  1. It is apparent by some of the replies that there are some folks who didn't endure many,if any of the years at the RB. Attendance has nothing to do w/ 'tarping off' sections of the stadium. If you have to do that it just means that you aren't interesting enough people in the program to get a decent crowd.. They tried that at the RB. We still had 20,000 empty seats. If we can get 20,000 for home games next year it will be a miracle. If they don't win the next couple home games there won't be any big crowds. TB,win at home.
  2. Probably right about the largest crowd of this season. As some of us realized long ago, football has never been a great draw even with good teams. The 'new stadium'effect was gone in a few games. This year will be tough. No CAN"T home game. Too bad they go to Tennessee this week. If they get bounced, people will lose interest..again. Only hope is that they could knock off Miami and BGSU while the weather is still decent. 4-5 wins for the season MIGHT get a few more folks interested for next year. Gotta beat MIAMI.
  3. As much as we would all like to have the long term success of a BSU,lets win the MAC Champeenship again...first. Crap on OU all U want but FS has pulled that program out of the boondocks. If TB starts winning here,he will be gone! Once you have tasted Glenmorangie,Dewars ain't so good. BSU is an anomaly. Petersen is a really good coach who hasn't chased the $$$ like the rest of the money grubbers...yet. Unlike a lot of people he has a worth ethic. Obviously, some folks aren't actually attuned to fball history around here.
  4. Several ugly issues here.Info apparently has worked its way inside the University. Uof A students are apparently trained by Info personnel about working in call centers. Its not just the involvement w/the stadium naming rights. One other thing was pointed out in the story was that solicitors were apparently lying to potential donors about what percentage of the funds raised the charity itself actually was able to keep. During the story they played a recording of an Ohio AG investigator making a call and apparently being lied to by a solicitor. One of the administrators of one of the charities admitted the charity did not get the majority of the funds. And,in some cases the charity or non-profit if you will had to pay Info. People can believe the story or not. This is not a ne issue and fits with revalations that have come up in the past. The charity/non-profit wants to get names/phones of potential donors for future use. Of course the donors aren't told. One of the administrators admitted that if they told donors that the non-profit/charity wasn't getting most of the money, nobody would donate. A number of years ago United Way got bound up in this issue. They had to start revealing what percentage of funds that were raised was actually going to the charities under the United Way umbrella. Best thing to do if it bothers you is to not give to non-profits/charities that use outfits like Info. to solicit funds. I didn't read this in the ABJ.
  5. Nice to see some people are paying attention again. Think that the Miami game might be the key to the season. Not only from the team perspective but from the fan support perspective. Somebody close to the program told me that ONE of the concerns this year was fan support. Said they NEEDED to WIN at HOME in September or there would be a lot of empty seats later, again. Assuming they can handle Morgan State,a W over Miami would be huge for team momentum and fan support. 1-4 going into October...no
  6. You are right. Not really going to do much regarding attendance or recruiting. Its a shame. When you are under 2 mins and ahead your D HAS to win the game right there. Doesn't matter what happend the first 3 Q's. Until they start winning consistently at home not many are going to pay attention even though they look like a different team Offensively. Thats why I think TB is going to make more changes over the next 2 weeks in the hope that he has his guys in place for the MAC. I think the Miami game on 9-29 is going to be huge.
  7. Nobody w/ any brains give 2 flyin' f.x about the bottom 10,top 10, middle 10. Yep its definitely better than last year. Don't get too excited. The D is still a long way off. The O still can't or won't RUN effectively. No real playmakers have stepped up at RB or WR. Its a high risk offense. Lots of TO's and mistakes are going to happen. Live w/ it if you like TB! TB may have to bite the bullet and run a little more early in games to 6take the pressure off the passing game and the D. Too bad they really had a chance to win and couldn't figure it out. Morgan State should be easier.
  8. TB has got some key positions he can't trust. RB,WR,LB yet. The D is going to be weak all season. But,if QB continues to improve and he can find a RB who will run N/S and can catch they can get into some shootouts in the MAC and sneak up on some folks. Sorry,tonight...
  9. UCF is a better team than most think. As good as a number of Big 10 teams. As far as the Zips,TB is still looking fo for players. He has thrown down the gauntlet at RB. Chisholm won't be playing much unless he learns how to run. Some of the WR's will be looking for more PT also if they don't step up in the next couple of weeks. The LB's and DL's are going to be a revolving door until they can stop the run.
  10. Boy,hopefully most of us don't have the spread as our main concern when it comes to Akron football. Although it apperarst there are a few folks who have that in mind on a regular basis. Guess you could have made some decent money betting against Akron week after week over the past couple of years. Fortunately the onfield performance of the team has nothing to do with the amount of money some folks drop on the game. Oh,unless you are Toledo?
  11. While an updated chart hasn't been posted,TB is already making changes. Fireson is no longer #1 on the chart. Be interesting to see how many more 'starters' slip down the chart over the next 3 games. TB needed to see people against legit competition not just in scrimmages against questionable talent. He is rearranging the chairs now to get ready for Miami on 9-29.
  12. Anybody got an explanation for this?
  13. Zips can win a few games this year, maybe not FIU,if they can get into some 'shootouts' with some other teams. In a few weeks TB will figure out who can catch and run in game situations. Those guys will be on the field. That should cut down on drops, not hitting holes etc. He needs to find a couple of RB's who can hit a hole quick and run North/South. This offense isn't normally going to provide a convoy of blockers in the run game. The D is still troubling. As long as they can't stop the run, they won't be able to get off the field. UCF exploited weakness on the right side of the Akron D on the ground. Could have been their best O linemen on that side. Might have to take some more chances on first/second down and load up the box a little more. Hope the secondary can cover better.
  14. The good, the bad the ugly. Actually saw some really good stuff last night on the offensive side. The 'firedrill' offense is great tow watch. It looks like DW can run it competently. He was throwing those long out patterns decisively. Doesn't have a huge arm. But,he can get the ball far enough down filed to keep defenses honest. He missed a couple of wide open receivers. But,that might be a matter of patterns run incorrectly also. TB is auditioning at RB and WR. Too many drops. Noticed Chisholm didn't play too much if at all the second half. They were yelling at him on the sideline. Assume about not cutting upfield or hitting holes quick enough. I think TB is 'culling the herd' now so he can have who he wants in place for the MAC. O-line was helped by the quick rythmn passing game. Run blocking is a work in progress. They will need to run a bit more. The D was, well porous against the run. UCF kept running to its left successfully in the first half. Too many guys trying to catch the ball carrier as opposed to meeting the ball carrier. The D-line got a little pressure on the QB at times. Amato may have to 'trick' up the D a little more this year. Until they get a higher level of talent on that side of the ball it will be tough to play a lot of straight up D even in the MAC. There were point in the game where if someone catches a pass, makes a cut on a run or makes a tackle at the point of attack, the game gets a lot more interesting. If they can get through the next three games relatively healthy and find the 'right' people, they could be at least competetive in the MAC.
  15. Ya know this game is weird to me. UCF is on probation. No post season if I am not mistaken. O'Leary has probably worn out his welcome down there. No doubt UCF has a lot more talent than the Zips. Depending on how the UCF kids respond and how long Akron can stay in the game, could be a UCF blowout or a lot closer than most might think. Might be to Akron's advantage for Fleming to be on the other sideline. Interesting coaching matchup. O'Leary the plodder v TB the gunslinger.
  16. If you are not HOPEFUL you don't have a pulse. If this team is better in November than in September then things will be fine. Would be nice for an upset in September just to get more butts in the seats the rest of the season.
  17. Thank you! The 'bad apples' are tolerable under certain circumstances. They may very well be talented on the field. But,there is no guarantee that even if those guys ended up on anybodies roster they would help produce an immediate winner. They might end up being run off again. You can bring in a few of those guys occasionally to fill some holes. But,you better do your home work and not just look at the potential on the field. Some folks seem to think that because a few guys from big name schools transfer here that a winner is assured. Might help, might not short term. Does nothing long term of it doesn't work.
  18. Not that I have high expectations,but... I'm looking at the roster and the number of players who have actual game experience, the players who have been 'brought' in and the staff. IF this team gets some decent QB play and Coach Chuck can raise the level of play on the D side, this team might surprise some folks. Not saying that is what is going to happen. But, 3-4 games into the season if these guys start to figure it out, they may sneak up on some MAC teams. Not expecting too much in the first month. They better beat Morgan State. But, if they can cut down the TO's from the QB position and control a game a little on the defensive side, they might have a shot at some upsets. They might get into some 'shootouts' but what the hell.
  19. I can't fathom that there hasn't been some reaction to the editorial by Mr. Robert Kraus concerning the current state of football at UofA. Maybe its because it is on the editorial page! It is available on Ohio.com. It is dated 7-25-12. Apparently this gentleman doesn't think too highly of what has happened in the 'front office' since 1986.
  20. Given the emotion I see in this discussion,I hope this motivates at least a few of you to actually get out in the community and give some of your time to those who are victimized. There are plenty of opportunities available to work directly and indirectly on behalf of victims of abuse.
  21. Not that TB needs our approval. But he is doing this appropriately on several levels. 1) He properly evaluated the talent he has at the position. He probably saw early on that Moore was not a fit for a system that requires a quick read, quick realese from a 'pocket' situation. (Still have to wonder what Ianello was thinking trying to fit Moore into a 'pro' style offense.) 2) TB is giving Moore at least some opportunity to hook on elsewhere if he so desires. 3) TB is obviously looking 2-3 years down the road and trying to develop players who might be ready to win when he has more parts in place. The Zips need one of the younger QB's,Pohl or whomever to be ready to play at a high level next year and the next year and the next year. 4) TB knows there are not enough pieces in place at this point to win consistently. But, he is hoping that he can get enough improved performance at the QB position to at least be more competetive this year. That wasn't going to happen with Moore.
  22. Always intriguing when the sports world encounters something that is difficult for them to connect to sports. Its interesting to see people gnashing their teeth about this because they can't understand how the president of a university, the athletic director, the head coach etc, etc. could allow something like this to occur. It happens thousands of times daily to all kinds of vulnerable children. We don't unfortunately hear about all of THEM because they weren't connected to a major, money making football program at a major university. I work with kids who are victims. I work with the adults who victimize them. It happens like this in families all the time. The kids are scared, relatives know but don't come forward. They ignore what they know. Keep it in the family unit. Its embarassing. Its not hurting anyone else is the sick rationalization. Think of Penn State as an extended family. Its the same type of thinking. Its sick rationalization of despicable behavior in hopes that nobody else will notice. I wish people would get as upset about this type of criminal behavior ALL the time. Unfortunately, children are the least represented population in our society. Its easier to go to work and a football game than it is to deal with this issue.
  23. The idea of asking the 'really big boys' to play each other during the regular season is not new. Not even recent. One of the reasons it hasn't happened is because the big conferences know they can control more money by hanging on to conference affiliations as long as they can. That means even conference games between teams that have no realistic hope of winning the national championship continue to have meaning, draw fans and TV ratings as long as those teams could get in to the national championship tourney. Take the mid level conferences out of that mix. Give them their own tourney and national championship. More interest, more fans, more money.
