  1. The whole OSU thing would have been no more than bird doo doo on you windshield if Mr. Tressel had told the truth when he first had the opportunity. Who told him not to 'release any information'? And what information specifically was he 'told' not to release? The BS about his excuse that there was some sort of legal investigation going on so he couldn't tell the truth is just that,BS. Yes there was an investigation. That did not give Mr. Tressel license to not tell the truth. He had a personal attorney. Your first call is to your attorney IF you are at all concerned about your own eventual culpability. If the legal authorities(not the NCAA) wanted Mr. Tressel to tell them what he knew w/o going public, thats cooperating with an investigation not concealing information. Did an explanation of that sort ever surface? Mr. Tressel made this about him. Yes its a shame that some other administrators didn't fall with him. But,now it is what it is. Hopefully there will not be any future blowback on Akron. Good luck Mr. Tressel.
  2. Need something like 200ft or so I believe. More width too.
  3. I think next year will be the year for some higher profile recruits. The staff will have more time. AND,if they can win a few games AND with the PUB Akron has been getting, I would expect even more Ohio, Western PA kids to hop on board.
  4. This looks promising. Anybody know what sort of system he played in? Brother at IUP. Can't be all bad.
  5. Akron is getting its 15 minutes...There have to be unwritten promises to Tressel for on down the road. Maybe AD who knows. Just keep him far away from the Athletic Department for the next 5 years. We appear to have a real chance of turning the football program around. We don't need NCAA sanctions screwing that up. If he can raise money for new facilities campus wide more power to him. The guys on KNR were talking about a new fieldhouse. There is a fine line with this one. Dr. Pro, you made your splash. Don't get wet.
  6. Last year they gave us parking passes for the deck down by McDonalds?! If thats what they are talikng about its pretty useless. The AD better hope that Bowden gets some wins early.
  7. Oh,by the way,I already had Security Essentials installed at the time of the attack. The Rogue disabled it and the ability to update. Another place you can go just in case is Malwearbytes.com. They have a pretty good FREE download as well as pay to play softwear. The free one did quarantine a lot of the crap. Only thing is that it appears that you can't run that when Security Essentials is operational.
  8. OK. I did get some good assistance from Microsoft. They gave me some online links that scrubbed the virus and fixed the major problem. The Kaspersky anti-malware program was the one that I think actually finally cleaned up the mess. But I had delete my account on the computer, set up a new one,set up anew e-mail account etc, etc. Apparently this one just attacked XP because once I was able to download XP security updates again the patch that Microsoft came up with stopped the infection from reappearing...for now.
  9. Just got a letter from the AD. Seasons are going up $15/per. It did say there will be some concession vouchers thrown in. Also some sort of a parking pass. We'll see.
  10. Good point. Its hard to get dramtic improvement on both sides offense and defense in year 1. A coach brings in new systems. He has to kind of choose which side of the ball he wants to upgrade first. Looks like 3 POSSIBLE at home. Can't on the road hopefully. But the other road games are really gonna be tough. Don't realistically see wins there right now. Year 2 is probably when the improvement will show up on the field. Gonna be some new faces at a lot of positions. I understand they brought in another QB who MIGHT end up as the starter. There will obviously be a steeper learning curve if thats the case. Gonna be better than the last 2 though.
  11. This is not about football but about your computer. A really ugly virus recently infected my computer. Comes from trolling the net and getting those informational e-mails. I believe it was called Rouge something or other. It appeared to be attacking versions of Windows XP among others. I had what was supposed to be an excellent ant-virus operating on the computer. This thing disabled it. Finally got the computer operating properly after about 2 weeks.
  12. Are you saying you don't think Dennison or someone other than Faust could have upgraded the talent to MAC level? There is no myth about Dennison. He did what he did at the D-2 and 1-AA levels. Thats all. Lots of teams have been making the jump to D-1 and have had to upgrade talent. Nobody used the word 'great' either. Dennison had decent talent and a decent record for the level Akron was playing at then. Maybe he could have succeeded where Faust didn't. Maybe not. Maybe someone other than those two could have handled it better. Who knows? The move to D-1 just didn't work out all that well.
  13. Don't know about Massillon either but its too much of a stretch to think any high school team could beat a DII college team. Too much maturation takes place between 18 and 23. And no matter how bad the college team,it is still collecting more good players in one place than even a team like Moeller could recruit. By the way, those Akron teams Dennison had just before Faust took over in '86 weren't THAT bad. They were 10th in the 1-AA poll in '85. They went to the 1-AA playoffs in '85. They were 8-3 regular season. '84-4-7,'83-8-3,'82-6-5. As a wise man once said the cupboard wasn't exactly bare when Faust came in.
  14. Trying to watch this game. Don't comment much on B.ball but Akron has some really dumb people on the floor for some reason. They have turned what should have been a 10 pt win into a possible loss in the last 2 minutes. Can't shoot free throws. Whats new? Can't keep their mouths shut.
  15. Hopefully, this guy can keep it together for one season w/o anymore problems. Wonder what we would be saying if Can't had recruited him? 6'4'' 185#? Speed. Looks like a deep threat on offense and maybe a return threat?
  16. Gee,I liked it as the last game of the season. Next to the MAC Champ game in '05,one of the best games I ever went to was the Blizzard Bowl when we beat Can't to get in.
  17. Don't we get presumptuous here calling for this person to be fired/hired/retained etc, etc? I have done it. I guess if you assume TW was actually responsible for hiring TB(oops),then you pretty much have to keep him around. If you don't believe TW was actually responsible for the hiring but just happened to be in the right place at the right time, then you might not look as favorably upon him staying around. Just to point out,the fact that Porter and KD were 'secured' didn't seem to make a lot of difference to people before TB was hired. The majority on this board wanted to show TW the door. The fact that community/student interest hasn't really been generated since TW came here isn't new. There never has consistently been a lot of community/student interest anyway. Oh well. Enjoy the possibility of better things in August 2012!
  18. No and no. Didn't even know there was a Jeff Bowden. Let's not bring in a tired cast because their last name is Bowden. Personally, I think we got the best of the Bowdens. Brighter days ahead. Bro, just hope Terry doesn't bring in his Appalachian black-sheep brother who uses the more formal last-name pronunciation... Probably buy a house out in Ellet.
  19. To EVERYONE on the board,Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Its gonna be better.
  20. While true about Kellen Moore, he also came in and did outstanding things as a freshman. He clearly had Moore to work with. Unfortunately for Akron, we've done less with Moore. OUCH!
  21. Good post. Wagner will need a boatload of luck to get in the NFL. I think I was the first one last season to say he makes too many tackles dowonfield. Nice MAC player, not an NFL player. Come back to Akron next year Brian...It's your best shot. Kansas is a dump. Its been said before and prior to last year that Wagner is a guy you want on your team because of ALL the things he brings to the table. Shoot some people were talking about wanting him as a RB or even a safety. Wherever he ends up if he continues to be 'productive' he'll get noticed even if its as a free, agent special teams prospect. Since he already has his degree and given what he has done on the field he is obviously very driven. If the 'right' NFL team works him out he could stick for a while.
  22. Is this Zach, or GP1? Having a crappy QB from Mississippi on our roster had absolutely nothing to do with Bowden's decision to take the UA job. If it did...than what's Bowden's buyout cost? We should get rid of him immediately. I look for Bowden to be hunting for a premier QB as I type this post. One that can see over his offensive line, and who can throw the ball 40+ yards and hit a target.
  23. I hope the members of the committee are not the same people who sat on the Coach I committee. Unfortunately, nobody on the committee has probably heard of Ludwig von Mises and the three elements necessary for change. A person must experience all three before making a change. 1. Uneasiness with the current state of affairs. 2. A vision of a better state. 3. A belief that a better state is achievable. Before making Paul an offer, the committe/TW should have known the answers to these points. Was Paul uneasy with his current situation? I would tend to say no based upon the available information because WSU just played for the national championship. Given Paul's age, some discussion with him should have focused on his age and ability to make a leap/take a risk at this point in his life. The older someone gets, the more risk averse they become. Not scoring on point 1 is enough to not close a deal. However, is the vision of a better state UofA football coming off two 1-11 seasons and an Athletic Department with TW at the helm? My personal opinion is no, but others are free to argue. Strikes 1 and 2 now have happened. A belief that a better state is achievable. With TW as the AD? I would say no. It doesn't matter though because Paul was never uneasy with his current situation. Everyone thinks TW should have been able to easily "close the deal" with Paul. Nonsense. Even if TW is a good deal closer, von Mises would tell us there was no way Paul was going to accept the position. The best way to close a deal is to guide a person in a direction that creates points 1,2 and 3 to happen in the mind of the decision maker. That's what the best of the best salesmen do. Make them realize for themselves the change is necessary. Timing has to be right when closing a deal. It wasn't the right time for Paul so the timing was off. I told you guys weeks ago, I should be on the hiring committee. They need someone who understands Ludwig von Mises. Excellent analysis GP1. Believe me or not. A little bird told me that the AD at Wayne State,Fournier was an assistant at Akron but got fired. This person seemed to think that he waited until the dust settled with the Akron offer to Winters then upped the ante by offering him a very lucrative 5 year extension. Given what happened to both of them here that apparently sealed the deal.
  24. Really no secret that Bowden wants one more shot in the SEC. He has said that. If Von Mises,Von Moltke,Von Braun or Von Schlup said it was inevitable,so be it.
  25. OK so Tressel is subject to a 5 year show cause. 1)What are the specific penalties any school would suffer if they hired him during the show cause period? I am listening to the back and forth on this. The concensus seems to be that the NCAA would impose penalties to the extent that the coach could not possibly perform his HC duties adequately. Also am hearing yet another rumor that Tressel is being connected with Baldwin-Wallace. Ridiculous.
