox. As was Dionysus (roman god)...as was Inaan (sumerian goddes) as was Mithra (a mysterious religion that shares a lot of similarities to the early christians at the same time). It's pretty evident a lot of religions borrowed wholesale traditions and customs from each other; babylonian captivity of the Jews is such an even in Jewish writings when they began to incorporate Babylonian ideals into their own teachings/writings. It's not surprising that northern hemisphere cultures would, almost unanimously, make the spring-equinox of significance both culturally and religiously; because the spring equinox is when the sun is over the equator which is important for agrarian societies.

Seeing as both of you either didn't take basic Western Civ at Akron, or pay attention...here ya go: From a biased source Billy Graham From Trumpet Ministries (another Biased source) (quoted below)

Indeed. Happy Zombie-jesus-pagan-spring-fertility-equinox-celebration day!

Apparently you can't read; the other response was a response to someone else; therefore yes in fact I was just curious. Don't project the triggered nature of other members on to me. Thanks.

Well now, that you bring it up; the original pledge of allegiance didn't have "God" in it...which is why it's grammatically incorrect to this day...it read "one nation indivisible". The line "under god" was later added in the 1950's. Ironically, the pledge of allegiance was written by christian socialists, as a means for indoctrination of patriotism.

Yes, and there was never a team prayer. (separation between church-and-state and all) Because one might be pressured into participating. That's mainly why I asked. Because which "god" are you praying to? Allah? Oden? Ninutra? The Great Ju-Ju up the mountain? IDK, this is where I disagree with you, it is preachy.
-
Isn't that a no-no? I suppose it is optional to participate...

You're cool.

Wilson officially lost the Bid for UCF on March 9th. March 22nd he Steps down. As he states in his letter: His son was battling pediatric cancer his entire tenure at Akron. Which for anyone would difficult. Yet, this didn't impact his decision to apply for the UCF position, which would be arguably as much if not more demanding of a position. So please spare me the pandering. He said it himself in his letter applying to UCF was a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity. So guess once you lose-out on a "once-in-a-life-time" opportunity, there's not much else to do right? So UCF was good enough to continue working hard hours/family balance, but Akron isn't. See where I'm going with this? What you did there sir, in bringing up that his son's cancer, is both cherry-picking and pandering to your own narrative. If you are stepping down because you want to spend more time with your family, considering the difficulties your family has been through, that's fine. That doesn't excuse him from criticism, nor does it excuse him from the rest of us criticizing his short-lived tenure as less than the rose-colored glass image. And yes I do understand bond ratings as they relate to business success, and the indication of a tanking business vs thriving business. I don't, however, give Wilson any credit for this, and I don't believe that it is really any indication of how much he "improved" the university. Because if that's the only thing he did, UA isn't in much better shape than it was. All you had to be was not-scarborough to do that is what I'm arguing, so please stop being all high and mighty.

(1) No, assertions are also not "fake news"....they are assertions. "Fake News" is incorrectly used by the president, as it is most people; it is an actual thing. Please learn what Fake News actually is. (2) No. I'm ripping people for acting like he's a savior because he did what any milk-toast in the same position would do. And no it wouldn't be like me ripping Dambrot like when he started here...what Dambrot lasted like 15 years? A more apt analogy would be like me ripping Lane Kiffin over his tenure at Tennessee. In this analogy; several members of this board (including yourself) would be defending Lane Kiffin as the savior of Tennessee Football. (3) People loved his interactions. Sure he was more likable than the last guy, unfortunately that's not saying much. That means something when you're here. It means nothing when you're no longer here. I liked him. Until I saw he was ready to jump ship after two years...and quit after not being able to jump ship.

No I picked that out because I thought your reasoning that he increased donations was preposterous. You've now gone to the lender ratings to which I say...who cares!? Was the bond rating awful under Proenza, got worse with Scarborough, and then got better than both under Wilson? Because if that's not the situtation (being better than Proenza's entire tenure) than it's milk-toast (anyone could improved over Scarborough...literally anyone). Even if that is true...any of the gains made in a bond rating are counteracted by the fact that your University has had 2 presidents in 4 years. That's not the mark of healthy institution. Which is why I say who cares!? (about the bond rating). The guy who was willing to take UCF to glory, but when he didn't get the job...immediately steps down. What does that say about what he thinks of our Alma Mater? I don't care what milk-toast response he gives; it's a slap in the face, and IS NOT GOOD for the University of Akron, no matter how you try to pander it.

Your agenda is apparent in the words you use, how you construct you communications and posts. Gee, just like how you deduced Dre's agenda based on his posts in the other threads!
-
And here's how much I care about Bill Connelley's "prediction" (though it is always nice to read about Akron Football): 2017 "predictions": Balsy's 2017 Prediction: 7-5, trip to Detroit. Balsy's 2018 Prediction: 8-4. See you in Detroit (again). Go Zips.

This is a joke right? Like you make this comment in jest right? Because I refuse to believe you're that overly simplistic. What has he really done for people to go like "oh he wasn't that bad!?". Has UA really changed that much for the better? I mean c'mon man. Amen brother, I'm regretting coming to look at this thread after staying away for awhile. Some people are just flat out delusional. I know this is nit-picky, and El Presidente likes to throw around "fake news" but please don't. Fake News does not = someone's opinion. Fake News is wholesale making up of something to present it as news for the purpose of deceiving people. Nothing on this thread is "fake news". He improved our financial situation by increasing donations? What? Didn't we LOSE donations under the last University President? So basically he regained the ones we lost right? The guy isn't a savior...he's was a "better-than-the-last-guy" milk toast. You coulda inserted anyone into that position and increased donations because he/she wasn't Scarborough. You're criticizing Dre for having an agenda, when it's pretty clear you have one as well.

I haven't been visiting the forum lately, but damn is this just about the best post in the thread. Folks I've said it a million times; it's a culture of resume building. People take a job to put it on their resume in order to apply for something in the future. Akron is a stepping stone, not a final destination. They leave before they face the repercussions of their decisions/initiatives, and their not held accountable by anyone else because they are hired for what was on their resume as opposed to if what they did actually worked or not.

This guy on youtube has a pretty cool channel where he breaks down things relating to businesses. I find it at least entertaining to listen to when I'm doing work around my apartment. Here's one on ESPN. I thought I'd post it here because this conversation was on the ESPN layoffs for awhile, but I think it also can expand to the larger discussion on the over-saturation of sports and it's affect on schools like ours.
-
Exactly. This isn't 1973. No-one cares about watching a two-hour "selection show". We're already over saturated with this crap.
-
Nope.
-
We will not be going 1-3.
-
Is anyone surprised? Truly...anyone? Let's all say it together now..."OF COURSE!"
-
I'm very late to this conversation, but I think you answered your own thought. Anytime $$$$ is on the line for a lot of people; there will be a faint charade of doing something, as everything will be swept under the rug.
-
Akron is a stepping stone. At least I think it shows a sign of character that he is at least being open and transparent, that's all we can ask for.
