I love Cody, but he's pretty much Jatavis x10 in terms of just not having a place where he fits in the NFL.
-
I'm HOPING he wasn't offered, if he's really D-2 talent. But of course, you never know all of the circumstances why someone might have slipped down to that level.

I think you're right. People do generally believe whatever the media tells them, which has contributed to the overpopulation of Libs in this country. But in this case, I hope most of the people who care enough about this situation have followed everything enough to form their own opinion. I worry most about the athletes and potential students who are further removed, and may only be getting their news from the internet.

Jatavis Brown's NFL Draft Position

Here's what they displayed on the ESPN draft board. http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/50436 Sorry, I don't spend Draft Saturday researching all of the facts on every player picked, especially an Ivy League I-AA TE. -

Instead, they took a WR from Princeton who runs a 4.75 in the 40. -

Well, the Browns just took an OLB from Wisconsin, so I guess that takes care of the projection I saw that had Jatavis going at #99 to the Browns. By the middle of Round 4, I am now seeing 11 OLBs that have already been picked, including a guy named Frackell from Utah State who was chosen in Round 3. Does anyone remember this guy from the bowl game against them?? -

Yes, I do have issues with STUDENT/athletes who act like idiots and make a mockery out of the college athletics, and the fans who still worship them like they are some kind of diety. Read more carefully and you will see that I was responding to another post, and it was MY post that referenced Jatavis. Like always, there's plenty of other places to air your comments if you don't like people such as myself, ZippyRulz, the two others who liked my post, or anyone else on this board who laughs at something related to a competitor of the Zips. -
Attracting larger crowds? - Yes, absolutely necessary. Making the University larger with a merger? - I don't believe that the enrollment size of the University would have any impact at all on us being more attractive to another league. Media Market: I think you might have misunderstood that some of us were stating that Akron WOULD BE the only major conference team in this media market if we moved up. But if we are talking about how it stands today, it's not just Akron and Ken+ either. In basketball, you also have to add YSU and CSU in D-1. But, I still believe that the attraction of a major media market would be, by far, the biggest factor weighing in our favor.

I know. I'm laughing too. And where's "We Ain't Come To Play School" Cardell? I think it would be so funny and appropriate if Jatavis gets picked before OSWho's big "hero". But I still don't understand Miller going that high. What do you do with him? Try him out at receiver and cut him? Just like Pryor? -
Just to add to the discussion about MAC costs vs. cost in another conference...... I don't know if I've seen anyone yet who has accounted for the increase in revenue. With a higher perceived conference affiliation (whether experts agree with it or not), more recognized opponents, and the notion that Akron is "moving up" in the national picture, more internal revenue is going to follow. TV revenue, ticket sales, sponsorships, and donations should all get a big boost in this situation.

I bet some people may have said that about Cincinnati about 20 years ago, until they made some moves, got competitive on a National level, their radio stations stopped airing Suckeye games, and the local people started displaying some pride in their school. Today, the culture down there is so anti-Suckeye, it's hilarious. They mock the Suckeyes. NE Ohio has the potential to be very similar. As someone pointed out, there's NO Power 5 team here. OSWho, Pitt and WV are all a good enough distance away. But without making a long post here this morning addressing every factor that's been discussed internally and externally over the years, the real attribute for us is indeed the Media Market. Cleveland/Akron/Canton is somewhere between the 18-20 ranking in media markets in the nation, depending on what ranking you see. And we'd be the first in that market to be in a major conference. But our residents have also been bypassing the simplest way that we can make an impact on this. As I've said for years on this board, WE need to show our potential as a fan base to get behind our program. Occupying seats in the football and basketball facilities tells a conference that there's enough potential to draw television audiences, which draws advertisers, which makes money for the conference. And frankly, we fail to show that potential. NE Ohioans would jump onto the Zips Train in a second if we were to make a move like this, but I don't see them supporting the Zips with only the hope that we can make such a move.

Jatavis Brown's NFL Draft Position

Yes, I surely was a decade off. I meant to say "mid-00's" and not "mid-90's" Yes, I agree. That Rover spot in the 3-3-5 was ideal for a guy who would have otherwise just been a Small Linebacker. John excelled in that role. -

Thanks for the additional info. I surely don't think I see that LB/DB or "Rover" player like we've seen over the year in college ball. Although, I don't even think I have seen the actual term "Rover" used in years. In the NFL (at least in terminology) you seem to see LBs, CBs and Safeties. So I guess we all have to wonder if someone who's skills are "In Between" gets anything more than limited interest? Speaking of "Rover". Does everyone remember John Mackey? Back in the mid-90s I think he was listed as playing that particular position. He was sometimes a 5th DB, but lined up as an LB on many plays as well. Really tough, hard-nosed, classic type of player. He was fun to watch. -

I wonder why this has not come up yet. JB's abilities would seem to be a great fit for something like a "Rover" position, just like Polamalu. But it doesn't seem as if NFL defenses commonly have someone playing that role. -

True. All it took was one guy (Jimmy Johnson) to see his ability to get into the backfield. Hopefully Jatavis has that coach out there who feels the same way about his ability. -
I like the scout's comments "A poor man's Jamarcus Russel" and "He's not the brightest cookie in the world".

Jatavis Brown's NFL Draft Position
skip-zip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
That's EXACTLY where one of the Mock Draft's I read this morning have him going. I'd love to see him play for the Browns, simply because we'd get to see him, and our local Cleveland media wouldn't be able to avoid talking about the Akron Football. But, although he'd probably have more opportunities to shine in Cleveland, I'd feel bad for him that he ended up with such a dysfunctional and horrible team. -
I don't know if everyone else caught this, but Mike Mayock kept Jatavis in the #5 spot among Linebackers in his 4.0 version of Position Rankings last week. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000654122/article/mike-mayocks-2016-nfl-draft-position-rankings-40

Another? Neither of these two new banners they are going to hang commemorate the 2005 Championship. Instead they opted for an ugly "Participation" banner for a now-defunct 2005 bowl game that we lost? I don't get it. If the objective was to impress people with our D-1A bowl history by indicating that we played in only one other bowl game between 1987 and 2014, I think it was a bad idea.

He thinks there's a chance that he's already elevated himself far "above" MAC basketball, or he wouldn't be doing it. In addition, he's likely also going to get some unwelcomed feedback that will tell him that he's just not an NBA talent, which obviously is his aspiration. In the meantime, the other 99% of the players in our league will be focused on the 2016-2017 MAC season.

Yes, they will be back, for sure. I think the best news could be that they may both be playing next year with a lack of focus, and dreams of being somewhere else.

This is so silly, and adds nothing to the discussion. The truth is, you have no idea how, and to what level that most of us are connected to our Athletic Program. How could you know that?
-
The County handles property taxes, not the City. And putting a lien on it does nothing except attach debt to the future sale of the property. You can also sell the lien, but why would anyone want to "buy" an 84k debt on a worthless football stadium?. These things tend to go on for many years before anything is ever resolved (See Rolling Acres). However, I always see this as a sign that the property investor is in trouble. As that property tax debt continues to grow, they get to the point where they're never be able to recover. Again, I still wonder if this is all just a big publicity stunt for the marketing company.

Maybe a little bit "off topic", but I wonder what our former football coach does every time he sees the name "Gardner Webb"

So, just completely disregard your only other option to get into the tournament? Do you have a better option? Let me guess: "Just win the MAC tourney every year". Well, that's only produced 3 chances in 10 years to make any impact nationally, and those 3 chances failed anyway. Please. Pursuing an agenda that could produce an at-large situation is LOADED with positives for the program in many, many different ways, whether it happens or not.
