Keep up the good work.

To think Bowden was fired solely based upon his win loss record is naive. I'd bet if we looked back to last year's posts the same people griping now about Arth were calling for Bowden's head back then. Also, as Captain states, Arth's recruiting was hampered by the University's slow hiring process. BG was slow but still hired Loeffler nearly two weeks ahead of US hiring Arth.

As to the criticism issue, constructive criticism can certainly lead to improvement. That being said, I'd temper my criticism to anyone in a period of transition, not throw out the same criticism without regard to the circumstances involved. I also think that those who harken for the olden days of "Knute" Bowden are either naive to other issues that came with him or unwilling to admit the issues. Certainly, none of us would wish this misery on our University. We all want a winner and that's why we're so passionate about it. However, this was a predictable situation, one that comes with every rebuild. If the misery is ongoing, Arth clearly wasn't the guy, but 32 days into the season is a little early for the "Chicken Little" reaction.

It sucked then too.

2019-2020 Akron Zips Basketball- Looking Forward

20 wins isn't the bar it used to be. You can reasonably come out of the OOC schedule with 8 wins. You win most of your home games and split on the road in MAC play and you're around 20. -
2019-2020 Akron Zips Basketball- Looking Forward

I had a nice talk with Groce at the Ice Cream Social about the team's continued progress and development since he came on board. He wet on to explain how when he was offered the job he spoke with his staff and they thought they could come up to speed a little quicker than usual because the team had a nice nucleus. By the time they got here, they were essentially down to 5 players. This is the year I think they take a step forward as he's finally on to his kids and program. -
2019-20 Preseason Poll - Impact Player(s)

Very little. It's just a joking jab at Danny's tracing all that is bad in the world back to Larry Williams. -

Not if Larry Williams has anything to do with it. -
Do I have to respect his decision?

His show is on 1350 from 3 to 6. Seems like a very nice man and has some decent area guests. However, his voice and ingratiating nature can drive you a little nuts sometimes.

It's actually "Munch", Munch Bishop. I don't mind the new guy. I lost all faith in his predecessor in 2017 when he felt compelled to explain to me that there was no difference in the talent level between the UA and Penn State starters but that the difference was in depth. This was when the starters were still in and Akron was getting killed.

2019-2020 Akron Zips Basketball- Looking Forward
clarkwgriswold replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Yes. They lost Ivey and Utomi which hurt, but I think the additions plus a year under the new kids from last year more than balances out those losses. I think they are also deeper than last year. I don't see them being world beaters and I haven't broken down the schedule, but I'd bet around 20 wins. -
2019-20 Preseason Poll - Impact Player(s)

I voted for X. My thought is that by this point most of the players are what they are and the way your going to see substantial improvement is by adding to that nucleus. -

I've never inspired anyone or anything before (other than looks of disgust from girls in high school). -
Eeegads, political talk on a sports forum. To think I come here to get away from the real world.

Agree on that starting 5. I think/hope Banks gets his shot back. I can also see situations when Riak comes off of they floor and we see Reece and X on the floor together. I anticipate Reece being the biggest addition. I like to watch guys in warmups, especially new guys early in the season to get a sense of what the Zips have. Early last season, Banks had a beautiful shot while Cheese really struggled. As the season went on, they went in different directions. My observations of Banks' shot is what gives me some hope. -
In the post-game, Arth said how proud he was of him for his effort. That tells me he tried to suck it up but has been hurt.

High schools aren't permitted to recruit and the Hoban fans say he doesn't.
-
No need to apologize for caring. That's the mark of a real fan. Your original post just had the sound of a kid telling his mom that the kids at school were making fun of his clothes! Also, don't lump me into that one Balsy. They're only 4 games in and were hamstrung in recruiting by their late start. If I don't see improvement this season, better recruiting in the offseason and a substantial improvement next season, I'll be with you, but for now it is premature.
-
Maybe that's the problem. You're wrapping up way too much of your self worth and emotion in this. Sure, it's disappointing but it shouldn't make you miserable or impact your clothes or school pride. The Zips are awful. There's no other conclusion that can be reached. Questionable play calling, but the biggest issue is a lack of talent. Hopefully, this is the year of experience for young guys to improve that will pay dividends down the line. Improvement will require not only the development of those kids but some better recruiting with a full season and off-season to beat the bushes.

FF: Game ends at 0-0 after countless overtimes and the fans, refs and players just giving up and calling it a night.

GCCC was one the teams they played in Last Chance U. From his HUDL tape, he appears to be very good when unblocked. LOL.

I have adopted a new policy- I will not respect the decision of anyone who asks me to respect their decision.
