  1. Not to sound cold, but I'll happily allow Sayles to go into the portal in return for getting Al-Amin, Roberts and Turner in.
  2. That "2019" is the total players in the history of the program rather than a year reference!
  3. Exactly. If he is really using it just as a measuring stick as the and his team suggest, I guess it's a good use of the system. However, if he thinks he's anywhere close to NBA ready, he's delusional.
  4. Love these updates from the players. Genius idea. It really contributes to fan attachment.
  5. Quite a rebound from this proud moment- https://www.si.com/college/2015/04/02/chris-jans-bowling-green-state-fired
  6. It's a FORUM. A forum is a place to exchange thoughts and ideas, not a one sided discussion. Say the same damn thing over and over and over and it gets on my nerves, but not seeing a lot of wins this year is not a problem. Teams don't instantly go from zero wins to a winning record. This is a season to see progress on the field or start second (or third) guessing the Arth hiring. 4 four wins would be a huge success. 2 or 3 is a more likely outcome.
  7. Another opportunity for a big program to poach a MAC player. Looks like there's a lot of dysfunction in Bowling Green. I believe he'll go as a graduate transfer, so he won't have to sit a year.
  8. There's a real advantage to being a private school and focusing on one sport.
  9. Welcome back to NEO JoJo.
  10. He sat out one year due to the transfer and a year due to a knee injury. No thanks to a kid going on to his 3rd school in 4 years. I'm okay with a transfer for a kid who didn't work out somewhere or a JUCO kid who wasn't ready for college, but at this point it starts looking like a pattern of discontent.
  11. I would have hoped that they'd come up with a better tape than one against that appears to be a 7th grade CYO team. To the kid's credit, he averaged 26.2 points and 10.3 rebounds as a senior. He averaged 15.9 points and 6.9 rebounds as a freshman, 22.8 points and 6.9 rebounds as a sophomore and 27.5 points and 11.6 rebounds as a junior.
  12. Good luck to the kid. I hope he gets the opportunity to some day participate in the CBI tournament.
  13. Exactly, like playing West Virginia with the added in state rivalry component. I liked it when OSU football would play an early warmup against an in state opponent. Hopefully, the Zips established a nice relationship with Xavier and can schedule them at some point. Taking it to them in a scrimmage probably didn't help!
  14. Nice job with the numbers. I think it will be tough for them to repeat a 24 win season, however, I think another year on Reece, Tribble, Dawson and Ali goes a long way and that Trimble, Curry and Dailey will go a long way to replacing Banks, X and Cheese. Not 24 wins, but no reason that if healthy they can't win 20 to 22.
  15. I thought Jayden hit his head on that fall and I was really scared for the kid. Spoke to him at the Ice Cream Social this year and he was excited to finally be injury free. I wish the kid well. I don't think that lack of effort was ever an issue for him, I just think the staff saw the other bigs as more valuable. I hope he finds success wherever he ends up.
  16. Remember how Noah Robotham was never quite the same after his knee injury? I have a similar feeling about Jayden since his wrist injury two years ago against BG.
  17. Welcome to college basketball in the 21st century. I hope this means he knows there's another good big on the way.
  18. Kreed, since he's not here to object!
  19. May the basketball gods place a serviceable 6'10" readily available big man in the transfer portal.
  20. To get us past our lingering disappointment, I thought it was a good time to start looking forward. Last year, I started the Looking Forward thread to take the focus away from the end of the season griping. This year, we’re in a much different place. Our Zips have gone from 15 wins to 17 wins to 24 wins and a MAC championship under John Groce. Assuming the NCAA doesn’t allow seniors to return, the Zips look to lose Cheese, X, Banks and Riak from the regular rotation. Stepping in are Dailey, Curry, Trimble, Clarke and Edwards. Of course, this could always change (see Eric Hester). It will be interesting to see what Groce does with this slate of players next year. If I had to bet, I could see a starting five of LCJ, Trimble, Dailey, Curry and Reece. Tribble could be in the starting five but I could see Groce not starting him with an eye towards using him quite a bit as both the primary backup at the point and at the 2. Ali and Dawson should also see quite a few minutes. Clarke should also see some minutes as he settles in. I’m not sure what they have in Edwards. I think next year’s squad won’t shoot the three as well as this team, but they will be deeper, more physical, and may rebound and defend better. I think Zips fans will love Maishe Dailey. He’s long, plays hard and is a likable kid. I loved how he supported the team from the bench this year. It’s going to be tough to top this year’s special team but I think next year’s version will be fun too. I think the community is finally starting to get it so we’re going to see better crowds and some rocking nights at the JAR.
  21. Thanks. I guess it is about time for me to roll out a "2020-2021 Akron Zips Basketball- Looking Forward" thread.
  22. We should all be basking in the glow of a MAC championship and be repeatedly glancing at the clock to see if it's time to leave for the JAR for the selection watch party, but instead, nobody has posted in 14 hours. Sigh. LIFE AIN'T FAIR.
  23. Not surprised with Toledo's transfers. They had a wildly disappointing season.
