Kind of an ugly game, especially in the first half. Hard to tell Kwan was even in the building. 11 guys played more than 10 minutes. I love the depth, but in the long run we need to develop a couple of impact players. Classy gesture by Ball State in wearing the purple shirts in warmups. RIP Dan Peters.

I checked his numbers early in the season and he was, well, being Nick Harney. Looked like he was up and down, taking nights off, etc. I just know my blood pressure while in the JAR has dropped significantly since his departure.

Welcome back to the teeth grinding hair pulling foot stomping 2014-15 Zips.

I hope that article is correct that he graduated.

Can't State sues Geno Ford for $1.2 million
clarkwgriswold replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I wonder if between this and his lack of success whether old Geno has any regrets. I would hope that his contract with Bradley puts them on the hook for this. If not, it is another layer of bad lawyering on behalf of Geno. I hope this sends a message to programs about poaching other schools' coaching talent. -
BG @ Akron.... Buckle up, it's Orr no more
clarkwgriswold replied to The Hip Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
What self respecting foam would want the memory of my... Oh, never mind. -
The announcements about the season GA passes, listing the same price as before the season started are a nice touch too. Some "Come to the Zips games" billboards would be a nice touch and get the turnstyles spinning!

It's going to be one of those seasons. Our youth at key positions coupled with our reliance on the three are going to add up to a lot of inconsistency and some painful nights. Just when we'll be ready to throw up out hands, we'll get a gem. Welcome to the 2014-15 Zips.

Those footsteps may be the footsteps of underclassmen who may be taking their minutes as they continue to fail to contribute.

Akron just tweeted "Don't let the door hit you in the @$$."

His kid is presently a UA football player.

Jerome Lane was also an Akron kid, having played at St. V-M.

If a renovation would cost $38 million what do you think a brand new arena would cost? I don't think he's that proud.

I get the stats, but please oh please oh please don't let me see another 3 footer passed up for a pass for a three pointer!!!

That little guard from Coppin really tormented him. I was very pleased to see Antino play well, and Malcolm Walters was a pleasant surprise.

I am just curious about what else is going on around campus to draw the kids. Not to be critical, but this is AKRON, there can't be that much more else to do for the kids in dorms and just off campus. I could understand it if we were still the commuter school we were years ago, but things have changed significantly in that regard. As for the bottomless pit that football has become, I'd think they might actually get more attention as a good Football Championship Subdivision Team or a DII team, as opposed to a perennially bad FBS team. The greatest excitement I can remember for UA football was when they went to the Stagg Bowl in the mid-70's. I'm thinking Illinois State and North Dakota State fans are enjoying their programs far more than we are.

I was amused by the comment in the Beacon article that Big Dog's poor conditioning was due to his off-season wrist injury. Apparently, one can't ride a bike or exercise with a broken wrist. Glad to see him get back in the swing tonight. 10 to 12 quality minutes from him every night could go a long way. All in all, despite the point difference, I thought it was an ugly night for the Zips.

The Zips need to realize that shots inside the three point line are permitted. It looked like Robotham was badly hurt. It was good to see him come back, though he had a rough night all around.

Forsythe can't be in at the end of close games with his free throw shooting.

I'd sure miss my seat vibrating every time someone goes up or down the lower level seats!

I am afraid that the in game inconsistency/streakyness is the symptom of a young team that we will have to deal with all season.

Ugly win, but a win nonetheless. Some awful possessions for the Zips tonight. Glad to see McAdams get on track. He and Kretzer need to start stepping up consistently for this team to have any sustained success.

The perfect analogy for $38 million into the JAR is the Jimmy John's delivery boy with the $3,000 in rims and tires on his $500 1997 Honda.

Trust me, the jail has been overcrowded since it opened and non-dangerous offenders have been released for. There are not many people left in that jail that aren't dangerous. The jail has been refusing most misdemeanants for a very long time. Trust me, those who will now be released are not the kind you would like in your neighborhood.

Let me preface this by saying I am Akron born and raised and have three degrees from UA. That being said, if I am a 17 or 18 year old talented male basketball player, it is unlikely UA would be at the top of my list. The basketball facilities are second rate, the student fan base and support are nearly nonexistent, and the city has little to offer when compared to others. As such, Dambrot has little to work with in recruiting other than the success of the program, and he has done well to get the talent he has and be a consistent power in the MAC. The fact that the football program has been such a drain and the community's lack of support for an arena further hurt the program. Based upon the cards he's been dealt, Dambrot has been great. He's clearly the best we've had since Huggins and we should be happy to have him.
