  1. Well, that just about sums it up for me. Any thoughts?
  2. God, this just proves everything I have ever said about most high school coaches. They have no clue what makes a Division I player or what it is like to be involved in Division I sports. Even Cant wasn't stupid enough to give these players scholarships. Owens was a high school coach and we had below average teams most of his time here. Let's start with Brown's comments. If Akron is recruiting a player who signs with ODU and Edinboro, Brookhart is at fault for recruiting less than Division I players. Enough said, Brookhart made the right decision. Secondly, a kid that runs a 4.7 or 4.8 fourty yard dash will get eaten alive in Division I as a cornerback. Basic skills are necessary for any job. This kid didn't even have the basic skill to compete at U of A. Enough said, Brookhart made the right decision. Thirdly, these idiot high school coaches need to understand that Akron is not running a charity with the football program. The purpose of the program is to win football games with whatever players they need to win within the rules of the NCAA. The purpose of the program is NOT to give free scholarships to local players because they think the community owes them something. We saw enough of this type of behavior with Owens. What did that get us......nothing. Good players don't need to come from Summit or Stark County. Let me name a few players. Frye, Biggs, Jason Taylor, Dwight Smith, Jake S., Butchie Washington, Brake, Payne. None of these players were from either Summit or Stark County. Finally, this article begs the question: What made Morgan write the article? Either one or more of the coaches quoted in the article called him to complain or he wrote the article to try to stick it in the eye of U of A. My guess is that it is the second choice. For whatever reason, the Beacon has a hard on for U of A football since they fired that loser Owens. My guess is that it is that sneaky prick Pluto leading the charge. All they want is loveable losers in Akron. That way they can write their feel good stories about the good guys who are trying their best but can't get over the hump. Wouldn't it be more fun to write about a winning football program? As a fan, what do you want, loveable losers or winners? If you say anything but a winner, you yourself are a loser, or a former Owens player......they are actually one in the same. Don't worry about articles like this. JD knows what he is doing and the program is going in the right direction. JD's staff knows how to scout and recruit players without relying on the high school coaches for advice or help from these huge ego high school coaches who should just worry about football in the fall and teaching whatever classes they teach the remainder of the year. Good grief, we have the highest rated class in the MAC. Losing that dwarf to Can't will do nothing to hurt the program. When Akron has a winning program, these high school coaches will be crawling on their hands and knees to get players signed with Akron. Well, off to a cocktail party ............have fun at the BB game Wednesday. My plane gets in too late to go. GO ZIPS!!!!!! Nice post. 4.7 and a cornerback?! I thought the kid was a d lineman. What a bunch of idiots.
  3. Per gozips.com, Bowling Green is moving to the east next year...so much for next year. Hopefully they will come to play in the bowl next year. I'll get to see another great MAC qb play I guess.
  4. Like it's our fault if these kids are choosing schools like Toledo or Pitt over Akron. I'm sure there are many of these players we would have loved to have. We've raised the bar in recruiting, and we will not settle for the scraps of the BCS schools. If these coaches want their kids going to Akron, they better see that their kids raise the bar because we have.
  5. Who is Niagara?
  6. This is starting to become a trend.
  7. That is where losing Wood is really going to hurt us. We have to start making a better showing on the road because this is not going to cut it. Miami had us beat in every way, inside and outside the perimeter. As good as we are at home, we are that bad on the road, which tells me we must secure a home game first round of the tournament for any hope of advancing. Anyone else tired of being Miami's b!**$?
  8. I happened to listen to the recruiting show on 1350, and I managed to pick up a few things. These guys really liked Alex Allen and even went as far as describing him as a big ten player. Sounds like a good pick up there, Also, there is a good chance that qb prospect Carlton Jackson will be a zip. If this is true, then that's huge for us. Probably the success of MAC quarterbacks played a major part in this one. Also, I thought I heard that we had a verbal from a 6'5 wide receiver, but I am not sure if I heard correctly at the time. Did anyone else here this? They were throwing a lot of names that I have not heard about from insiders.com, and I did not pick up all of them. A kid from Shaker Heights was mentioned as well along with a couple of other Florida prospects. Anyway, this is going to be an outstanding recruiting class. This is where we start building our championship team. One guy commented that he would be shocked if this was not the best class in the MAC. I have to agree.
  9. Marcus Raines was a charged with manslaughter in the murder of a teammate. He initially comitted to Kansas State, but the school withdrew its offer to him once they got wind of the crime. That's why nobody has offered him. He's got the entire package at linebacker, but I'm not sure we really want him on this team.
  10. I think we should take Cruz and play him at TE, since he would be the most solid tight end of the class if we sign him. I think Poindexter should be put at WR. If he can shave some time off his forty, he would give us a size advantage at the wideout position and could create a mismatch for a lot of opposing corners. If Jabari can cut it, I'm sure this prospect can especially with his experience at the position in high school. Some of the other TE's of course could be put at other positions too.
  11. According to theinsiders.com, Akron has finally offered Canton Mickinley senior Antwon Hight. The only other school we are in the running with is the defending champion rockets. Our possible help on the D-line? We'll see how good JD really is.
  12. Terriko Marshall from Maple Heights is supposed to be a good prospect for us on the d-line. We have a verbal from him in the 2005 class. I hope we can get a few more too.
  13. A. This is the same underachieving team that we are all used to. B. Horrible scheduling. C. We lost our best player for the season. D. The team is incapable of winning on the road. E. Another year and another year that the Zips won't make it past the first round of the tourney. F. When is it football season??? (I sound like a Can't fan during football season now )
  14. I'm sorry to say, but Kelly Kennedy MUST GO. It's obvious this squad is not improving and will not improve. I don't really follow women's bball, but this team is embarasing the school. I really don't care if they are not competing for championships, but at least be respectable. If this were the men's team or the football team, there would be a lot of angry fans on this board.
  15. Per today's Plain Dealer, Akron has received a verbal from Cleveland South senior DeAndre DeScott, who played tailback and defensive back in high school. He is 6'1, 195 lbs and runs a 4.4 forty. It sounds like he received offers from Indiana, Iowa, Ball State, and some other schools. He sounds like a good prospect who could see playing time next year. I like how this staff is recruiting the Cleveland schools more.
  16. Thanks. The animations are great.
  17. Which means JD and the gang are really going to have to step it up. Not that they are not doing a good job already, but it seems like we are going to face some serious competition in the next few years, especially if BG ends up in the east.
  18. I was referring to Bubba Walther when I posted that. Sorry I wasn't clear. Middleton is a D-1 player, but I would like to see more size on the team.
  19. I hate to say it, but we've got a loooooooong way to go in hoops. I don't see us getting much success in MAC play. We have to play Miami, Can't, and Bufallo for a total of six games. We even play Toledo twice this year, and we are bad on the road. I just don't see the talent there for us to pull many of these out. We need more size for one thing, and that never gets adressed in recruiting. We keep picking up these little guards like Bubba Walther and Cedric Middleton. Is he even a D-I caliber player? What we need a dominant post player in the middle who can shoot. Look what Can't did with John Edwards. He wasn't a highly touted recruit, but they took a chance at him, and now the guy's in the NBA. The only guy who it week in and week out is Jeremiah Wood, who excells on both the offensive and defensive boards, but other than that, its going to be hard to compete with the rest of the MAC.
  20. http://und.collegesports.com/sports/m-foot.../113004aac.html http://bgi.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=360777 http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/7945874
  21. I've been on some ND message boards and word is that Notre Dame players are voting on whether they really want to go to the bowl or not after Tyrone Willingham "resigned". If that happens, the Zips would be in. I guess we'll see what comes out of this.
  22. I never thought I would be rooting for the big ten. Against a mid major no less!
  23. The buzz at the university is that Akron would most likely play in the SVB, and that would get us in even if we are #57. Don't be suprised if that is the scenario.
  24. Those predictions can't be right. It has us going to the Silicon Valley Bowl, and that bowl is supposed to go to the third best MAC team. I don't know. We'll see.
  25. How about jelousy?
