That's more like it. I agree. For someone to call this a bad team is just dumb.
-
Is this supposed to be serious?
-
I'm sort of in the same camp. On one hand, if this was happening you have to think something would be said by now. On the other hand, I look at the MAC schedules every year.

I have no idea on contract status, but they have 7 freshman and 3 sophomores, so you'd think he'd be given a pass on this season. Still, needs to produce more than he has. I don't believe Danny Clark has an offer from OSU. There is mutual interest of course, but long way to go. I highly doubt he'd fall to Akron though. -
It's not really a conspiracy. Follow the money. The MAC has bowl tie-ins, but they need teams bowl eligible to fill those spots. So they - and other conferences - setup schedules trying to maximize bowl-eligible teams. This benefits the conference and also all teams. The NFL is completely different. Parity is good to keep all franchises healthy. The NCAA doesn't need that. Obviously there's a lot more to it than that, but that's the gist of the thought process. I'd say it doesn't matter. Our team hasn't been crap because of bad scheduling, it's been crap because we hired the wrong coaches. Now we hire a good one and things are looking up. No secret to it really, just hard to find that guy sometimes.

We went last week for the upset of Ball State. Maybe a young team gelling at the end of the season? Tomorrow is senior night too, so hopefully they get some support. We'll most like attend volleyball, but that's a pretty good football game. The young QB from Massillon appears to be a star in the making, but Highland is pretty good too. Nice matchup. -

I'd say it's a pretty big night on campus. Soccer game, volleyball game, and Massillon/Highland at the football stadium. Everyone that can should really attend something tonight. -
The Diamond Head Classic Facebook page posted a graphic that's pretty cool. Akron comes off very well I think. This link should hopefully work: Diamond Head Classic

Zips look outside of Ohio for 2014 talent
legendofzippy replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I'm not sure how much it would help recruiting, but we do have two guys contributing to the Panthers right now, who are looking more and more like a team that could make a Super Bowl run. So I'll be pulling for them to come out of the NFC. It would be great for those guys obviously, but it certainly couldn't hurt the recruiting pitch. -
Interesting. I'm holding to the Steve French theory that the MAC purposely gives good teams a soft schedule to maximize bowl teams, so I doubt we get this. But, I really hope you're right.

What does how big the event is have to do with anything? The biggest is the Super Bowl, and the recent Giant teams are the perfect example of getting hot at the right time to win at all. Or the Ravens last year. One-and-done tournaments are incredibly difficult, and March Madness has three weekends of it. I agree on the World Series, though you get 7 games so it's hard to complain much.
-
Well those people are morons so who gives a crap.

What a great argument. "I have no idea if costs have gone up, but I'm going to say they have to support my point." In the future, try facts. Expecting more? Fine. But I don't have the time to repost every whiny statement in here where people are boo-hooing because other MAC teams went on tournament runs and we haven't. The NCAA tournament is great, but a lot of it rides on getting lucky with matchups and having a few hot shooters. We've been to the MAC championship 7 years in a row, there's a great team on the floor right now, and we have a great group of talented freshman. There's very little to be complaining about, but the entitlement crowd finds a way.

JFK may have said that, but it's a biblical reference to a parable about those who have received blessings from God. I'd say relating it to a coach's salary is a stretch. Dambrot's Jewish so it doesn't apply anyway. As far as coach earning his contract, he's done that. But some on here feel entitled to more, which is absurd.
-
We all know what the goals are, but those who whine about the lack of a tourney win or a huge road win can piss off as far as I'm concerned. Team and staff work hard and have given us plenty, they don't owe anyone anything.
-
I agree that Ndour is going to be a handful. I wouldn't say he didn't play well though. OSU exploited their speed advantage all night to keep OU in foul trouble, but Akron doesn't play like that. Our bigs better be ready for his energy. I was hoping for a down year from OU but it doesn't appear that way. Very early though.
-
Why? First off, the Miss State victory was pretty nice, but why do we "need" any of this? Coach Dambrot has built the premier program in the MAC. Quit whining and enjoy the ride.

According to 11W, we've also made an offer on Lonnie Johnson (IN). Lonnie Johnson -
Anyone else watching the live stream? Audio not working for me, but I'd say that's a decent crowd for an early season women's game.
-
For those saying we always choke on TV, um, we've done ok in bracketbuster games, won a few MAC championships, have beat some pretty good Can't and OU teams..... let's not get carried away. Also, nationally televised games mean we're playing a pretty good team, so no shame in losing those really. Let's be happy we get prime-time games, plenty of other MAC teams would like to have that problem.
-
Same here! Overall, it's an early season game. Playing on the west coast at 3 am - kind of hard to get a read on that. I'd say they hung in there but couldn't hit a three. There were some good looks around the 10 minute mark that didn't drop. Maybe they get a little momentum if they hit a few of those? Who knows. PG play is a big question right now, but that's the reality for a lot of teams in college BB so let's see what the coaching staff comes up with. Too early to start jumping off bridges. I think we're in unison on one thing - future looks bright for Big Dog. And Tree was impressive, which he'll need to be all year.

Wow, who knew lights would be such a major discussion topic. On Saturday I took my daughter (12) to the women's volleyball game. As soon was we walked in the foyer she said "it looks brighter in here." It's pretty obvious to anyone that it looks much better. It's a good improvement.
-
Sounds like a lot of excuse making. Give them credit, they won. Hopefully the team is looking for some revenge tomorrow. Should be a big crowd.
-
What? Stoops has a championship, has gone to 8 BCS games, won 80% of his games, 7 bowl victories, 8 conference championships.... Boy, I wish we had a coach that overrated.
-
Since when do we have great attendance anyway? Something different can't hurt. I have the day off so I plan on being there, but it is a shame more and more businesses are open that day. I'm hoping for a start later in the day, but I'm sure we're at the bottom of the priority list for ESPN.
