Don't we also have a blowout loss to an average BCS team?

I agree this happens, but I'd like to hear zesty weigh in on this one. I don't mind language evolving, but I don't really know why that has happened with different words over time. But in very recent history, words like "unique" and "literally" only seem to be evolving because most people are using them incorrectly. So we decide incorrect can just be correct. That seems depressing.

The general consensus on the helmet seems to be "fail", so hopefully it was a one-time deal. The marketing department generally does a good job though. Our website gives out this definition of a Zip. What Is A Zip? According to my education at Akron though, "one of the more unique nicknames in college sports" is poor English. I was taught something is either unique or it isn't, there is no degree of being unique. Accurate?

Along with the identity crisis - this kind of zipper isn't even why we're the Zips. Why further confuse the issue? Hated the helmets, loved the game. JMU looked good, but Akron fought back and won. Let's see where Pohl goes from here.

I'm sure UCF looks at us the same way.

Ugh, I forgot about that VT game. Nice win, but I hope you don't get another one this week. There was a guess that you guys might bring 5,000 people to this game. Is that possibly true? Pretty long trip for 5k people. But we'll gladly take your ticket money!

Wow, that hurts. I guess the rally cry of "we almost hung with a non-bowl-eligible team through three quarters" just isn't doing it for me. And again, I don't care what the half-time score was, that game was an ass-whipping.

It does look weird, but winning the MAC is all that really counts anyway, so I doubt they care the order of the first few games. Malone though. That's going to be rough to watch.

You're happy about beatdown from a team that wasn't bowl eligible? And I'm the one with a loser mentality? Allowing 600 yards of offense means the other team did whatever they wanted to do. I'm done with moral victories anyway.

Yardage means nothing? Maybe you'll understand football in a few years. If you are only going to count points though, they had 21 more than us. Also not great.

Even at the half they basically had double the yardage. I look forward to a future where it doesn't take a ton of luck to hang with teams.

Unfortunately I was at the UMass game. Three hours I'm never getting back. Tennessee was not good last year. The only SEC team they beat was Kentucky. We hung around for a half because of key turnovers, but overall we got rolled.

Can we please end the myth that we played well against Tennessee? They outgained us by 300 yards and won by 3 touchdowns. Why is everyone so happy with that game?

I think we're straying a bit from the original post. It's not a must win for the program - we've been terrible for years and are still around and not going anywhere. But is it a must win for TB? I don't think so - we're certainly not going to fire him if that's the question. Programs need stability so I think this staff will be in place for as long as possible. In general I think TB gets more credit than he's earned, but there's no denying he and his staff are working their tails off. When he took over how many legitimate FBS players were on this roster? How many still? This will still be a tough year, but we need a few wins for a little momentum. It's possible but going to be tough. This staff also needs more time to build trust back with HS coaches. Apparently there are many that would steer kids away from Akron in the past, but that appears to be changing.

This is exactly what I meant. MAC teams make the tournament every year, yet we're still waiting on our first Final 4 appearance. It's not impossible, but boy it's close. Again, who cares. We're lucky to have very talented teams right now, let's enjoy the ride.

Look at how many people show up every game. I think "back the zips" is a nice way of saying "get your ass to the gym."

I'll agree with a slight twist. First, ditch FBS and FCS. Go with Div I, Div II, Div III, etc. Div I could be the big 5 conferences, II the mid-majors, III gets in to the FCS level, then on down into the Mount Union level and beyond. You'd have some teams that would be borderline, but I think it would make more sense. You could still play another division in games - I believe that was North Dakota State's seventh FBS win in recent years - just not in playoffs. Then we'd have a realistic shot at a title. People that run the bowls will prevent that as long as possible, but I wish someone could prove if it would be more lucrative. Maybe it wouldn't be, who knows. Some teams wouldn't be happy with their division, but maybe the soccer model of moving up/down could come into play. Pitt was on last night and they're as good as an example as anyone. They can't compete with the big boys right now, but they'd probably not like competing in Div II either, as a matter of pride.

If you picked your school based on the football team, you made two bad choices. It's basically impossible for the MAC to play for a championship, and an Ohio school? No way. OSU will always dominate in-state recruiting, plus we have to split the next level guys with Can't, Toledo, BGSU, etc., so again, lets lower expectations a bit and try to win a few games first. BTW, the basketball team has virtually no shot either. The possibility is there for that sport because of small rosters, but the blue-bloods have resources we could never dream of. What's wrong with winning the conference championship anyway? It's the life of a small school. If you're not ok with it, you should have picked somewhere else.

Cutting to the chase... what is your point? Akron is never going to compete for a national championship, so just get over that part already. Who cares? We're closing in on the 3 year anniversary of our last FBS win and you're worried about a national championship? Let's try winning the MAC a few more times.

4-8 what? Wins? We have one of the hardest MAC schedules coming up, plus a Michigan team that - on paper - is well ahead of UCF. Last night was not what we expected, but no one could have actually expected a win. Sad it is, 3 MAC wins would still be a huge year for us. We're not the only team that improved. Bowden still needs to prove himself here, but the coach who should not be named left him nothing. Going to take a while.

When you think about the number of good QB's we'll be facing this year, it's hard to project many wins. It appears we still have a very long way to go. UCF is good, but certainly not great. If the Zips play like that in two weeks, Michigan may be resting their starters in the 2nd quarter. First objective still remains - get an FBS win. Then hopefully win 2 MAC games.

Selling ecstasy is hardly the crime of the century, but couple that with an assault charge (for Fisher) and we're clearly talking about a quality individual. A little humility for OU fans that jumped all over Abreu. Too bad the whole team isn't running a meth lab though. One can dream.

I don't think most people understand how "Vegas" works. They don't think the Zips are 50/1 or 75/1 or whatever, they think the average gambler is thinking close to that. They're not trying to accurately predict anything, they're trying to get you to think you know better and bet your money. Point spreads are the same - they're not a guess on the outcome, they're a guess on how to get even money on both sides. I guess my point is don't get worked up about Vegas. The Zips need to show well on the field and hopefully pull off an upset.

The did mention the distance, actually it was closer than their stadium. I agree 15k seems low, but we didn't hit it once last year. Hopefully with a better team we can get there some this year. The program really, really, really needs fans to show up for some games.
