I think he's saying that with the Big-12 expanding, programs will try to move conferences. As those teams move to the Big-12, others may look for a more stable conference with nice TV revenue or something of that nature, thus some decent teams might try to move to the MAC. I think that's what he's saying at least.

Three for Thursday [Appalachian State Mountaineers]
Balsy replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
1. Woodson has an average of 17 completions per game this season, with 21 coming last week. My vote is based upon averages, not a lack of confidence in him being able to make plays. I'm going to go with 20 completions (just shy of the 21 or more) 2. Maybe I'm drinking too much kool aid. 3. In almost all the games we've had this year, our opponent has been able to move the ball on the ground effectively. However, I think the Zips D will step up enough to prevent scores/big plays. -
Updated for this week. Go Zips!

In my building I recently had a conversation with a lady who lives on my floor. She's an old school Ohio State honk, but her and her daughter will be going to the game against App. State. She said it's the first Zips game that they've ever been to, but she said she couldn't wait to see the the team that beat Michigan, and the team that almost beat Michigan, play (not to mention she has heard good things about the Zips). It's probably because OSU has a bye-week this week, but hopefully the Zips can put on a nice show for them.

There's a wonderful place downtown with only micro-brews and unique grilled cheese called Locke View. It's to die for, highly recommend it.

Over 300 yards in penalties means one of two things: 1. Both teams are horribly disciplined (which, is actually quite possible). 2. Ticky-Tacky flags being thrown and not letting the game play out. As for the fans leaving in the 3rd quarter...with College games lasting almost 4 hours it's no surprise. No-one in their right mind is going to sit for 2.5-hours, watch the team take an near insurmountable deficit, and wait another 1-1.5 hours to leave. Especially when it will take probably another hour to battle traffic to get home.

+1. I didn't post it simply because I didn't want to jynx it.

As does App State. Anyone see the crowd they pulled for the Miami game? Sheesh...

My bad...I thought it was Tom Brady who said that.

No one was taking pot shots, cheap shots, or personal attacks at the "naysayers". We're just pointing out that perhaps ZipsNation (not the website, but the fandom) would benefit from not overreacting to one game. The sky is not falling, we need to take a step back and remain calm. In the words of Tom Brady: "Relax". We finally have watchable, fun and enjoyable Zips football. As for leaving; I sincerely hope it was the alcohol talking. I left earlier this year because I wasn't finding anything with the University of Akron enjoyable at the time, and I had a lot going on in my personal life. I decided to give the forum another chance, because...we're actually winning! There is something to enjoy about the University of Akron at this moment in time. I also would personally like to note on the side, completely unrelated to you Keener, that there seems to be a few more lurkers posting than there used to be. I love it! That's a good direction for the forum, and hopefully we can continue to get some views that are different and unique.

I think this game is a lesson to ZipsNation. KEEP CALM. Don't Freak out until the game is over. We've got a good QB, Good WRs, it appears we have several okay RBs, and a defense that has the ability to step up as well. The fact of the matter is, we aren't the caliber of team to beat the Wisconsin's of the world. Yet. But first things first: lets do what we haven't done before or in a long time. Continue to go 2-2 in the OOC Beat Marshall at Marshall (Check) Go 3-1 in the OOC (TBD) Beat Ohio (TBD) Beat BGSU (TBD) Win the MAC East (TBD) Win the MACC (TBD) Let's make progress on these things first and then worry about beaing the Wisconsin's of the world IMHO. We FINALLY have watchable Zips football, enjoy the ride.

Bowden is objectively the best coach the Zips have had in the past decade. The Nay sayers will continue to pile on, and they'll list coaches like WMU's coach saying "why we couldn't have landed him" or some other nonsense. The objective fact is, Akron was lucky to get a BOWDEN to come coach at a 2-22 team. To have the legendary Bobby Bowden frequently talk about this program. And the program has turned the corner. And hopefully he has, and is bringing stability to this program. Is he the coach to get this team to beyond just stability? Time will tell. But he is OBJECTIVELY the Best coach in Akron D-1 history. Anyone calling to fire him is being ignorant.

Agreed. Nice play. I'll trade blocked punts. Zips have made a very nice recovery. The pendulum has swong in our favor, now they need to buckle down and prevent it from swinging too far back in the other direction.
-
Very nice recovery by the Zips. Questionable TD off the fumble, but we'll take it. Some of the penalties have been borderline ridiculous...on both sides. But these seem to be two pretty evenly matched teams.

Give JoJo an Oscar.

Roughing the passer? Really?

Zips are beating themselves right now. Zips look to be the better team, but penalties and turnovers. Zips offense doesn't seem to have any problems moving the ball. So far...

Sorry for the late update! Now updated for today's games. It looks like the MAC is pretty much playing the Mountain West and C-USA this week. Should be interesting to watch a few of the games to see how we stack up against these other G5 conferences as a whole conference. Few observations: Western Michigan: is playing it's second Big-10 team this week. Could they be 3-0 with two wins over Big-10 teams? Toledo: Could be 3-0 with a home stand against Fresno state. This is what the Zips should strive to be one day. Kent: Playing they're second FCS team. Blood is in the water, could Kent go 0-3 with two losses to FCS teams? Enjoy Rainy Saturday College Football everyone!

Updated for Saturday's contests. The East is far behind the West. MAC West seems like it's going to come down to Toledo vs. W. Michigan in the last game of the season to determine who's going to Detroit. MAC East is wide open for the Zips to take IMHO. It's difficult to say what Akron and BGSU are at this point, losing big to top 10 teams. It's also difficult to know what Ohio is either. Beating Kansas isn't huge, they finished last season in Miami (Oh) fashion, 0-12. The last two OOC games should paint a better picture for which of those three teams should be favored to go to Detroit.

Typical Zipsnation.org. One loss, ONE to a ranked team and everyone starts calling for Bowden's head. Objectively: Bowden is the best coach that Akron has EVER had. most D-1A wins ever in a season. Only bowl win, is his. Turned around recruiting of local kids. Like seriously? Losing to a ranked team and you're throwing him under the bus. Hell, everyone reacted this same way when we got blown out at Oklahoma last year, and we it was the best season the program has ever had. They made me eat my words for trash talking, but I'm not going to start trashing the team. I'm kinda regretting coming back to the forum. Everyone needs to relax.

Grow up, stop being ridiculous. That's what fans do. That's what all fans do.

Absolutely an unbelievable ending! Way to go CMU!

CMU currently leading 22 Oklahoma in the 4th quarter. Did not expect that.
