  1. Sorry. I meant the coaches who followed him.
  2. These kinds of comments always amaze me. He has been the most successful coach in the 25 year history of D1-A football at Akron. And he did it with worse facilities and financial resources than his predecessors, a scholarship deficit vs. his competitors that lasted for years, and had to start the program with basically an entire roster of 1-AA players.
  3. One of the best documentaries on Faust is the one done by ESPN. You can find it in two parts on You Tube. It's very fair, and points out the disadvantages that he had going to Notre Dame right from high school. You know when someone writes an article in which they create the phrase "third losingest", they are intending to be as critical as possible.
  4. "5 steps ahead" would actually be a very bad memory. Go watch it again.
  5. Amen. Sunday is our chance to make up for losing in our house 2 years ago. It's also Zeke's chance to erase the memory of getting dunked on by a guard 2 years ago.
  6. Amen! Just one more thing about Zeke. I guess anyone can start throwing statistics around to document that there's been improvement. And some of it may well be simply due to increased playing time. But, "improvement" really is all a matter of expectations at this point. I just think that most people here would have to admit that they would have been VERY upset if someone had told them that Zeke would only "progress" during his 4 year career from a 6 ppg guy to an 11 ppg guy.
  7. But what about other opportunities off of missed shots? He had ONE offensive rebound !! That had to be one of the shortest teams we will play all year.
  8. I'll just throw this out there. Am I the only one who's disappointed to see that Zeke only had 4 field goals in a game, halfway through his senior year, against a bad 1-9 basketball team, who couldn't put anyone on the floor over 6'-7" tall?
  9. Let me add this.... For about 10 years, I felt like we were chasing Ken+. Now, I feel like we have spent another few years chasing OU. I think we've caught up with Ken+, winning multiple games in a row at one point a few years ago during the Romeo/Dru/Wood/Dials era. And right now, we're currently on a 4 game run. OU is a different story. I'm tired of being the chaser. But right now, I'm afraid that OU has the edge, especially with the tournament success and subsequent publicity that can easily be used as an asset on the recruiting trail in order to keep that edge for an extended period of time.
  10. Not many people like watching women's basketball. I don't think that's ever going to change. A big supporting fanbase only happens in very rare instances across the country, with teams that have a high level of national success. I wish it were different. It is what it is. I try to attend a women's game here and there, but honestly I just have a difficult time getting into the games.
  11. Here's the issue, especially for the older fans. We want the next step. Many of us probably get less patient as we get older. And we keep squandering opportunities, again, and again, and again. Watching the #15 team in the country beat us this badly, and start to clear their bench several minutes before the end of the game, can't possibly be viewed as a "no shame loss" if you're wanting to see us move forward as a program.
  12. That's it. For those waiting for halftime student contests, posters of Zeke Marshall's wingspan, and the continual mention of consecutive 20-win seasons to get people forming lines in front of the JAR, don't hold your breath. Knocking off recognizable programs and obtaining national rankings will bring more people. Just simply winning games isn't enough. Neither is being consistently in the mix in Cleveland in March. Maybe we don't need to "Think Bigger". We simply need to do the things within the program that will make us "Perform Bigger"
  13. Keep on keepin on Apparently, instead of watching an ex-Zips QB starting as a Junior in a D-1AA Conference championship game, you maybe would have preferred to watch your boy Patrick spend his Senior season splitting time at QB on a losing team at a little tiny college in Painesville, Ohio ? Like I always say, in the end, most athletes end up right where they ought to be. This seems to confirm the conclusions of both Ianello and Bowden too.
  14. Almost beat Pitt TWICE. In 1986 at the old Fitzgerald Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh (a game where we failed to block out defensively at the free throw line a couple of times in the last minute), and in 1987 in a thriller at the Richfield Coliseum. If I recall, that 1987 Pitt team was #2 when they showed up here. I still can't believe that the 1986 Cleveland State team wasn't ranked when we beat them at the JAR.
  15. Miracle seasons are great for story books, but unfortunately they are not a predictor of a coach's ability, or what they accomplish in their career. Just look at (insert hundreds of coaches names here), who had a great season at (insert college here) and was never heard from again. Forget about Auburn. Terry has done it with a wide range of programs. Hazell has been a college coach for a couple of years. Give it some time.
  16. It's too painful for me to think about how far our program has fallen in this relatively short period of time. One of the oddest facts about that 2005 MAC title team is that they lost 20-0 at home against Army in the middle of that season. I wonder how many people on here would have guessed that they would have won a MAC title just a few game later. I'm sure the answer was NOBODY.
  17. AS good ??? Bowden has a tremendous overall record, has made winners of multiple college programs, has only had a few years of losing records in his career, has had an undefeated D-1A season, and is a former D-1A national coach of the year. Hazell has been a college head coach for a couple of years. If you really want to even remotely compare these guys, wait about 20 years, and see if Hazell has done what Bowden has done.
  18. Again, there is no basketball strategy that calls for making an opponent "EARN" 3 points by fouling him IN THE ACT of shooting a 3-point jumper when you have a 3 point lead late in the game.
  19. Exactly. That was a dumb decision by one individual. And as far as I am concerned, Treadwell and Harney both showed a real lack of focus today. I also HOPED that we MIGHT get 3,000 for a game like this. That should have been a high enough quality opponent to get some attention. Disappointing.
  20. Exactly. That's the reality of major college football. The people who think that they should stay at their current school for another month or so, just to do the right thing, are not living in the real world.
  21. Someone needs to put this picture together in a collage with Porrini and the crying Ken+ cheerleader. I was very content when I woke up this morning, knowing the following: 1) Akron has a 2005 MAC Football Title 2) Ken+ still has NO MAC Football Title 3) We're on a 4-game winning streak against them in Basketball. Lets hope for the best that NIU gets to a good bowl game, and represents our conference well.
  22. How does Portage County keep getting so lucky? Two TDs off of fumble recoveries in one game? When they are getting dominated? Unbelievable.
  23. And contratry to Dave's theory, Ken+ has NO penalties at halftime
  24. Hey. All I am saying is that our biggest competitor and rival, on many levels, is possibly sitting on the cusp of doing something very historic, which could have a lasting impact. We benefit minimally from their accomplishment, if they get there. Does anyone really want that to happen? And believe me, I'm well aware that I have to root against the reward of a MAC team "bustin the BCS" in order to make sure that the above scenario doesn't happen.
  25. Why not? The man in the White House still does.
