Game 4—Appalachian State Mountaineers
zipsoutsider replied to AppinSC's topic in Akron Zips Football
I didn't see him getting a lot of action last week and I think it worked out better. I am not saying he was the problem, but whatever adjustments we made were an improvement and he was not a huge part of those adjustments. -

Lol, well there a few games he played both way, right? I am not sure Briles cold get a job at Walmart right now, which means he might up with the Browns. -

Rick Neuheisel picks us over App State -
Maybe, but it's a stats driven world for the college football playoff and OSU, who is breathing down their necks bed out a better MAC opponent 77-10.

Note on Ohio v. GW: former Zips QB, Caleb Chapman (recruiting class 2014) is listed as a TE/HB. Hoe badly will Alabama destroy KSU?

Football world = those who follow college football scene and understand what wins against schools like Marshall and App State would represent. Nit necessarily Joe Akron or Joe Buckeye. -

For the most part, it seems as though the App State fan base, media, and coaches are giving us the respect, I think we deserve. I am really looking forward to a great football game! If we are able to pull off a win against App State after the pounding we gave Marshall, people are going to start standing up and taking notice in the football world. It's hard not to be excited about where we are headed, as a progrum. -

I will be honest, he didn't sound that great on ESPN3. Maybe it was an anomaly. -

Yes, agree. Maybe we see A.J. Coney worked in a little more, too. -

It was the defensive highlight of the season, so far. Clean, solid hit. Finally some shades of Zips D of 2015. -

One thing about this is that sometimes it means we have kids who have been in trouble at other schools. Knock on wood, we have not seen Bowden having any issues with these kids once they are here. Not sure if he has a knack for knowing which kids to give the second chance to, or if it's the way he manages the program. We have some transfers because Bowden let's them run track and play ball. Not all schools allow that and he sees it as a good way to get speed on the team. Some of our transfers are just looking for a shot after not getting a lot of looks at P5 schools. Warren Ball was sitting out behind a first round draft pick. With injuries at OSU, had he stayed, he would likely have seen a lot of reps, but here he can be our feature back and get more attention. The same is true with Jamal Marcus and Se'von Pittman, as well as others. It's easy to write off kids who make mistakes. I am just glad they end up at a program where coaches care about the kids, are able to give them another chance, and have the character to give some guidance vs. a young coach trying to make a name for himself. -

Bowden and Milwee did a nice job picking on a freshman corner at Marshall. I would expect that they will be looking to expose any weagkness they can find against App State and that your guys will be looking for the best way they can to shut us down. I doubt that Marshall was looking past us and don't expect App State to, especially after the points we put up. I even thing I noticed is that at one point, we did slow down the drive a little. It was nothing like we did against KSU last year, but enough to give the D a little breather. I do think our run game is good enough that it can't be ignored and we have guys who can catch out of the backfield. We may also see a little JoJo out of the backfield at some point on a Jet Bubble Sweep. -
Ball: week to week Edwards: Might be back this week Anthony Young: out for season with shoulder Wolf: has been a little banged up Chapman went in because Tommy needed a break - was sore.

Is there more to the organization than Twitter? And it makes a big difference if those backers have money. ? I can't remember where, but I think Bernie's interest is tied to being teammates with Williams. I am sure the whole turn-around story helps, too. -
This is also, true. However, Tommy can throw a stronger strike across the center of the field than anyone we have seen in a while, as well. Tommy has nothing to thsow, though, if receivers drop balls. His receivers have done a nice job showing him off. There seems to be great chemistry between Tommy and the WR corps. Excellent. will only improve as we go forward.

I probably should have put this in the CMU thread, in retrospect. This is an awesome idea and we probably have Larry Williams and maybe Bernie to thank. -

I think the officials went overboard last week. Yes, we made some stupid penalties, but they probably threw the flags a little too frequently. At least they weren't one sided. I hope the boys can stay focused this week after the big win. -

As it is now, no G5 school has a legitimate shot at the CFP. If there was more parity between the programs, we would have a shot. It's a long range plan to bring funding up at G5 schools by improving their play. -
His long ball went from good to beautiful this year and his decision-making, which was good last year, has become even better. This kid will graduate an elite MAC QB. I am very happy for him. His work has paid off.

Although the goal is to reduce the number of transfers, I have heard Bowden talk about the need for transfers to play a big part, given the nature of college football today. He is pretty vocal in believing that the NCAA should loosen restrictions on transfers. He commonly mentions that coaches can go to other programs but players can't. I think he has a valid point. The play at mid-major college would only improve if they loosened the rules a bit. There are a lot of Warren Ball type kids who never get a real shot at a power 5 that would be play makers at the mid-major level and make mid-majors more competitive with P5 schools, IMHO. -
I am not 100% sold that CMU is better than Toeldo.
