  1. That doesn't exclude fewer teams or FCS football in time, however.
  2. I knew it was him or Giiliam. I remembered it was a New Orleans program then figured it was Diggs but then saw they are still playing at New Orleans. They must have started back up.
  3. All those contacts and connections were vital in retaining Bowden and canning Williams.
  4. The scholarships as I understand them are essentially one year renewable agreements. Each year, the school has the ability to not renew. It's a **** move if they don't and it quickly impacts your program's reputation if you do it, but they can do it. When programs shut down, the best thing they can do is help the kids find a landing spot. I can't remember who it was, but the Zips a while back picked up a basketball player that left a program being shut down as I recall.
  5. Akron's student teacher ratio is 20:1. More student athletes arguably require more faculty. It is certainly an economy of scale, but they cost the University something. Blue & Gold- is your dad interested in adopting?
  6. "We." LOL. He's not tall enough to be of any value anyway!
  7. There are some guys with that build (Charles Barley, Rerun on What's Happening) that are mobile. He may be one of those. It seems odd that we as a fan base that benefited from a guy like Big Dog is critical of the body type of a player, but that's how the times have changed!
  8. Wait. Bam Bowman has a twin?
  9. Was Bob Huggins not accountable? Caleb Porter? Keith Dambrot? Thank you for your service. I don't agree with your persistently negative stance, but thanks for being on the front line.
  10. 1. Sorry, I need more than some vague internet report from a source I've never heard of. 2. He was "all in" enough to turn a steaming turd into MAC champions in 3 seasons. 3. If it's "going down" in flames, who could blame him for keeping his options open? 4. I am not D-E-L-U-S-I-O-N-A-L.
  11. I hate to deprive you of your much wanted "I told you so" moment but it's a little premature.
  12. I just wonder what we'd get at the reduced rate of pay the new guy would get. Lord knows we don't want this- He's Adam Gase level crazy looking.
  13. Any closure of a university would require political involvement. There's no way any politician is going to take the political heat that would come with that. Elimination of duplicative programs is where I see this going. Each university keeping its strengths and students getting directed to schools in their areas of strength. Akron gets engineering and law, PCCC gets basket weaving and cosmetology, OU gets animal husbandry, YSU gets organized crime studies, etc.
  14. University of Akron Brimfield Branch has a nice ring to it.
  15. The Gold Ticket raffle has been extended until June 16th. They are also now including the prize of the entire football program to the winner (but they have to pick up all costs going forward).
  16. Yep, it will be a battle at the top. I was amused watching the ESPN's "The Last Dance" and them talking about Jordan's letter to his mom asking for her to send him money during his freshman season. I assumed they paid better, even back then.
  17. Agreed, but they're going to have to come up with some pretty specific rules or just throw the doors open entirely. Without specific rules, boosters will set the market for players and you'll have guys like Phil Knight paying kids thousands to make Nike appearances/go to Oregon. I envision LCJ supplementing his income with commercials for Wentz Financial!
  18. I was speaking with a friend today that is a casual Zips sports fan. I mentioned that the football program, along with the rest of the university, was facing some cuts and maybe a pairing back to FCS. His response was "that's a fine example of sports Darwinism. That football program hasn't been worth a s*** in years."
  19. I can't fathom that they'd cut ALL sports. There are changes ahead but the AD's charge is to cut 20% of the budget, not euthanize athletics.
  20. If he's being told to expect a 20% cut in his pay and the program budget and not to expect any more support from the administration and ETSU is willing to offer much more, I can't say I blame him. It could potentially be a warning shot fired by him to those starting to sit down and crunch/trim the numbers.
  21. That falls under "mentally challenged.' I used that cuz we're talking university level stuff here.
  22. I think that we all need to step back sometimes and acknowledge that just because another poster doesn't agree with our position or sees things from another perspective does not mean that they are wrong, disloyal to the school or a program, or even worse mentally challenged as we sometimes suggest. These are uncharted waters. There are no 100% correct answers.
  23. My grandfather was an old time one classroom country schoolteacher. In defining an "expert" he said "an ex is a has been and a spurt is a drip under pressure."
  24. Naaaah, not a waste of time! Thanks for posting.
  25. Some show on Netflix I bet.
