  1. guess someone didn't like my comment about harvey, i don't see it...lets say this, coaches need to be judges of character..unfortunately most are not trained to recognize character flaws...i'm tired of self-centered jocks who have no concept of responsibility and no concept of the world beyond their own self centerdness...ya it was neat seeing harvey perform LAST YEAR...where are you now mr. harvey...think he gave one flying .... about anybody else? obviously not...hope he hooks up at some JC somewhere...JD needs to look at character of his recruits..needless to say mr. harvey will not help JD get his next job!!!
  2. HATE TO SAY I TOLD YA SO...BUT I DID...HARVEY IS A LOWLIFE
  3. i watched Ellet football for 3 years when Keppler was playing...a couple of things about Ellet...Yost is a coach who demands discipline from his players...unfortunately he can not always get the best players due to the open enrollment policies within the city...at the high school level Yost is a coach who gets THE MOST out of limited raw talent...ithink Keppler is a product of the system...a very close friend of mine had a son who played and started for Ellet for 2 years..the kid busted his guts...and played well...he is struggling at the DIII level however...not sure if you throw a scholarship at a kid who played against mostly well below average competition and did not really do anything 'off the charts'...if JD is really looking for talent potential at either the QB or LB position he can get kids who played better at a higher level...
  4. interesting that ANYONE has the time to rate'non-BCS' coaches...talk about a meaningless obscure 'statistic'!!!...Look JD has brought some visibilty to the program...he has taken some huge chances when it comes to recruiting...can you say mickey baker, david harvey etc...he has brought in some people who were generally more talented than we were used to seeing...BIGSY,Getsy,Kennedy...now, what he has not done YET is beat the MAC consistently...frankly it doesn't matter how they play against the OSU's, PSU's....he needs to show he can assemble a TEAM that can win against the BEST MAC teams...not just Buffalo etc etc...this is the year we will find out how good OL JD really is...there are some holes but there is enough talent that with GOOD coaching that they should be competing to win the east division...
  5. and so it goes...
  6. uakronkid, not necessarily defending the athletic dept. but i sent them a nastygram a month or so ago...i actually got 2 responses....1 allegedly from the AD hisself...someone is watching...but i do agree after watching ZIPS football since the 60's...not many people care a lot...and this place seems to be either a graveyard or a place for someone to jump off to something better...most locals will NEVER show up consistently...tooo much high school...too much LUCKEYES,too much Browns...GO ZIPS
  7. HELL, go up the night before get a room and make it a weekend...take your 'significant other' spend some geetus...is the Tribe at home???
  8. park across the street and go inside and have beer if ya think parking is too expensive..hell i've been parking on the side street across from the Bowl where th horse barn used to be...i've bought my season tickets for 10+ years...they get my money....
  9. How many of you think Charley would have been 'better' had he not played at all in "real' games for at least a year, maybe longer...would he have looked better behind a better line? we will never know..Charley was Savage's pick..Savage has now abandoned him...unfortunately for Charley the only NFL track record is what is there now...that's how he will be judged...he got screwed because he went to a team that did not have a coach who could coach young QB's...here's hoping he lands with a team that has a good QB coach or an offensive minded coach, like Shanahan in Denver...then he'll get a fair shot...
  10. good points made by all...however,Charley will never be judged based on what could have been had he had more quality material around him...i'm still not convinced the Clowns won't try to bring in an experienced QB this year to be a caddie for 'the mighty quinn'...Culpepper may become available because its real possible the reason the Fish passed on quinn was because they are going to get T.Green...allegedly they have a handshake on a contract...waiting for KC to give the OK...if that happens Charley goes elsewhere and quinn soaks up the NFL atmosphere for a while...but if no other QB is brought in quinn WILL play soon...the Clowns basically spent 2 #1"s on him...he will not sit behind Charley...
  11. how many ya think they'll get? i ordered mine already...so...
  12. you wanna put a FEW more backsides in the BOWL? stop starting the season 0-4 or 1-3...look even when i was watching decent Akron teams in the 60's and 70's they didn't draw all that many except for the good old Acme Zip game when they always had 30,000+...i don't care how many times you play OSU,PSU,IU...etc,etc on the road and lose...except for us and a few others that only turns people off...always has around here because people don't see the ZIPS as consistently playing for anything meaningful...if you want to be 0-4 or 1-3 to start the season just to make money, go for it...but don't expect anyone around here to pay attention...they'll watch a high school game on Friday night, watch the Bucks on Saturday and the Browns on SUNDAY...its a shame but thats the way its always been in akron...no matter bring on ARMY!
  13. a few weeks ago i sent an e-mail directly to the AD's office and the ticket office...to their credit i got a response..but i was complaining about the scheduling and the new stadim etc...the bottom line..MONEY..doesn't matter to the AD that the players are getting the shit kicked out of them at OSU or Indiana..they are getting a big pay check to help pay off the new stadium...when i asked if season ticket holders would get consideration at the new place the response first DONORS then season ticket holders...don't expect to get a seat at the new place unless you have lots of money...
  14. when i refer to cj i mean chris not carlton...i saw nothing Sunday that and i am looking at someone else to be a leader..Getsy did not become a leader tht all the team respected last year..CHARLIE was...Brookhart has allowed himself to be the focus and nobody on the field has taken charge...wake up jd..
  15. dang, some of you guys are almost as old as me...there was a place called LIlNIKS which was in the building which was just west of where the old mickey d's used to be...brother of a guy i worked with at Juvenile Court ran it...hole in the wall but it was great...there was aTokyo Shapiro electronics store right next to it for a while..we could walk into mickey d's parking lot, puke and then get a cheap big mac...ummmm
  16. i hope the ability of the wideouts improves with the mending of Arthur and Lindsay cause those guys were not getting open on Sunday...you're that stupid rollout punt is just that...stupid...hell they don't have anyone who can punt consistently from the deep formation...who is going to be the place kicker? hard to tell if either Igor or Matt is ahead...the QB's?...i still get bad vibes with Jackson on the field...is he a leader?
  17. anybody have any strong reactions to the spring game...hard to tell if the offense was that bad or the defense was that good...o-line loked a little disorganized...the two real new guys Sekinger and Estrada still need work...the runners looked OK...no Alex Allen though...the OB's?...if thats the game and the attitude we are going to get from Jackson lets move on to someone else...if they played tomorrow CJ is the starter...anyone else?
  18. what no david harvey sitings?... i think the o line will be ok...i want to see the QB's and the rb's as well as the d-line...i want to see c.jackson play to see if he can handle the pressure of being the starter with the target on HIS back...this will either be a real big year or another bust...little in between...
  19. folks...i fear Charlie's days in ctown are numbered...obviously Savage has had a change of heart about his abilities...Charlie was Phil's pick not Romeo's...its fish or cut bait time on the lake and Phil and Romeo want to keep their jobs...whether or not the o'line was any good Charlie never 'jumped off the page' with anything he did...he is too much of a project at that level...the Browns don't have that kind of time...
  20. i was looking at the draft prospects on one of the thousands that have mock drafts/ratings...alleman was wearing a pitt uny in the picture..have not seen him in a Uof A jersey... where is it?
  21. sorry GP!..not painting all the players with a broad brush here but i work in a lets say 'business' where i get paid to watch behavior...some folks make good decisions based on their circumstances...some make decisions based on only their own impulses and emotions...no we all do not know exactly whats up with harvey...but do you jeopardize what he had in front of him based on your lack of self control and bad judgement? i hope its not a 'fatal' thing....but...
  22. Captain Kangaroo,thanks...if Harvey was MIA for a 'legit' reason the school would say that...we all know it...take IGOR for example...nobody in the AD talks about his arrest only his 'back injury'...if you watched Harvey closely last year you saw the chinks in the armor...i said it last year...when a freshman 'takes plays off' during the game there is something wrong...think Dom Hixon would have done that?
  23. charlie suffered from the same disease that bagged tim couch...being a brown...the browns need to get trent green, let charlie recover, build the o line then give charlie a shot...if he doesn't make it then...so be it...
  24. gang, don't count on seeing harvey again,,,this is a guy who,if thinking correctly would do nothing to jeopardize his football future...obviously the character flaws become obvious with people who are required to be responsible and who are not capable...stop dismissing some of this stupidity on the part of college athletes as 'youthful transgression' we have all been there... we didn't throw away opportunities like harvey had on 'youthful transgressions'...i fear there may be more of jd's recruits who go this route
  25. casey estrada...they didn't bring in a JUCO to sit on the bench...what's up with him?
