I've had the pleasure of getting to know Vincent over the last two years. He has sat next to me at nearly every home men's basketball game for the last two seasons and I always look forward to seeing his stories in the Buchtelite. Vincent has a knack for not only covering the game but also the emotional and personal side of the players. If every student at UA worked as hard to excel and overcome obstacles as Vincent, every student would graduate with honors in three years.Great article Vincent. I hope to see you next week at the JAR for the exhibition game with Walsh.

Two pictures of the white steel beam being lifted into position at this afternoon's ceremony. American flag was on one end. The traditional spruce tree on the other end.

G-Mann17 said: "I think that they will done with the majority of the steel on the press/loge tower this week."You are correct. Welty and UA have scheduled the topping out ceremony for tomorrow (Tuesday 10/21/2008) at 2 PM.

It's a little too early for me to get into the "role playing" guesstimate game. With so many new faces, I thnk I'll wait until well after the 17th to start placing people in slots. I think the most interesting thing between now and the start of league play is how the coaches will develop the new players. The amount of teaching needed with 8 players in their first pre-season camp is something most D1 coaches never face. Before any redshirt decisions or injuries we have 9 players coming into their first year of eligibility. The raw talent is the best I have ever seen in Memorial Hall or the JAR. Youth and raw talent. An exiting but at times frustrating mixture.

I totally disagree with the premise that the creative marketing done by UA in the last five years is a failure. Record enrollment increases for the last 3 years.Donations at record levels.UA getting more press coverage than it has had in prior years. The alumni magazine is the best it has even been. The communication of the "Landscape for Learning" has in my opinion been the best creative media production ever used by UA.Is it perfect? No. But it is the best of the universities in Ohio.

Dante Love Undergoes Spinal Surgery as reported by Dave Ruthenberg at macreportonline.com on SundayCardinal's wide receiver Dante Love suffered a "cervical spine fracture and spinal cord injury that required surgery to stabilize the fracture" according to a statement released through Ball State University by Dr. Jay Matchett, the team's physician and orthopedic surgeon.Matchett also indicated that Love is "currently moving all four extremities." Love, who was the nation's leading pass receiver entering the Cardinals' contest against Indiana Saturday night, was injured early in the second quarter after catching a two-yard pass from Nate Davis when he was hit by Hoosiers' cornerback Chris Adkins. Love fumbled the ball after the hit and Indiana's Nick Polk returned the fumble for a touchdown. Ball State went on to win the contest, 42-20. Following the hit Love was attended to by medical staff as players from both sides knelt in prayer. Medical personnel immobilized Love, removed his facemask and placed him on a backboard before transferring him on a cart to a waiting ambulance. Love was seen talking with medical personnel as he was placed in the ambulance. "We were told the surgery went well," said Ball State head coach Brady Hoke through the school's official statement. "Sunday morning Dante was alert and extremely tired. His attitude and spirits are good and we are praying for him right now." School officials indicated that surgery lasted approximately five hours.

I hadn't walked by the contruction site since early last week and was surprised how fast the masonry workers are going vertical on the west stands. It is hard to see in camera one but they have set concrete block up past the height of the steel on the fifth floor. Today they are laying cement block towards the sixth floor. It looks like a stairwell or elevator shaft from a distance. You can barely see it on the very right edge of camera one. They have a seperate smaller blue crane to left the materials up to that height.

I stole this picture of the scoreboard construction from the flush's message board. Amazing how we share all the same sponsors except for Pepsi/Coke.Do you think Laing Kennedy would have started this project if UA had not started Infocision Stadium?

Hey Zipwatcher.......Add some more fuel to the fire!

Sorry, its real paint on wood. But a C-USA logo could be painted on top of it easily!
-
I like the new MAC logo in the UA colors. The JAR floor was refinished about 6 weeks ago. The key area was lightened and the new logo added. The floor is now two tone. Same wood just a lighter color in the lane. They also added the new men's 3 point line.

Back when the stadium site was just a rumor there were plenty of postings on this board begging UA to buy the "Plasma" building at the southwest corner of Exchange and Brown Sts. Anybody want to guess what that building would go for today?
-
For all of you stadium cam junkies who are going through withdrawl pains. Here is your daily fix.1st picture taken from the center of the Lee Jackson Track2nd picture isfrom Union Street in front of the entrance to the Stiles Field House looking southFirst view of the "Outdoor Living Room" construction. Picture taken from behind Memorial Hall.Sorry for the quality issues. I only had my cell cam.
-
The camera problem is not a storm or technical issue. They are just adjusting camers 1 & 2 and installing camera 3 in a new location. The picture below is a crew mounting a third camera (probably the one from the Exchange St telephone pole) on the field house. Picture taken just after noon on 6/24/08.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080609/bs_nm/apple_dc_11Headline sort of grabs your attention."It's amazingly zippy," Jobs said, showing off the encore to a device that melds a mobile phone, iPod media player and Web browser, nearly a year after the original went on sale.

This picture was taken on Wednesday, April 16th around 11am. The pile is much smaller today (Friday) but you still can not see the basement floor.
