  1. I've pointed to this repeatedly as the reason why we've started to dominate Ken+, but have started to also get dominated by OU over the last few years. OU's guards have the ability to turn this into a 20 point game, as they've done before. We likely don't have the backcourt personnel to chase them successfully for 40 min. right now. It will take pure guts and effort. Maybe Deji emerges as the defensive X-Factor in this game? Maybe a little more Zone from the Zips again tonight? We'll see.
  2. I think you'll see more people scalping tickets at an Akron game than you've seen in quite some time.
  3. We beat them at home last year. So, right now I'm at least confident that we can beat them in the JAR, which is a good first step in whittling away at their dominance over us the last few years.
  4. I like that the article mentions the movement in 1986 to put a dome on the Rubber Bowl. Not many people remember that. I guess the idea of getting an old trough urinal and a doorless stall as a keepsake is now off the table.
  5. This is a pretty good analysis. Also a little scary. We switched away from our preferred defense because we had trouble defending with the preferred method, which is never a good thing. And although it worked, don't be surprised if another upcoming opponent watches this film and expose us again. Carmelo appears to be much faster than Alex at chasing down moving guards.
  6. I think it's finally time for a couple of people on here to put the "LeBron doesn't help Akron basketball" theory to bed.
  7. I can't ever root for a Ken+ win, but I can root for an OU loss
  8. You missed what I saw saying. I was about to jump out of my chair when I saw the reference to Michigan. Further examination seems to indicate that any level of interest from those level of schools disappeared awhile ago. I can see his offer list with my own eyes. Eastern Michigan isn't quite Michigan. But, I hope you are right about him being better than most recent recruits.
  9. Ouch. I was just about to get really excited when I saw the Michigan reference, then I looked at this ESPN link and others.
  10. Nice game by Zeke. If you don't want to see people analyzing and criticizing the play of a basketball player, don't read any of the blog sites of that particular team.
  11. On one hand, I'm glad that 700 students actually showed up to a game. On the other hand, I am actually embarrassed that they decided to announce such an unimpressive number, and expect it to spark some kind of celebratory outburst from the crowd.
  12. If a smaller or reduced seating capacity was even an option. you would see it in a renovated JAR, not in a brand new arena.
  13. Let me ask you the same question that I have asked other fellow fans, since you seem like someone who may have lowered their expectations substantially. If someone would have told you 4 years ago that Zeke would "develop" from a 6 ppg scorer to a 10 ppg scorer through the course of his career here, would you have been excited?
  14. I think that's pretty much been the pattern his entire career, where we see some good point totals against some OOC cupcakes, and then the excitement that he is "breaking out" levels back off again during the course of conference play. Although, it's still far too early to tell if that will repeat itself. I've just always been particularly critical of his inability to rebound on the offensive end, which certainly doesn't help is point totals.
  15. The problem is, nobody wants a bobblehead of Akron's largest donor, but they'll line up at the turnstiles for something that has to do with LeBron. LeBron is Akron's sport hero. And he's a national brand. Maybe the biggest athlete/celebrity in the county. Why wouldn't we take advantage of every opportunity we have to publicize and celebrate his connection to Akron basketball?
  16. Me too, and I've seen them several times. They were the beneficiary of something like 38 turnovers this year, the most in the nation. One can only wonder how many more losses they would have had without those gifts.
  17. That's what happens when a bunch of Can't State schmucks try to be trendy and act like they are Oregon or something. That was horrible. By the way, I thoroughly enjoyed that game. But I was disappointed that the Flushes caused enough chaos up front that they kept Arkansas State from putting together some of their normal point totals.
  18. Have you taken the time to see that Arkansas State has scored somewhere between the 30s and 50s in almost every game this year? As someone has pointed out, they have a Senior QB in his last game, who was Sun Belt POY, runs a high powered offense, and has broken tons of offensive production records.
  19. I see a team like this on the schedule, and I have flashbacks to Bethune Cookman taking us to Overtime during a holiday contest 2 years ago. I never want to see that happen again with a MEAC team. Zips by 18
  20. Very well said. I think some people really lose perspective of the situation here in 1985, and the enormous challenge that was ahead of us. It really is unbelievable to look back now and know that the first guy, and not the ones who followed him, was the most successful. That's why I don't understand some of the hammering on Gerry, and it has nothing to do with my feeling that he is a "good guy".
  21. I give you credit for at least acknowledging that he was the best. And please note that my comments are mostly directed at those who put this "worst ever" label on the guy. Are you kidding? You don't have to leave this area to find some really bad D-1A coaches over the last few decades, just at Akron and Ken+ alone. How soon we forget. We were the first program......ever.....to try to jump from I-AA to 1-A. Why don't you tell us how successful we were supposed to be? Gerry came here to take on the challenge with a roster of I-AA players, no facilities, no money, and the years it took for us to be allowed to catch up to the full I-A scholarship amounts of the teams we were competing against. And even with all of those deficiencies, he's been more successful than everyone who's followed him. Beyond that, Gerry did a lot for Akron with his name recognition and image. He's also is still probably the most famous and most successful high school coach in Ohio history. Is allowing him a few perks at basketball and football games really such a big problem for you?
  22. Exactly. That's why I can't understand the hammering on Faust. But, let me correct you on one thing. He didn't win "as many" games. He has a better winning percentage than anyone, including Brookhart. And WAY better than Owens.
  23. Correct. Which makes him the most successful coach in Akron's D-1A era. And he also still holds the record for the most successful single season mark in our D-1A era. And he did it with far less resources than anyone else who's coached us in our D-1A era. Sure. These are not impressive numbers. But, I have to keep pointing this out to the detractors who hammer on Faust without realizing that these were the most successful years of the last nearly 30 years of Zips football.
  24. Are you saying that you haven't heard of "A Moment With Jim Tressel", or whatever that one news station calls that show? I'm sure someone here has a clip. I'm liking your posts here, but please check your ego at the door. I don't always agree with you
  25. Outstanding Post. Let me add, have you seen the one news station in Cleveland that lets him do a segment every once in a while ?? Did you see the one where he talked about going back to Cowlumbus right before that embarrassing debacle where they carried him around on the field?? Lets face it. We are associating ourselves with probably the biggest current example of cheating in college athletics. So, I thought our timing was the biggest mistake. But now I simply question just what he is doing for the money we are paying him.
