  2. if AA can't go who is going to carry the mail consistently?...there ain't no 1,200 yd backs on this squad unless he can go..
  3. one of the 5 best athletes i have seen play at Akron...has to be #1 or#2 best corner at least...maybe victor green is there with him...
  4. i talked to a guy i work with who lives near the coach and talks to him fairly regularly...the gist of what he is getting is that this is the year brookhart has to do it or...thats why he brought in all the JC's...says as of now bain will play...worried about the running game...if AA doesn't come back...look out...
  5. couldn't beat 'em in football the last 2 years...now fuffalo beats the b.ball team in Akron and is rolling in the MAC...that team up north...
  6. He probably makes twice what JD makes just to be a coordinator at a BCS school. not hardly...
  7. if AA is fully healthy he saves the offense next year...but...coming back from an injury like he had is iffy at best...w/o kennedy and his 100+/game no running backs except AA have any significant time...
  8. uconn?...guess he didn't want to stay here very badly...not like thats the upper echelon...better than here...but he must see 'the writing on the wall'
  9. I wonder how many of the almost 400 dudes on the team rosters have ever heard of it. i heard a story about this league on the radio a couple of months ago...thought it was a joke...
  10. ????
  11. yes it was...the zips are that bad...as is the mac...don't knock any of those mac teams that went to a bowl and oh ya..had a winning season...those teams you think are so bad beat beat the zips......at least the restrooms at the INFO will be better...
  12. god no I-AA teams please!!!
  13. read somewhere that fleming was up for a head coaching job back east..brookhart isn't recruiting lb's so far...need a safety who can 'headhunt' in a 4-3...kiel fleming?
  14. You're right in one sense GP1. It says what a chickensh__ idiot Hoke really is. I lived on the West Coast for many of the last 20 years, and yes the weather can be wonderful. Before I move on to Hoke though, for those of you who have never lived in a "one season" place, it can be great, but can also get tedious, boring, oppressive. I missed the seasons terribly while I lived out west, and other than February and March here, don't miss west coast weather at all.Now back to Hoke. There is no trading up in going to SDSU to be the head football coach. Of all of the college programs that came to mind for most football fans in that part of the country, SDSU is never mentioned, nobody cares about the program, it's a doormat, a running joke. Let's talk $$$ too. That 700K salary may not even buy him much of an increase in quality of life. It won't buy him much of an increase in exposure, it won't buy relevance to college football. Unless he's from California and just wanted to get closer to home, taking the "step up" (???) to SDSU is not a step up at all.Lastly, coaching is not a profession wherein the weather should dominate your decision-making. Many of the best coaching jobs in the country are in terrible places for weather. You tell me about a football coach who would run to a SDSU to take over the program because the weather is so beautiful, and I'll tell you about a complete d-bag. GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZipInteresting note. I live in a state where I get 2 months of winter, 2 months of fall, 2 months of spring and 6 months of summer. The sun is out almost every day. Everyone is in a constantly good mood for the most part. Ohio is full of good people who are driven insane by the gloomy weather. When the Vitamin D level drops, so does the good mood.$700K is a ton of money anywhere. The guy is going to have a good living in a great place. I'm sure the weekend trips to the beach are probably going to be much more fun than the trips to the corn maze in Muncie during the county wide 4-H championships.Buying relevance in college football? What could be more irrelevant than coaching in the MAC? Could the media in California really pay less attention to SDSU than local media reports on MAC schools? He needs to leave now while the iron is hot.I don't know about "many of the best coaching jobs" being in cold weather states. It seems to me that the SEC, Big 12 and PAC 10 have the best coaching opportunities and almost off of the good schools in those conferences are in warm states like Florida, Texas, California, Georgia, Alabama, etc. This guy is making the right move. San Diego presents an opportunity that the Muncie does not. Kids want to play in warm weather. California is crawling full of good QBs that will fit well into his system. He really found a diamond in the rough with Davis. The midwest really does not product the type of throwing QBs that you see out west. With around 1 in 10 Americans living in California, he stands a better chance of finding another Davis than he does in Muncie."The sun is out almost every day. Everyone is in a constantly good mood for the most part. Ohio is full of good people who are driven insane by the gloomy weather. When the Vitamin D level drops, so does the good mood."Uh, yeah, sure. OK. Not that your assertion is anything more than an extremely GROSS generalization, like much of the rest of your post."Kids want to play in warm weather. California is crawling full of good QBs that will fit well into his system. He really found a diamond in the rough with Davis. The midwest really does not product the type of throwing QBs that you see out west."Wow. So I guess that all of those kids, and professionals, playing anywhere other than the Southwest and the South are deficient, as are those of us who love living in these parts of the country. Another GROSS generalization not backed up by ANY facts presented by you.Sorry fellas, but unless you've lived in California for any length of time (I have, in Northern Cali AND Southern Cali for many years) you just can't appreciate what a joke SDSU is to people out there. It's considered to be nothing more than a not-very-good party school. It's a classic "Surfer U" where parents dread that their kids will go there and become 50-year-old pot-smoking, pot-bellied surfer bums. Their football program is a door mat, and will continue to be. Hoke may get a little more sunshine in his eyes, but he sure as hell hasn't made the type of Urban Myer move many otherwise expected. And lastly, I get a little touchy about the loser mentality that we so often see and hear here. I made the very conscious decision a few years ago to move back here, from the West Coast by way of WDC. This area is hard hit economically. However, this region takes a back seat to nowhere else, in any substantive way. The not-so-subtle suggestion that a guy like Hoke has done well to essentially escape this part of the country, regardless of the details of the actual program he's headed for, simply does not ring true to anybody of any substance, and certainly not to people who love it here.GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZipDid you come back to live in a mental institution? Get some sun and you won't be so angry. like your comment...i was born here but lived in texas and arizona for a number of years...came back only for family reasons otherwise would be in AZ...if you like it here thats fine..but there are more opportunities of every type southwest and west...the weather is the icing(so to speak)...read that Hoke was miffed that bsu didn't want to pay his asissitants what they deserved...good for him...he gets a raise AND all that potential with those cailfornia athletes...oh did someone mention the weather?
  15. IGNORE THIS PLEASE
  16. amen
  17. i think he only gets fired if the AD really thinks he has a coach proven at at the I-AA or D-II level who is willing to come in here...otherwise no reason again to get some schmuck who has never been a head coach...
  18. the offense is not young...they have one more year with that solid O-line then it goes away...kennedy is gone...johnson is gone...who knows if Alex Allen will be OK...williams is gone....grant is gone...bain? who knows?...AND jacquemain has one year left...this team will not be better 'on paper' next year...
  19. boy you can tell we are AKRON fans...
  20. the next football excitement is when the season ticket holders for the Info get to go in and pick there seats...thats according to the ticket orifice...
  21. No question that was an issue in his 2nd and 3rd year of recruiting. I give him credit for owning up and saying that he had the wrong philosophy. That has been fixed. The last 2 classes have had excellent retention, Andre Jones got his last year back. I can't fault what is going on in the classroom now. He runs a clean program, no issues with the law. I find fault in how many games we are winning. lets also not forget the negative effects this is already having on recruiting...bad record three years running...coach who could be gone this year or next and who has little time left on his contract anyway...does a kid commit with the possibility a new coach could come in and not want him?...the entire program is affected for years to come..as odd as it may sound, if the AD keeps brookhart he may have to add a year to his contract for the sake of the long term..?
  22. there are some other issues that arise,(besides the losing records of the last three years), assuming brookhart gets'one more last chance'(sounds like a country/western song)...someone on this board said brookhart has two years left on his contract...assuming that is correct, recruiting got a lot tougher than it already was starting yesterday(he was meeting a recruit last night)...if a prospect knows the coach has two years left and the program has been losing, will he sign knowing that in two years(assuming redshirt)when he is ready to play the coach who recruited him could be gone and the new coach may not want him...thats why coaches want that 3-4 year cushion...aside from what happens to the coaching staff...starting NOW this situation has consequences for the program for years to come...by the way, wonder if that kid is going to sign?
  23. Lee, let's look at bowl games. WMU has one, they lost, they will likely get another one this year, that they will lose. They have not won a MAC championship since Cubit took over. He benefitted from being in a conference with a down NIU and a weak Ball State. Then he get's to play EMU, Toledo, and a FCS team. My point is you say we settle for mediocrity and then compare us to a mediocre team in the west. We played them head to head last year and beat them, during a horrible year, at Waldo. Yet you want to compare us to them. Do I wish that we had the number of championships they have? Yes. Do I want us to be like them? No. They are mediocre and will likely stay middle of the pack until Hoke and CMU's coach move on. They will always be a MAC school and I think everyone on this board feels our school is trying to grow and shed the MAC. yes i know 29-19 since 2005 is 'only mediocre' unfortunately if CUBIT has been mediocre brokenheart has been......? add the APPROPRIATE adjective...
