Best match-up: Testudo vs Cocky! You can't make this stuff up!

McSweich ("McSwick") has a nice ring to it...And when Cvetinovic gets in, he can be "McNik"...And we could probably get away with calling Humpty "McQuick"...As we identify our steals leaders, they can be the Hamburglars...OK, that might be pushing it...

Don't you just know it will be the Buckeye Brewing Company...

VCU will be very tough at their place. How much did Dayton lose that you would deem them an easy game?

Shirley: Hey John, you wanna go see the Zips play tonight?John: How much are the tickets?Shirley: $7 each.John: Nah, I don't think so.Shirley: Oh wait, that was the kids price. Adult tickets are $12.John: Really? Well, I still don't think so.Shirley: Oh, I'm such an idiot, that was the senior price. Regular adult prices are $20 per ticket.John: Get your purse. All I'm saying is, keep it in balance. By all means, take advantage of your selling point. But if I'm trying to beat my best time in a 5K, I'll probably pass on the ankle weights during the race.

I think I'd actually sell out at least one game before I started putting up barriers to people coming. Get people in the door, ideally with their kids so they can see they can have fun, then once you don't have the room start charging. At the concession stand prices, a hot dog, popcorn and drink cover the ticket anyway, and maybe they buy merchandise along with it.It's the same thing I look at with basketball. At the same time they want to double their season ticket holders, they don't let you buy season tickets unless you pay the extra "donation" for each ticket. Meanwhile we draw 2,500. I went to every home game last year but didn't buy season tickets because I didn't have to. (Exception--I bought the 4-gamers to ensure I had a K-ent ticket--when I'm at risk of not getting in, I'll pay it.) You can call me cheap if you want, but you're talking about trying to get people in the door and putting up barriers to them doing so at the same time.Get butts in the door and get people addicted. Then, when the seats are actually hard to get (i.e., in demand), tack on the extra charge or up the price.

I cannot tell you how valuable it is to know that an unnamed school may play us on an unspecified date (barring an unforeseen circumstance, of course).

The link I had to that video now says that the video has been removed by the user. Not sure why...

Isn't this like saying, "nice bathroom stall...but no door"?If you put it that way, it sounds like the salad was likely served in a Rubber Bowl...

Not the best pics, but gives you an idea of his size...Excellent mobility for a 7-footer, and had fun the whole time he was out there.

Lots of people screamed bloody murder about the Can't men's program and how they should be disciplined harder and thrown off the team for some of the things that they've done. They talked about what a pathetic program it was bringing in all these people who couldn't behave and not disciplining them properly. Now it's the Akron's women's program laying down discipline like many people screamed ought to happen in these situations, and now the coach is destroying the program. May I please have my cake and eat it too?If the coach is throwing people off the team, they deserved it. When I have to let someone go at work, it's the absolute last thing I ever want to do, and it often hurts those who are left behind, but ultimately if it gets that far those people have earned their pink slip.

Someone put the last minute of the Akron-Can't game on YouTube. Not sure if this link will work:Click MeIf not, search YouTube for the following: UAkron vs damn Can't State 09Mar08 . Obviously, when you do the search, change Can't to the correct spelling.

How can The player who leads the league in floor burns not be Linhart? He's on the floor every five seconds!
-
I haven't studied our offense in depth (other than to know it's one of two plays--either set a bunch of picks at the point by our big men, or dribble around for 25 seconds then fire a 3) but one thing I've noticed is that we never have anyone around the basket when we launch our shots. The offenses seem to pull everyone, including our big men, so far away from the hoop that when we do miss, we're totally out of position to get an offensive board.I'm in KD's camp when it comes to defense. Defense first, and build off of that.

Of course it's awesome when it's our guy doing it. But Bubba got lambasted back in January on this board for acknowledging the Rowdies. W00t posted an hour ago on the Bubba thread "Every time he looked at the Zips bench after scoring last night just like when he yelled at the Rowdies at the JAR drove the point home that we were in his head... " We all lambasted Ham-and-Cheese for yelling "checkmate" after the first K-ent game. To me, let the Rowdies give the O sign to the OU students. Dials should just go off the floor. You want a picture of Dials giving the student section the "O" posted in OU's locker room before we meet them in the MAC championship?

Anybody know how Zippy Passes work for sell outs? Do we have to leave the kids outside and pick them up after the game?

Not sure really how to interpret this article. They have Texas listed in the Moving Down the Bubble portion. How is this when Texas is ranked 5th (prior to their recent loss to TT)? Even in their own article, they have Texas as a 2 Seed. They're nowhere near the bubble. We probably aren't either. It is nice to see Can't's bubble bursting, though.

Fantastic Opportunity for the Zips!!!
BirdZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Captain, let me borrow that stick for a second. Assuming that Can't is still ranked when we play them, our schedule this year would have included the following:Two games against Top 25 teams (One we took to @OT, and the other we should beat--we'll see). Two games against recognized strong mid-majors (VCU and Winthrop). One game against a highly recognizable name team (Temple).I liked our schedule this year. We just didn't win the games we needed to win.If we beat Can't on the 9th and beat them again in the tourney, would they get an at-large then? -
From what I see sitting in the upper endzone, you can tell if a 3-pointer is going in as they take the shots. Our guys have a big problem squaring up to the basket. In the second half, Linhart airballed one to the right of the rim. You could have called it because as he was shooting he was facing that direction slightly and falling slightly right. I think it was Dials who also had an airball similarly.I know it's not that simple and a lot of that is because we often shoot so quickly off of a screen, but many of those shots are falling sideways or, at a minimum, not square, and htose are the ones that don't go in. Fundamentals are fundamentals for a reason.I couldn't there until the second half, but from what I saw VCU had a smothering defense and Sanders (?) was just damn good. Once he blocked so many in the beginning, it changed all of our shots. Near the end of the game I saw Jeremiah pass up a straight lay-up, make a move, and do one of his sideways shots. THat shotblocking got in our heads and that's why we missed a lot of our bunnies. We're expecting to get fouled/blocked and changing the shot because of it. How many breakaway layups have we missed this year because we're trying to draw the foul instead of just shooting the lay-up?
