  1. "I don't think that was classy, but good luck the rest of the year" I am happy that I heard rob say that to luke. I was so riled up that I would probably have started a fight with any jerk I saw out wearing OSU gear at the bars tonight. That blitzing and those deep throws in the fourth quarter were classless, but that's what we deal with standing behind a bad program playing on a saturday against classless cheating program corrupted by shitloads of money. I didn't see enough of the last part of the game, but if this is what was happening, I'm not surprised, considering the pompous history of our opponent today. That's normally always a courtesy between coaches that you don't do that kind of crap late in the game. And although I am not a big ICoach fan, I have so much disdain right now for OSWho's "we can do whatever we want" attitude that I would not be the least bit surprised if this is the way they were calling it. And if that's the way it looked, I would expect our coach to call him out on it. Hopefully we get our payback when the NCAA is done dealing with these liars and cheaters.
  2. Additions: 1) I hope this game was not an indication that we are STILL a poor tackling team. Far too many plays that were losses or short gains that turned into 8 yard pick ups. The play early where Bauser walked into the end zone dodging people with Bernie Kosar-esque grace was sickening. It'll be another long season for the defense if we still only have one guy who can tackle. 2) The offensive showing was way too similar to our trip down there 4 years ago. Almost nothing to feel good about except that there was not a ton of sacks, so protection seems improved. Although, we certainly have a more mobile QB, which helps eliminate the sacks. 3) No run blocking at all. Was Moore clearly our leading ground gainer? That's not gonna get us anywhere. 4) Just like the 2007 game, our punter played one whale of a game.
  3. History suggests otherwise. + 1,000,000
  4. Keep voting. It's turning into a laugher. Funny how "Ohio's Team" can't even get people in the Cleveland newspaper area to support them in a poll. That's why so many people are suggesting that the usual "Bandwagoners" won't be quite so plentiful this year.
  5. The dumb A$$es can't even figure out what your reference to "red and silver" means. I love how a few of them are pointing out that their yearly ranking of at least Top-10 is the longest in the country. They won't talk about their atrocious record against the SEC. They won't talk about their horrible record in recent years against Top-5 opponents. They'll never talk about their 60-something SOS ranking. And they won't talk about how they've won only one title in the last 43 years. But, they'll dig deep into college football facts to find one stat that puts them in a favorable light, and march in the streets to proclaim their superiority.
  6. Stop bringing up the SEC. Them there is fightin' words down there in Cowlumbus. Remember, despite the game results, those folks still think that they are as good as SEC teams.
  7. You're sort of a one issue candidate, aren't you? Johnny...you took the words right out of my mouth. Johnny....I like your "staying close to the vest" comment. I think that's been a huge factor in Akron being able to play a great game and stay close the last two times down there. The "Tressel System" has often been criticized for not being able to put people away. And that's always good news for us.
  8. I hope you're wrong, but with Temple's recent growth, you'd have to anticipate that they might be just as good as an OSWho team with a bunch of suspended players.
  9. Beating NC State on that last second Kennedy TD.........Without A Doubt!!!! Distant 2nd......Sittting at OSWho watching the Zips going into the locker room at halftime with a 3-2 score on the scoreboard, and watching 100,000 red and silver fans sitting there in utter shock.
  10. The Article: I love how an OSWho article mentions that Akron is the only MAC team to beat them The GoZips Game Notes: I sooo badly wanted to see them show OSWho's 2010 record as 0-13. Unless I missed it, it's not mentioned. What a great missed opportunity to rub a little dirt in their faces. And that may not be the only Zero win season they have, once the NCAA is done with them.
  11. I was at Barley House on sunday and I did see advertisements stating that they are the official place. After the soccer playoff games last December, I have a renewed faith in the Barley House. It's all up to us. If we can bring the AKRON people, I think they will cater to us. If there's 10 of us in there, and 500 people dressed in red and silver, what could we expect?
  12. Maybe the top 100 players in Ohio aren't all they are cracked up to be. A lot of them go to Big Ten schools, but the Big Ten is what it is. Let's just say schools from the north go south to recruit and not many in the south go north to recruit. I can't find the graphic, but espn ran it last weekend and it showed the nuber of kids from various regions in the Top 150. It was shocking how many from the southeast and Texas there were. Ohio only has two kids in the ESPN Top 150 and neither of them are in the top 50. One of them is around 137. With that said, I'm a skeptic of all of the various player rating "things" on the internet. We need to be getting the best players possible regardless of where they are from. Let me clarify. It wasn't an analysis about how many kids from Ohio were in the nation's top 100. It was the top 100 kids from Ohio, and where they landed. I was told that quite a few of them ended up at MAC schools, but NONE went to Akron. Did anyone else see this, or know about this? If it's true, that would be pretty disappointing.
  13. An 0-12 season immediately following a 1-11 season would pretty much unite everyone in believing that Ianello had his fair chance and couldn't deliver, and that the time had come to find a new head coach. Most reasonable people want to give Ianello a fair chance to prove himself, though we may differ on exactly how much time is fair and exactly how much progress we need to see in his second season. Someone would have to be an even bigger extremist than you, Zach, to support bringing back a 1-23 coach for a third season, and I don't believe that's humanly possible. Maybe I'm somewhere in the middle, although I clearly understand Zach's frustration. I desperately want to give the guy a chance. I just don't like what I'm seeing and hearing. The Latest: Someone told me that a recruiting analysis reported that we didn't get any of the Top 100 high school players in Ohio this year? And several other MAC schools got several of them? Can anyone verify if this is true? If so, I'm not too excited about having this so-called "recruiting guru" on board.
  14. Craig, I'm hanging my hopes on the results of the last two games as well. I hope that we can again go down there and leave everything on the field again, and stay in the game well into the 2nd half.
  15. I'll register on bucknuts under any name you want, if we can pull off this win. By the way, I'll never forget Magrell's first game that year. It was nothing short of magical. Lets hope for the same on Saturday.
  16. No kidding. It certainly dims the excitement, but it's nothing like the depression we'll feel if they make us a major underdog the following week against a team in our own crappy conference. That's when we'll really know how far we've fallen.
  17. The biggest issue with me is that money is dictating who wins titles. For Akron to compete, we need someone out there putting the thumb down on the big money schools. If the NCAA has lost control, and it means creating a new regulatory body, then I'm OK with that. In the meantime, we need all the help we can get. And the hammer they are putting down on those jokers down at OSWho should be the greatest and most welcome news we can get as Zips fans. People will argue that the NCAA regulations are too complex, and there are too many rules. Which may be true. But if you are an Akron fan, you should be thrilled and be asking for more of the same. We've shown our ability to have some success with little resources by winning the EM Cup. But, until someone stops schools from virtually BUYING titles, we'll always be on the outside looking in. Becoming a Boise or a Butler is a very, very difficult task. It's a perfect scenario of the right people and players coming together at the right time. And obviously it can be done, but with 100+ football programs and 200+ basketball programs all striving for that same improbable rise, it's always going to take a very magical set of circumstances to make it happen.
  18. Fewer wins in the short term in exchange for more wins in the long term? I'll take that tradeoff any day, especially when the starting point of the short run is pretty low to begin with. I'd call that a reasonable strategy as opposed to a personal agenda. If the plan works. If not, then you'll lose both short term and long term. I had a bad feeling about Owens right from the start, and feel the same way about ICoach, and I hope I'm wrong this time. Unfortunately, I know plenty of other knowledgable sports people who feel the same way.
  19. If coaches all thought that winning every single individual game right out of the gate was the #1 priority, they wouldn't change systems, cut players they don't like, etc., after they take over a program. But most of them do it. I think some of what Zach is saying might be a little over the top, but some of you would be incredibly naive to think that coaches don't have a personal agenda that might result in fewer wins in the short term.
  20. Akron Football: I'll be nice and just ask this in the form of a question. What "leading by example" might you be referrring to? The lack of victories? The #114 QB rating? The approx. 150 yards per game passing average? The 49% completion percentage? Please take your pick. Oftentimes, athletes are said to "lead by example" because they quietly excel, their teamates rally behind them because they know they will get the job done, and/or people feel that their performance should do the talking for them. So I have to ask you. If you believe he was indeed "leading by example", please point out the accomplishments over the last two years that should lead us to labeling him with that distinction.
  21. His resume? I'd love to hear the interview... HR Department: "So Jim, tell me why you are looking for a new job." Tressel: "I had to resign in disgrace from my previous employer. I'm laughing all the way to the bank though." HR Department: "Tell me about a time when you had a difficult decision to make and how you handled it." Tressel: "I was well aware some of my players were breaking NCAA rules with a drug dealer under investigation by the Federal Government. I had to decide whether it was more important to win games or tell the University compliance officer about it and having my key player suspended. After a lot of praying, I decided to pretend like I didn't know about it and lied to my employer about it. It was a very tough decision. Did I tell you we won the Sugar Bowl?" I could go on all day..... The strange thing is, in every business under the sun, with the exception of athletics, a guy like Tressel would never get another job. In the world of athletics, he will have his pick of scouting and coaching jobs in the NFL. Beautiful !!!!!!
  22. My first time to post on the board as a ZIP alum. I have been reading and see how everyone was so quick to bash NICELY. I feel for the kid. Cant imagine HOW you can play for a bumbling idiot like IANELLO. I hated those youtube camp practice interviews. Looks Like Coach I is trying to make PN his skapegoat. I was at several of the games last season. PN got so abused. NO protection,,he took some huge hits and always got up. Hes an athlete , and showed his leadership skills by his never giving up and always fighting. I NEVER saw him throw a helmet down or cuss on the sidelines like MANY college and pro qbs do when things go bad. Always kept his composure. Thank you PN7. Your a class act and great role model for my kids. I was at the Spring Game. CM didnt impress me much. AT 6'1 I think The Lone Ranger is going to need his HORSE to be able to see over that OSU Defense. Its not Mississippi Juco Football. I hope the best for my ZIPS this season but the QB was NOT the problem last season,,however its an easy person to blame. It starts at the TOP..and thats COACH I. Not that Ianello is an idiot. Thats not fair. I was actually hoping that Nicely would at least get to start the first couple of games to see if a year in Ianello's system helped him improve. Coaches should be able to help improve a player's performance. I think he deserved that since it seems that none of the other QB's appeared to perform significantly better during the 'pre-season'. A 'suit' from the athletic department told me at the practice last Saturday that Moore would likely be named the starter mainly because Ianello recruited him. Who knows? Sets up an interesting dynamic if Moore for some reason doesn't work out in his first year in the system. Again, this might be a huge understatement, but our current situation likely leaves us with nothing to lose. And as a few people mentioned, at the very least, it's defnitely done something to rejuvenate fan interest. I was getting phone calls almost immediately after that announcement was made. That would have never happened if we were simply going to "stay the course".
  23. Love them! As long as we stick with GOLD and DO NOT go to YELLOW I am fine with whatever they do. (I am, though a big fan of the gold helmet. I would hope any change would try to retain a mostly gold helmet.) No yellow!!! Blue & GOLD. Go Zips! Never again on that Yellow....please. Those freaks over at Ken+ can have it all they want. Dr. Z......was that an ACTION A or a MOVING A. I seem to recall that being called the latter.
  24. Insults...it goes without saying. OSWho bashing?....were Zips fans. How do you think it would go over if you went to a Duke site and asked them to stop cutting on UNC?
  25. There ARE people here who talk to the players. Some of us have classes with them; some of us are fellow students who do them same things as them on campus. Sorry you weren't so popular. I agreed with NotSoOldZip at some level in his observation that some people on here claim to be know-it-alls. But, that's not a reason to put an umbrella over everyone here and say that they don't know what they are talking about. Some people have better connections in different sports than others. Some people know certain individuals involved in Akron athletics that others don't know. And they come here to share it, and it's very valuable to me as a Zips fan. And I do believe that most people here are simply just interested in exchanging information and/or sharing their individual expertise, and are not using this forum to boost their own egos by somehow trying to prove that they are the supreme, all-knowing Zips fan.
