  1. I doubt they would burn his red shirt. Either we would see Tommy put the pads back on or maybe Hoyer.
  2. I like the gamesmanship of having Tommy warm-up. If we need to rest Tommy, this is the week. Hopefully, Chapman will settle down and we will have a stronger back-up as a result, Great chance for our D to improve.
  3. One solution would be to put bleachers there and move the band there. That isn't uncommon and would put the band part of the way between the home side and student section.
  4. I don't know, I hate to ruin the experience for anyone coming to the game at this point. I think the kids sitting on the hill give the game a little personality.
  5. First incomplete pass of the second half by either QB just thrown, about half, way through Q4. Great football tonight.
  6. I am watching the Toledo-BYU game right now and seeing for the first time in 2016 that Toledo is not over-rated. The offense is balanced and Kareem Hunt is still a beast. We can score on the defense. We have 5 weeks to improve enough to give our offense a chance to win it. You can't overload to stop the run without paying for it against Toledo.
  7. You know, this isn't a bad idea. Those invited could then come back to the same event during the following home game and invite 3 of their friends and the players could incite 3 more. Maybe you could local businesses to give away door prizes and the University could give away lunch with the President or TB. Another thought would be that instead of doing the very short Root walk, the team gets dropped off down by Lot 9 near the Hessian statue and walks through Lot 9, towards the East end of the stadium, to the field house. Move the marching band down there, too. If people won't go to the team, bring the team to the people. Actually liked the Zi-ps cheer across the field from game 1, but you gave to do it more than 1x and it would be great to see the students start it instead of waiting for the announcer. I was in a college marching band and we had our an cheers that were a tradition. I haven't really seen anything like that from the UA band. I think it does go worth noting that the larger band and sound from a larger band gas also enhanced game say at UA.
  8. Ditto to both...the point of posting it was to say we have songs about Akron, but not necessarily positive.
  9. Here's a possible QB transfer: http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/alabamas-season-opening-starting-quarterback-is-transferring/ar-BBwKAy9?li=BBgET5V&ocid=spartanntp
  10. Not in the title, but about Akron and not really pump up music. I went back to Ohio But my city was gone There was no train station There was no downtown South Howard had disappeared All my favorite places My city had been pulled down Reduced to parking spaces A, o, way to go Ohio Well I went back to Ohio But my family was gone I stood on the back porch There was nobody home I was stunned and amazed My childhood memories Slowly swirled past Like the wind through the trees A, o, oh way to go Ohio I went back to Ohio But my pretty countryside Had been paved down the middle By a government that had no pride The farms of Ohio Had been replaced by shopping malls And Muzak filled the air From Seneca to Cuyahoga falls Said, a, o, oh way to go Ohio
  11. +1 for Rocky Top and the whole game day experience in Knoxville. It's probably still my favorite college football experience. PSU did halt Sweet Caroline for a while, but has since brought it back. I agree - felt contrived to me. I also have wondered why they just don't change their mascot to something with a nautical theme.
  12. That was the most boring presser I think I have seen, yet, for a game week. Questions that could have been asked: How is your team responding to them being considered the front-runner to win the MAC East? What do you know about this team coming out of OOC play that you did not know going into it? Where do you want to see the team grow on Offense, Defense, and ST play through the remainder of the season? And if you want to discuss recruiting, "What does it mean to have a rivalry game this early in the season, when prospects who might be considering both schools could be in attendance?"
  13. The Bowden presser goes into that some.
  14. I have felt like the front 7 were all good, but we are not seeing any greatness. We were great in a lot of spots in the front 7 over the last couple of years so we see a huge drop off in play. There is hope that some of the younger players will still develop and I think against most of the MAC, they will be good enough to win with the offense that we have. This is very true, too. Bowden answers most questions in a very straightforward fashion except injury questions, which he understandably keeps under his hat for a competitive edge. The local coverage is a joke. Thomas had an article yesterday not worthy of reading that all but implied we were capable of sliding back to 5-7 level of play. It really provided zero I sight and zero news and to me was a very negative piece.
  15. What if there was some type of campus wide contest, for all organizations, that culminated at the end of a football game? Like a fundraising contest for a charity that had different types of awards, to motivate different types and size of organizations to be involved? It would be nice if it could include a celebrity experience (celebrity relevant to millennials, not their parents) and/or cash awards for the organizations? Or maybe make it a situation where organizations pick the type of challenge they want to participate in and then the winner of each category is entered into a drawing? If you had a theme to pull it altogether like One Akron Week (from E pluribus Unum) that showcases the diversity of the different student organizations and how the sum total make UA a better place. Maybe even pair organizations together to cultivate unity that might not normally work together or be considered polar opposites? One thing that we desperately need at UA is some kind of tradition. We have no cheer that is unique, no song that gets the crowd pumped up (Steelers-Renegade, Wisconsin-Jump Around, PSU - Sweet Caroline) and everything seems to require a corporate sponsor. I get the need for sponsors, but we should be able to have some type of tradition that is organic and pulls people together and creates an experience that makes it more fun to be together and makes people glad they are there. Maybe we can hijack this and repurpose it: One thing not mentioned impacting student attention has been weather: last year's rain and the year before some rain and bitter cold. It's hard to get dedicated fans out in some of the weather we have seen, let alone attract new fans.
  16. PFF ranks him in top 10 rookies, so far: https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-top-10-rookies-through-nfl-week-3/?utm_content=buffer98bda&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=nfl
  17. 3. - Agree completely. App State deserves a lot of credit for being prepared for us and defending us, well. The coverage was good. We took what we could in short passes, but it wasn't enough. At times, Tommy might have tried to force the long ball, but we can't give up on it completely, even when well defended, if we want to keep them honest. I still would like to have seen a few more screen passes and maybe some more sweeps. 4 - Again, agree completely. I think Kent gives the D a good chance to improve. App State is a tough, physical offense. I don't think any of the front 7 are awful, but none of them are showing up as outstanding, yet. We are no longer the defensive power house we were and it takes some getting used to, but we no longer have to depend on them to carry the load for the offense to win games, either. This year, we have to ask the offense to carry the load. Ideally, both units would be great, but we just aren't there, yet. 5- I have to agree about the kicking game. Why did we use 2 different guys for kicking off? O'Leary is our best kick-off guy, by far. 6- Yes, and I think Toledo always seems to get ignored, to other teams; peril. I don't think they are unbeatable and we do have a couple of weeks for Amato to continue helping these guys progress. Agree - a trip to Detroit in December is within sight!
  18. He is expected to start. Lots of praise for his performance this week. Very excited for him.
  19. Evidently he was banged up but not too badly at the end of the game.
  20. Agreed. There was way to much leaving BG for it nit to be disruptive. Perhaps most importantly, they lost the head coach.
  21. Who are the "plenty of people" who thinks it's BS? Did the victim cause his own injuries? RE: fighting - the article said "scuffle with another man." Sounds like fighting to me. I remain disappointed in the coaching staff for playing him the same week some of the players were in a local elementary school as role models.
  22. +1 BG looked completely demoralized. It might be a long, turbulent season. EMU and Ball State appear to be stronger this year. We can't take BSU too lightly. Both teams remind me of the 5-7 Zips, capable of a big win at some point. Central continues to look tough.
  23. Thanks for stopping back. It was enjoyable - more so for you Your defense gave our offense a good challenge, today and your run game man-handled our defense. I hope you guys have a great season! Positives from today: Great weather - 2 games in a row! No ridiculous personal foul penalties, under 75 yards in penalties - big improvement We were perfect in the SunChips Red Zone. (5-5) Coney (avg 13.3 yds/reception) and Edwards (avg 12.7 yds/carry) played well. We will not be in a lurch when Natson graduates. Natson and Lane, again had strong games. The offensive line continues to play well enough for us to win. How great is it that we will not lose anyone after this year from the OL? Tommy continues to make good decisions. Yes, he had two interceptions, but made 43 attempted passes (31-43, 15.8 QB rating) MTB made a couple of great plays at key times. Our PK was perfect on extra points and FGs. 486 yards of offense Time of possession was closer (33:53 AS/26:07 UA) Mental toughness - ability to come back I thought the run game was as good as we needed it to be and Edwards, Morgan, and MTB made the best of their opportunities. Edwards has speed. We were pretty even in yards/play (AS 7.3/UA 7.0) We converted their turn-over to points. No fumbles. Areas of Concern: Defense, especially the run defense. IMHO, it was not a coaching or strategy issue, we were beat by physicality and talent. That being said, some nice stops in Q4, when I was most concerned about fatigue. The defense seems to lack big plays. I don't think that any one person is terrible, we just don't have anyone standing out as spectacular. I think some of our best play is coming from Guiser, Featherstone, and Hope on D. Kyron Brown was also starting to emerge. I hope he is better, soon. 2 interceptions - both times were probably balls that should not have been thrown, although I think Lane was held on the second pick. I am not terribly concerned, considering Tommy threw 43 passes today, but something to improve upon as Tommy moves forward. No one was more frustrated than him. Kick offs have to be better, both kicking deeper and better tackling and coverage. Our defense is not strong enough to give up an extra 15-20 yards on every kick off. Disappointed to see a kid who was arrested for fighting not sitting out, at all. We were sacked four times, we made no sacks As was noted early, we had one more turnover than they and it translated to one more score than us. App State was more physical on offense than the average MAC team. I feel pretty confident that we can win the games we should and we should be able to challenge CMU and Toledo, and maybe win one of those. The MAC East is within reach.
