Not to defend them, but I believe Dials is closing in on 1000 points as a Zip.

I don't get ONN, so I'm going on what French says. He said it was Cedrick with the dunk as well. Which was it?EDIT: I believe French has now corrected himself on that one. Must have been a confusing call.

Back to the Miami game...Rowdies, if i read ESPN correctly, Cedrick now sits at 997 career points at Akron. When he passes 1000, make sure he knows we know it. ZN--> <--Ced

Wood to Return Saturday for Bracketbuster
BirdZip replied to FearTheRoo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
It's always nice to see someone pat themselves on the back, but you were clearly talking about some guy named Woods, not Wood. -
Gamewatcher stats say we're down 24-15 on rebounds.

CK, you got inside dirt on that start time?Everything seems to point to an 11am ESPN2 game. But, that's just my guess.ESPN appears to have the start time listed as 1:00 PM on their Akron Team page. I hope that's right, because I can't make an 11:00 start that day.Link, see schedule in upper left

Andy Glockner's latest Bubble Watch column has three MAC teams listed as possible at large bids...Click Here for ESPN ArticleSome snippets...The MAC East champ could claim the league's first at-large bid in what seems like 20 years....Other At-Large ContendersTeams that should be in: Saint Mary's, GonzagaWork left to do: UNLV, South Alabama, Brigham Young, Can't State, Ohio, Illinois State, Creighton, George Mason, Virginia Commonwealth, San Diego State, Davidson, Houston, Akron, UAB, Utah State...Can't State [17-5 (6-2), RPI: 47, SOS: 131] Can't can't afford many more surprising losses like the one to Toledo this weekend. That cost the Golden flushes sole possession of the MAC East lead. Wins over Illinois State and George Mason could come in handy in head-to-head bubble comparisons.Ohio [15-6 (6-2), RPI: 49, SOS: 133] Quietly, the Bobcats have won five straight and are tied with Can't State and Akron atop the MAC East. This really could be the year the MAC gets an at-large, but you'd better win your division to have a real claim. The Bobcats beat Maryland and St. John's on the road as part of a huge slate of nonconference away games, but they could have too many losses to overcome. The RPI/SOS combo is still marginal for an at-large.Akron [16-5 (6-2), RPI: 73, SOS: 213] The Zips are tied with Can't State and Ohio atop the MAC East, but their profile is way worse than that of either of those two, meaning a division title likely is imperative. The last two games of the regular season are at Ohio and home to Can't State, which could be for all the marbles. The Zips have some winnable games on tap, so expect them to stay in the mix.VCU [16-5 (9-2), RPI: 57, SOS: 166] The Rams remain the CAA leader, which is a good place to be. The RPI still isn't great, but winning this league should mean something, even in a slightly down year. Nonleague wins over Houston and Maryland aren't bad, but a loss to MEAC favorite Hampton won't help. It's a shame the Rams don't get a home chance against George Mason. That should be remembered in case of a league tiebreaker.

A college basketball career is four years. Your professional career is likely going to be closer to 40. We're 21 games into a 30 game season. So, if you got promoted when your predecessor retired, and 6 years later your boss is still telling you how much he misses your predecessor because of what he brought that he simply doesn't have now, you'd take that as motivation and consider your boss to be brilliant?I think KD is an excellent coach, but this is one area where I agree with Zipbox.

What a fantastic draw for Can't. If you're dumb enough to be a Can't fan, you have to be happy with that opponent.VCU looks like a nice opponent too for us. I think we made out pretty well considering our recent two-game slide.

Goddard can hit some amazing three's from some improbable locations, and I admit I yell "money" when he nails one, but is he really money, or are we all just fooled by his range?College career 3-Point Shooting Percentages...Dials = 39.7%Goddard = 38.8%Middleton = 38.1%McNees = 37.5%Linhart = 37.1%Blame it on Goddard having to come in cold and not get enough minutes?Darrell Roberts = 62.5%B McKnight = 50%One last fun one:Jeremiah Wood = 100% (1 for 1)

I see Can't as #7 in the mid-major polls. I think we're lucky to be at 10 after the 2 straight losses. Can't is understandable, CMU is unforgivable. I think the voters cut us some slack there.

You should also note that Cedrick sits at 967 and Jeremiah at 992.

Went to see Alex Sullivan last night when Riverside played Chardon. He was clearly the best player and athlete on the court. He struggled some in the first half. It seemed like when he made a good move off the dribble he couldn't finish it off with the shot, and when he didn't have to dribble, he could make the shot. He also struggled from the line. He still managed 14 points. The second half was a different story. He came out more ready to play and made several excellent passes after some tough drives. He scored 20 in the second half to finsih with 34. Pretty impressive considering they were very focused on him. He was playing the 2 guard and it seemed like that was what fit him best--I don't know that you'd rely on him for the point--I wouldn't--but you'd be comfortable with him in a Cedrick-type role. I didn't see much defense out of him, but no-one really seemed to play defense yesterday. Didn't get many pictures, but here are a few...This was my first high school basketball game in years. Some random notes on that:Popcorn was 75 cents. Same size as $3.00 at the JAR.The fans were rabid, and every one was convinced that the refs were ripping off their team. It's kind of funny--every fan, at every level, is convinced there's a conspiracy against them. The students laid down a BULLSH*T chant near the end of the game. Nice and loud and in unison. The best part of the night--the warm up shirts for Riverside had "FEAR THE BEAVER" on the back. Classic!

I guess the charade is over.

If Can't beats both Miami and Ohio on the road, I'll say that they deserve to be ahead of us.I like our being ranked 6th this week. Does anybody remember the highest we were ranked last year?I thought the highest we got last year was 11. Not sure though.

Yeah, you're right pal. There's no real market for women's basketball in this country. Just ask Pat Summitt. For 99.9% of the country, the only way a womens BBall game would outdraw a hai lai match in person or on television is if the cheerleaders were naked and giving away beer in the stands.I vote that Zipmeister be hired immediately as head of Marketing.

I thought it was a good showing by the Rowdies. The south section was full (I can't see the north from where I sit). The Rowdies had Rally Towels going which I thought was a nice touch (and finally a decent disctraction to the opponent's free-throw shooters).

You people amaze me. Your team just took the #20 team in the nation to double overtime and you're basically calling them losers. There were several players on this team that had outstanding games tonight. Granted, the last second plays were not good (they never seem to be), but Akron played a hell of a game.

Not a good shot...

Wood is a flippin' BEAST!

It took the Giants a while to use him, but he seemed to do well in the game last night. 8 returns for 221 yards, including a 74-yard return for a TD.Domenik Hixon Photo after TD

Nice to see an article on Akron on ESPN.com, even if it was hidden away. Hopefully this link works...Akron on ESPN.com
