  1. Don't be an idiot. Use your quality University of Wisconsin education. It is clearly implied by the context that he meant, and was suggesting, that you don't actually have a daughter. Which would be quite irrational, and pathetic. If you had a daughter's soccer game to go to in the first place. Seriously bro, find something better to do than to post on a lowly MAC opponent's board at 12 am...1am...2am...3am, just makes you look sad and lonely. If being a "Zips Fan" is so important to you, maybe we can invite you into our small, but fiercely loyal Zips family. Then you won't be such a sad, lonely internet troll anymore!
  2. So if Houston throws 2 first half INTs you're saying that coach will put in a RS Freshman who will just hand off the ball? Doubt it.
  3. Looks like we'll be seeing Hornibrook then, who will throw the 3rd INT.
  4. UA 28 - UW 24 T. Woodson 300 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT J. Lane 90 yards, 1 TD W. Ball 70 yards, 2 TD B. Houston 250 Yards, 1 TD, 3 INT C. Clement 100 Yards, 2 TD
  5. He is a senior. I had him when he was a Freshman, as in I taught him while I was at Barberton HS.
  6. You have no idea what "that" D can do either. 1 game a sample size does not make. We'll certainly have a better idea tomorrow. This is garbage logic. It's not the transitive property.
  7. Week 2 games have been added. I'll update them Saturday after our game. Lots of FCS opponents for the MAC this week, so the East shouldn't fair as bad as it did last week.
  8. This comment and the other like it earlier are exactly the reason I, and many, have decided to be less active on this forum. No-one cares about your BS political opinions/ one-liners. We don't all identify with them, and they don't do anything but divide the forum. Not to mention, it's a little Ironic that Ohio voted for Obama TWICE, and you're going to make fun of Wisconsin for being a bastion of "Liberalism". Wisconsin passed one of the most anti-work anti-union bills in the entire country, while a similar bill was repealed by THE PEOPLE in the state of Ohio. Wisconsin isn't any more "ultra-liberal" than Ohio is. What a joke. I came back for a little while and it's the same nonsense on this forum, nothing has changed.
  9. 2013 Michigan Wolverines were ranked No. 12 when the Zips (previously 1-11) played them and took 'em to the last play of the game (and quite possibly have won). The No. 12 Michigan Wolverines that year had beat No. 14 Ranked Notre Dame worse than the Badgers beat No. 5 ranked LSU, and absolutely crushed CMU the week before that. Hindsight is 20/20; so everyone (especially Wisconsin fans right now apparently) explain away that game as Michigan was a "down year". Objectively speaking though we can't rely on hindsight. At the time Michigan was being considered an upstart on the turnaround, a dark horse for National Championship consideration, especially after beating Notre Dame (a team with a lot of hype itself after going 12-0 and losing the national championship) 41-30. From the same logical tree, one could easily say that Penn State, Michigan and Tennessee all had down years because they played against the zips and therefore Wisconsin is also in for a down year this year. What I'm trying to point out is what everyone already knows; its all noise. Rankings mean nothing more than a popularity contest at this point of the year. This is why we play the game and we don't put W's on the schedule before the games are played. Yes it isn't a mirage, I am posting. Cheers everyone.

  11. Has anyone received their football season tickets yet? I haven't seen mine yet...yet I have all the other tickets as part of the alumni package. I want to make sure I'm not the only one. Cause if I am, I need to contact someone... Thanks!
  12. Love the new jersey. Z with name below it looks a little weird. Does this leave all the helmets we had from last year along with the pant combos? And do we still have the black uniforms in the mix...from a distance in dim light it'll be difficult to tell the difference between the Navy and the Black uniforms.
  13. I didn't realize the WP had written a story on Amna. She's a friend of mine. She is also quite a beast, puts many weightlifters at the gym to shame.
  14. Regular season: Under. Entire 2016 Campaign: Over W vs. VMi L @ Wisconsin W @ Marshall L vs. App. State W @ Kent W vs. Miami L vs. WMU W @ Ball State W @ Buffalo L vs. Toledo W vs. BGSU W @ Ohio Zips get over the hump and beat both BGSU and Ohio in the same year, ending the losing streak. They end the regular season 8-4, but pick up another win in the post season either through the MAC Championship game, or a second consecutive Bowl game to finish with 9 wins. Go Zips.
  15. Gone forever? No. Gone as a regular contributor and reader, yes.
  16. I had Kobie Booker as a freshman. Good kid. Maybe my fandom rubbed off on him a little
  17. Not I. Though I have had several conversations with Mr. Drabick.
  18. Couldn't resist coming back and checking out this topic with this incredibly good news. In the next search, UA would be good to do a REAL search; involving all with a vested interest, putting all with an equal seat at the table: Alumni, Students, Faculty, Community, Business, Researchers (etc), in a search committee capacity. I don't know what the right grouping would be, but it shouldn't favor any one particular group or interest. Allow for equal input and involvement and you'd be shocked at what good can happen. The last search was a haphazard, lazy attempt, clearly phoned in to go after Tressel. I was a regular check writer, but even with this move I'm not going to think about starting to write those checks again until I see a real effort. The SCAR, as much as I dislike him, was just a figure head for a political agenda being pushed by the Board of Trustees. Every bad move by Scarborough, was approved with thunderous applause by the BoT. I would also like to point out, though, that the Financial Troubles were self-inflicted and due to extremely poor leadership, both by Dr. P and The BoT. They changed the requirements to get into UA, without really considering the longstanding financial impact. They were full steam ahead, without throughly planning the impact it would have. The "drastic measures" taken, though, were in large part done so to free up capital to be used on The SCAR's bogus, awful, initiatives. Many members here, and myself included, could have told UA (for less than $840,000) that these initiatives would ultimately fail. UA could have given $840,000 to it's departments, under directive to use it to increase student retention and there would have been far, far, far, FAR more successful than the privatization method used by The SCAR to reward associates of his with contracts, that would pay near minimum wage to "Success Coaches". I predicted it to be a joke then, and now it has proven to be exactly that. Always be skeptical of privatization. Trust your people, trust your alumni, trust your students. Work with them and build a community worth being a part of; before you lose even more of your dedicated alumni. That's my two cents. Enjoy your summer everyone!
  19. I’ve been deliberating this for some time for the last two years or so, but I’ve finally decided to do it. I’m not going to be an active member of this forum anymore. Some changes in my life as well as the increasing time since graduating, I’ve lost interest in following The University of Akron and the Zips more than just casually. My passion for everything UA has diminished quite considerably, and it’s really unfortunate because I used to be very passionate about it. It didn’t hit me until I was sitting at a basketball game this past season with a friend from college where I found myself saying: “why am I even here? What impact am I having being as passionate as I am?”. I don’t like to be the downer but attending games thinking those things and reading the forum this past year have significantly killed my passion for UA. I almost cancelled my alumni season tickets this year because of how much I’ve lost my passion, but renewed last minute. I’m hoping that by separating my connection with it for awhile and putting the Zips aside, that maybe one day that passion will be back. I can’t really explain it, but that joy I once had for everything UA is all but gone. I originally joined this forum 4-years ago while I was a senior at UA because I was desperately interested in finding some sort of University of Akron community to be involved with, and to continue being involved with after graduation. For awhile I thought it fulfilled that sense of community I was looking for, but lately I’ve been questioning if it ever did. I think ZipsNation should do better to deal more kindly with one-another and to treasure what little passionate alumni-community UA does have because it's all it's got. I may occasionally check back in, but I’m no longer going to be a contributor or regular follower because I don’t find it really all that enjoyable anymore, and I’m becoming increasingly to busy to be dedicating as much time to reading, commenting and caring about The University of Akron. Any members interested in perhaps meeting up during football season for a drink, send me a PM and perhaps we can make that happen if my schedule permits in the fall. Good luck to you all, and as always; Go Zips! -Balsy
  20. Annnd there it is; the run to the "dismissive-youth card". How charmingly adorable. Your predictively dismissive tone towards those younger than you as if age is somehow equivalent with both knowledge and wisdom is both desperate, and tired. Age does not make one wise nor knowledgeable; critical thinking and thoughtful analysis of issues, along with the credibility of the evidence that supports it, does. Comments like "which has contributed to the over population of libs in this country" is far from knowledgeable, wise or even whimsical or amusing. The fact of the matter is that a lot of those in NEO are not impressed with the Scarborough administration. Many more within the University community are the same. To dismiss this fact as: "well it's 'cuz of those gosh darn LIBERALS!" is inherently absurd, incredibly short-sided, and possibly destructive. Dismissing young people as a bunch of petulant know-nothings, is why this University is in the precarious place that it is.
  21. As always, I'm going to call out bullshit side comments whenever they're made. Actually, that's more true for the Baby Boomers, and the generation X's, not so much for the Millennials. Millennial voters are some of the most informed in the country, certainly the most well educated, and the worst paid (compared to previous generations. Millennials as a group reject so called "mainstream media" more than any other group of people, and MIllennials are more liberal than any other group in the country. Not to mention "lib" or "liberalism" is a nebulous moving target, because it's changed as the right has become increasingly polarized over the past several decades; so much so even Ronald Regan (if you removed his name) would be denounced as a Liberal today. The media is also far from liberal, if you take any objective approach to analyzing what is said and done in media (case and point the media onslaught on ultra liberal Bernie Sanders). Sure seems like your pulled that piece of wisdom right out of your ass.
  22. His position is TE, and he had a 4.40. Still think Brown would have been a better pick overall.
  23. Blue & Gold, you're alright and I appreciate that your criticism. And I agree with some of it. I'm a huge advocate of presenting both sides, as you put it. Though on some issues by presenting both sides sometimes it can lead to distorting reality a bit if you follow an "equal time" formula; We landed on the Moon vs. Landing on the Moon was a conspiracy; or 9/11 conspiracy nonsense. (I mention those specifically because I occasionally as a science teacher, get asked about those two things by students and have to spend a considerable amount of time talking about the reality of those issues that, if given equal time to both sides, may not be so clear). I would like to point out though that Syed did mention that they have had some of the National Guardsmen involved that day as guest speakers before; "Previous speakers at the May 4 Task Force events have included political activists, those on campus in 1970 and National Guardsmen, he said." Now who they were wasn't included in this article, and I tried to do a little online digging and couldn't come up with anything, but I think we should take him for his word that they have had them there. Now I'll grant you it is entirely possible that the individual National Guardsmen selected may have been cherry-picked because they fit a narrative, but we may be reading way too far into the issue at that point. Perhaps the separation I would like to make is that I don't see them as calling the individuals involved out for their involvement, trying to shame them in some way (the police officer, or the National Guardsmen or the Police in general) but instead bring attention to the larger power dynamic involved with those situations, and bringing attention to them and analyzing them is how we find how to deal with a situation better. I will say that I think we both may be reading into it a little too much, but it is certainly good to talk about. I think sometimes people are just too darn stubborn to talk about things and articulate why the believe the things they do. Had people never done that, I'd still be the person I was in HS, who was very different person than I am today. Thanks for sharing a more articulated opinion, of which I do respect and agree portions of.
  24. He's going to get picked up by someone, the question is who at this point. I really thought the Browns would take him late 4th, based upon how they've been drafting...drafting players who have had to overcome adversity and have a chip on their shoulder. Brown I think fits that bill perfectly, helping turn around the Zips.
  25. Despite what Zips fans might think, more people in NEO take the ABJ seriously than they do the UA BOT or UA for that matter. Also, it's not like the questions the ABJ editorial raised are somehow out-of-step with what people in NEO are already thinking...because it isn't.
