I think we all have that thought that he might consider coming here. If it was an issue of not playing, that's maybe a remote chance. But, this appears to be something else entirely. He was clearly going to be their starter. But, I will still dream of disgruntled SEC players filtering down to Akron. Especially after we add a Potato Bowl victory to our resume.
-
Arkansas Little Rock was the one that beat us a few years ago early, and we had to spend the entire season talking about that "bad loss" on our resume. Pine Bluff is an entirely different story.
-
And probably the primary reason why soccer always has been, and always will be far more disliked in this country.
-
I think the real issue here is just that Kwan's size could make him a better asset to us if he's closer to the basket. Period. Without debating on the number of opportunities that Jake and Reggie get to drive to the basket, or whether they are taking advantage of enough of them, I'm sure the coaches want them out there on the perimeter making some of those long shots to spread the defense. I don't think Kwan is best utilized if he's going to spend the majority of his time on the offensive end doing the same thing.

Major airport access might have an impact on poor attendance at the college soccer finals? Yes, Kansas City is surely one of our smaller American cities.
-
I think Ianello should make a Cameo appearance as the basketball coach. Hopefully, he wouldn't still be able to find a way to squander possession of the ball at the start of both halves, since he has the Possession Arrow to help him this time.
-
And I thought that the ABJ had reached a new low when they took the direction of "not sure what kind of bowl bid they will receive when they have the nation's worst attendance" when announcing that we had 7 wins and we were going to a bowl game.

Good thing it is a Cupcake. I know Keith is doing the coach's show tonight, and is flying to Kansas City for the soccer game tomorrow. And hopefully he'll be flying back there again on Sunday !!

I watched the beginning of the game. As soon as Caleb appeared on the screen for the first time during the pregame, the graphic at the bottom said, "Won National Championship in 2010 at Akron" and the commentator repeated it. On ESPN on a Sunday afternoon, we couldn't ask for any more of a valuable free plug. I hope that identity of "Won NCAA Title At Akron" follows him every time he's on TV for the rest of his coaching career.
-
Not to make things any worse, but does everyone know that this game will air at 3:30pm on a Tuesday? The only positive I see out of this is that it's on ESPN, and we can win the game.

Rowdy, Jimond is not a true freshman. He sat out last year. So, I hold him to a little higher standard than a true freshman because he's been learning and practicing for a year now, and he's a year older than most freshman. I think it's valid (and I agree) that we need to start seeing a little more of his basketball skill to go along with that athletic ability. I hope it happens. And I will agree with those who believe that many people on this board act way too quickly to extol the virtues of someone who's never played, or has played little college basketball. Catching lightning in a bottle doesn't happen very often for this program.

LoyalZip, the GoDaddy is NOT the one that's usually getting the MAC Champ, as you said. Toledo, Ball State, and Ken+ have been the teams sent there the last 3 years.
-
Rowdy, that's the same link that's on our Website too. And it doesn't show a cost. Same thing comes up, telling you the time the event starts.

I think the obvious problem with Kwan is that we loves to shoot the ball....too much. The side effect of that is that he's not helping rebound and defend. We have wing players. We have guards that can shoot. If we're going to start him at PF and he can't help us in those areas, then we have no choice but to play Pat and Isaiah together more often, which leaves us thin when the fouls start coming. Or, let Reggie and Jake play at the same time and let Jake go scrap down low. He's strong enough and has the desire to fill that role. I question whether Kwan is ever going to be able to do that at this point in his career.

Let me clarify what I said last night. The SCHOOL is making an official announcement on Sunday. And I would love if it is DETROIT.
-
There will be an official announcement on Sunday at 4pm. We're gonna have to wait a few more days.
-
I'll make this simple: 1) Plenty of the longer shots we missed were open shots. 2) Lets just hope that was just one bad game, from that standpoint. 3) I saw a post earlier that said, "If we hit 40% of our 3-pointers, we usually win". Well, just an FYI, but hitting 40% as a team is really, really good. Lets pray that it doesn't take 40% from 3-point range to win the majority of the rest of our games, because that's a pretty high expectation.

I don't have anything against the Ladies team. In fact, I go to plenty of their games, but I HATE that we have to play a double header with them and delay our game until 8pm. Especially on a weekday. I'm old. I'm usually sleeping by the time I'll be leaving the arena tomorrow night.

I didn't even notice her until my wife pointer her out to me during the Buffalo game. It tells you how much I am paying attention to what the officials look like. That also must mean that she's doing fine, if I haven't had to single her out yet for screwing something up.

Hey LZip, I've also experienced stopping in a Port City for an evening on a Cruise Boat, and only needing a Birth Certificate. But the Birth Certificate was for the purpose of REBOARDING THE BOAT, from what I understand. So, I'm wondering if it's the nature and length of the stay that is the issue, and not whether it's by air or boat? Everyone I've talked to says that we definitely need passports if we are going to the Bahamas Bowl.
-
Zach, I've been to Detroit dozens of times in recent years on business, and I've never made it there in 2 hours. Maybe 3 on a really, really good day. It's officially 190 miles. So, if we go to Detroit, I guess my wife and I are hitching a ride on your Spaceship with YOU !!!!
-
Yes, please confirm this...somebody. I can't get anyone to cough it up.
-
I got ya Balsy. I'm just happy we're going Bowling too. But, we're not likely to get a High Level matchup, and that's especially not the case in the Bahamas.

I have to mention this.... Could the Front Page (not sports section) story in the Beacon on Saturday have slanted our accomplishment any more negatively?? It said "Zips End 10 Year Drought" with a picture of the Wagon Wheel being carried., If I had been a casual fan who didn't know any better, I'd think it was stating that we ended a 10 year drought over Can't State!!! Secondly, it talked very early in the article about what we have "working against us" in our quest to get a good bowl bid, such as our 2014 record-low attendance. Really?? This is how you highlight the accomplishment of your hometown team? You would have thought that it was written by a bitter Can't State fan.
-
Beating Pitt, NC State and Syracuse got some attention. Beating Can't State to qualify for a low level bowl game doesn't. I had my house full of family yesterday for a belated Thanksgiving feast. Most of them are Suckeye Honks. They had no idea about Akron's accomplishment. But, I conveniently placed my Charlie Frye Bobble Head and the Sports Page of the Beacon on the coffee table where everyone could see it as they entered 2005 was a little different. The bowl bid was accompanied by a conference championship. Cincinnati matchup might be the best scenario for us. Ohio football fans would at least be watching the game with some interest, and that exposes Akron to potential future players and fans.
