  1. I don't even call back. They just want MORE money on top of what we already give. It is kind of low class when you think about it. Bad product for years. Now, they want us to fork over on the POSSIBILITY things might get better. Why not be up front and say we'll lower the price for seasons a few bucks because you fans have suffered. Then if things turn around we will be willing to pay more for the better product. YA RIGHT!
  2. Hopefully we can keep the expectations in check for this year. I think there are going to be some disappointed players come August. TB has no reason to play anyone just because they played last year. Will the team be more competetive this year? We have to assume just because there will be some direction from the sideline. This team should get better from August through November even if the wins aren't there.
  3. Can't say that the Zips would have beaten Michigan. Was Northwestern as 'good' as Michigan? All the games in the NCAA are 'on the road'. Can't say they would have won yesterday. Zips don't have someone who can take over a game like Cooper. Maybe Abreu can get there. Sorry until you do it its all speculation and wishful thinking. The MAC a 2 bid conference? Not right now. Maybe what they should think about is ditching the conference tournament so the 'best' regular season team goes. For the marginal conferences like the MAC the tourney is only to make money and get some ESPN/STO time. The conference may be penalizing itself, because the 'best' regular season team may not end up going. Last year when the #1 seed didn't make it to the NCAA we didn't notice as much did we?
  4. Good for OU. Though I am NOT an OU fan. As I have watched them the last couple of weeks they clearly have started to play better and have risen to the occasion in big games.
  5. OK. His athletic and b.ball ability is superior to most other individuals in the MAC. Whether OU beats Mich. or not, he is a big part of the reason OU got to this point.
  6. When do you think that will happen? KD has raised the level of the program significantly since he came in. Next step is to not have to rely on the tourney win and get an at-large and win a game in the NCAA.
  7. Watching the Ohio/ Micigan game. DJ Cooper is carrying OU. He is the type of player that can carry a team in big games. Most teams at the MAC level don't have that type of player. Thats one reason I'm watching this game tonight.
  8. Has little to do with Temple or any one school. It is simply that the MAC as it stands competitively as as a football conference and as individual teams is/are not attractive to any of the bigger coferences. Temple got back in because they are in a big market, the were in the BE before and because they improved their program.
  9. Guess nothing before 2000 counts?
  10. What does this look like for the MAC,long term? It appears that the coference is gradually being minimized, especially in football to the point it will eventually become insignificant. UMass is probably looking at this as a stepping stone. The MAC higherarchy better hookup with another conference quickly or there will not be any chairs left in D-I.
  11. Well, do ya think that this young man has had that offered to him previously? My suspicion is that he has. And yes one can offer,'re-education'(thats a loaded word if I ever heard one. Sounds like Manchurian Candidate) etc etc. I hope the guy keeps it together long enough to 'graduate',stay out of jail again and not harm any more innocent people.
  12. For Ridenour to spin this as a 'second chance' for this guy is a bit amusing. It appears he has had one more second chance a few times. Yep,he is probably an off the charts physical specimen. And,if he gets on the field he will be a beyond MAC talent player. I hope he takes advantage of the multiple opportunities he has been given due to his physical talent. If TB can keep him under control good for everyone. The guy does his time in Akron then goes to the pros. I also hope that if Jenkins continues his bad behavior TB doesn't let him contaminate the rest of the team. When JD was here he admitted making that mistake with a few guys. I think David Harvey comes to mind. Anyway, I would love to watch a player with the talent Jenkins has playing at the Info.
  13. Used to go to several games a season. Actually if the weather was good I didn't mind taking a chair and sitting at Jackson Field. But,its tough to get motivated to go to a game when the teams has been as bad as it has and the weather around here in March and April is so shitty. With Can't and its highly thought of program sitting 12 miles away its going to take a few years and some wins to consistently start attracting legit talent. What was it,1986 when they went to the NCAA and played T.Tech? I was living in Texas at the time. Oh well.
  14. Good all around athlete was JA. I would like to see if Nicely can somehow make a comeback for his senior season. He did not get a fair shake with Ianello in the QB 'competition' last year.
  15. In one way its OK. In another its obvious its being done to try to put more butts in the seats. Its a shame. Nothing against beer mind you. I bought it out at the Bowl and quaff a few before every game. I wonder if the team had been winning and the crowds were bigger if this would have happened?
  16. Can the Zips beat Can't 3 x's in one season and twice in about a weeks time? Thats tough for anybody.
  17. We can get the hard copy on Amazon. Is it possible to do a 'Kindle' version also? Would like to have both.
  18. As opposed to 'moving up' to a higher rent district,I would be worried about some MAC teams falling further down the food chain than they already are. There are a very few basketball programs in the MAC that might attract some outside interest. Akron likely would be one of those few. But,there would be no interest in taking Akron or most, not all, of the other MAC football programs into a 'better' conference. Competeively,Akron is in its niche competetively.
  19. Actually these guys were testing the helmets. They were dropping/swining an object so that it struck the helmets while they were stationary. Then somehow they measured the forces inside the helmets. These guys wern't advocating going to leather, they were saying that this particular type of testing suggetsed that the design of the modern helmet might need rethinking.
  20. I was watching a program on TV last week. Can't remember where the research was going on but it was about this issue exactly! The researchers were studying concussive injuries. They compared current helmets with the old leather. I actually wore a leather constructed helmet when I played 8th grade football in the early 60's. We had plastic but they gave the old leathers to kids they didn't think were very good. Guess we were expendable. Anyway, the research seemed to be pointing toward indicating that the leather helmets might be better at preventing concussions than the rigid, hard plastic that is used now. They didn't say anything about other types of injuries.
  21. Thats not being a 'downer' thats just being realistic. Until the MAC starts knocking off some of the big boys during the regular season AND wins a game or 2 in the NCAA,please don't expect the powers that be to leave out the power confernece schools or the really good mid-major schools for a second MAC team. The loss to VCU and the loss to ORU seem to be pretty indicative of where the Zips and the conference are at in the pecking oreder.
  22. Never was much of a chance. Schedule is too weak compared to the big conferences and they lost 2 of the games that MIGHT have given them any chance. The loss to VCU at home really said it all. Win that, IF they had won today, won out and gone to the MAC chmpionship game they have an outside chance. Now its the tourney crapshoot.
  23. To get an at-large Zips would have to win out in the regular season and probably at least get to the MAC Championship game. MAC is just not highly regarded enough.
  24. Interesting outcome. Apparently his attorney was either real stupid or the attorney's client was real stupid. This guy has a history of this type of behavior. He 'got away' with a prior situation where he was involved in what amounted to illegal sexual activity. Guess he figured he was bullet proof...again. When you don't learn responsibility from the adults around you when you are a kid,its tougher to learn it as you get older. His attorney may try for Judicial Release but that won't happen. Knowing what he is going to have to do when he gets released on parole/post release control its gonna be tough to get with that program. He better get a dose of humble because he is going to be doing a lot of scuffling inside if he doesn't.
