Wow! I read that those same posts, but guess who is right next to us. Marshall would get the nod before us because of their fan base. Theoretically, we should be going because we won the head to head matchup. This is a huge example of why the bowl system is wrong. The MAC should have four teams bowling for sure, which is great for the conference, but I would be really upset if Marshall gets in. Our guys played their tails off that game, and they deserve to go before Marshall.

I say 25k. I talked to many students, and most of them are coming. We will have a loud student section. The senors will get a great send off.

We have a hoops team?

Funny how that MTSU game may come back to haunt us.

Good point quickzips. A lot of people may say that we got lucky in the Marshall game and that we barely beat the bad MAC teams, but we still one. OSU got it done the same way in their national championship season. It was not always pretty, but they knew how to win. Lee Owens was the exact opposite. He crushed bad teams and made our offense look fancy with big plays, but he lacked the ability to win critical games, and by this time we would be playing for moral victories. Kudos to the Marshall fans, since they have been very gracious after losing such a close game. They could have made a bunch of excuses, but they realized that their team gave us opportunities and we were able to punish them for it. It takes dicipline to mantain composure at that point in a game like that. Go Zips! Shut 'em up!

It sounds like you are still upset by your apparent upset on Friday. All I can say is we know how it feels. Dodo could probably tell you that. (Big Ben and the Hail Mary) The win on Friday was just the beginning of something good for the MAC. Don't worry Marshall, there is a replacement for you lying in northeastern Ohio. Just wait until we bring legit DI-A tlent to this school. By the way, there were plenty of recruits there to witness one heck of a game. Between facilities. the excitement being generated this year, and Frye's ascent into the NFL ranks, I'm convinced Akron will start getting real talented real fast. We already know we have a coaching staff that is showing they know how to win. Once we get the city of Akron behind us and our new stadium on campus, that attendance issue won't even phase us. Thank you Marshall. You just woke the sleeping giant. It's too bad you won't get your "revenge" next year. IF..and I mean IF we can pull it off in Athens, we will draw huge against Miami and will shatter 15k. The game would likely decide the MAC east for both schools, and the Miami fans will show up in large numbers too. We'll see what happens. Lots of teams are stepping up, and the MAC will be in good hands.

According to the insiders.com, the zips have received a verbal from Al-Teric Balaam, a linebacker from New Jersey. Looks like a decent pickup and will likely add to the speed of JD's defense.

I was on Miami's athletics site and I was reading an article from Miami's AD practically pleading for fans to attend tonight's game with Toledo. At first, I thought that all this talk about attendance requirements would never fly, but the athletic departments at the universities seem to think otherwise. He even mentions the attendance requirement in the article. Anyone find it funny how Akron is tossing out FREE tickets to the Marshall game? They are seriously going to need about 30k at this game to get us even close to pulling this off. Seems like our athletic department is desperate to me. This new rule is stupid and wrong. If a school has the resources and comittment to fund a D-1A program, then let them. Here at Akron, we are on the brink of creating something special, and the NCAA wants to knock us down. I hope they get stormed with lawsuits and problems because this is really stupid.

Its not that we are overconfident. Its that we have never really been in this position in a long time. Usually at this time in the season, our season is over, and we are looking for moral victories. Now, we have a national televised game coming up with a record of 4-1 in the MAC. Marshall is much more talented and will definitely have the edge in this one, but with the way our team has been stepping it up weak by weak, we have a good reason to be excited. I'm sure it will be a good game, and exposure like this will be great for both programs. It looks like there will be a good crowd for this one, which will be good.

Some people really need to get a life!

Oops, I meant cavernous.

I atually think the grass seating will give the stadium more of a college football atmosphere. I always thougt it was cool in stadiums. 20k is a great place to start. I would rather see a 20k sold out crowd at a new facility than 20k in the tavernous rubber bowl.

Help is on the way! This facility would be the crown jewel on campus, and it would help us expand. They are already building dorms along exchange. The location is perfect if they can get it next to the fieldhouse. This news could not have come at a better time in the midst of all these attendence threats. By far, this is the best news I have heard all year for the university.

Offers from Tennessee and Florida? We don't have a chance.

Speaking of a new era at UA, I just read the Buchtelite today and I heard constrction has just begun on a new dormitory tower. The interesting part is that it will be located on the property next to exchange. The paper said that UA wants to create an attractive area on that part of campus. Maybe the stadium theory is true. Once, we said that this would be a possible site for a stadium along with a couple dorm facilities. Its nice to see campus expanding. UA is also looking at buying the charter one bank site. The paper also said that on campus housing is in high demand, and that is why the dorm is being built. UA is becoming more of a residential university as opposed to its predominately commuter status. This can only mean good things for athletics. Despite our agonizing season, there seems to be a different feeling on campus. Construction zones are clearing, facilities are open, and campus is looking pretty sweet. You guys have got to check this out. Hang in there everybody! Good times are ahead!

You know what? Can't State thought they would roll us as well. Go and check out their board now. You would think its the end of the Can't sports world. Put 'em in their place Akron!

Man, these losses hurt! I got to a point where I could not watch the game anymore. However, I do agree with the fact that we are just going through a transition phase, and the talent on our roster is bad. Its unbelievable how many guys on our roster who should be playing OAC football. The one solution to this problem is recruiting, and that's what worries me the most about these huge beatings. How can our coaching staff sell a program that gets blown out vs every competitive team it faces? Facilities can only do so much. Look at Can't. They have an indoor facility and a stadium adjacent to campus, and they continue to make up the basement of NCAA football. We must beat Buffalo. We must beat UCF. We must beat Ohio. We need to show these kids something, something that shows we have potential. This February is one of the most important times for this program. Its great that a good number of these Freshmen are gaining experience through playing time. It really says a lot about our depth, huh? We need more building blocks in place. Its up to the guys we pay to run this thing. Signing day will be here before we know it. Which direction will we go?

Where is the love on this board? We get a win and the joint goes haywire. The bottom line is we have the wagon wheel. I have been a tough critic these past few weeks, but the defense won this game for us. Who ever could have predicted this? The fact that we were able to keep Cribbs and Alston in check for much of the game says a lot. The thing we have to realize is these guys are hard to tackle. They make guys miss. However, the defense flew to the ball just like JD promised. If we can get an offensive line, maybe we can get something going. Its a great day being a zip today. We have a great rivalry with Can't, and we they drew almost as much as we did last year when ours was the first game of the season. We showed them off at halftime and gametme, and I discovered that we actually do have fans. We beat Can't! Lets enjoy this!
-
First of all, that was one of the greatest games I've been through as a zip. These three weeks have really been tough, but it was nice to see the the team finally come out with a win, against our archrival nontheless. I also want to say that I was impressed with our students. What a great turnout. The entire endozone, with exception of the band, was filled with UA students. I recognized a whole bunch of them from classes, people I have never seen at a UA football game. Nice to see them come out even after the beatings. I am still very concerned on a couple of things. Our offensive line was terrible in the first half. There were no holes to open up a running game. Can't State blitzed and blitzed and had #5 running for his life. We just were not able to get a drive going. We were lucky Can't had not much of a passing game because we just could not stop the run on defense. Hopefully, the guys have something to get motivated about, and we can salvage something out of this season. The Can't State/UA rival is in great shape. 25k showed up, and if both schools had better teams, I'm sure the place would have sold out. I will look forward to this game again next year.
-
Well, when you lose you get no respect. Our school is the butt of all jokes in college football as well as the MAC for that matter. The players don't seem to realize that. PLEASE BEAT Can't!! This will be a long season if we don't.

Its really tough being a zip fan right now. We get crushed by Penn State a year after putting up a decent fight against a better Wisconsin Team. We can't even score against Virginia even with Superman, and we lose a game that we should win at home. PATHETIC! Now, we have to listen to stupid flush fans from Kan't State this week jabbering on how they are going to crush us with their pot head QB. And you know what? They are probably right! This is supposed to be our year of revenge. Are we really going in the right direction? Maybe JD should take his "visions" and start to show us something. We don't need to be winning every game, but geez, be somewhat competitive. Score points for crying out loud! Just a sign that the future will be bright. I see no positives right now. Show me something!

This team is HORRIBLE. There is no talent whatsoever, and I cannot believe I am paying these guys' tuition. Now I understand why nobody wants to see this freak show every week. Nothing ran smoothly on Saturday. It was like Penn State all over again in the first half. The offense gets a drive going and then they shoot themselves in the foot with turnovers or a sack. Is there anybody on this team that could block? Defense still lacks consistency. They looked great in the third quarter and thats about it. They played like garbage besides that. I say just stick in the second teamers for the Virginia game. Collect the paycheck and come home. Its going to be a ugly. What's even worse is we have a huge chance of losing to Can't the next week. I hate losing to Can't. I bet Charlie wishes he got out of here while he had the chance.

Did anybody check out the PD today? There is a nice article on #5 and mac preseason predictions. Also, on an unrelated note, I was very impressed from what I saw from JD Brookhart. He made it a point to come speak to our band, and after one of the practices in the fieldhouse, the team came over and sang the fight song us. One coach coming to mind who does things like this is Jim Tressel, and we all know what kind of a coach he is. There is definitely a new feeling on this campus, and there is definitely a new attitude on this football team. See you all in Happy Valley! http://www.cleveland.com/ohiocollegesports...41851249620.xml

That's why I hate these scrimmages. They don't tell you anything. When one side of the ball shines, fans tend to wonder if it's a good thing or a bad thing. I wish college football teams could scrimmage other teams in the preseason. Then we could probably get a better idea of what we can expect at Penn State. One thing that worried me with the scrimmage on offense was the lack of a running game. We cannot have a repeat of last year where we cannot punch the ball in the endzone when the opportunity is there. With all of the talent we have at running back, you would think we would be doing better in this area. Also, who else is stepping up in the receiving corp besides Goodwin and Hixon? Sounds to me like these are the only two making plays. Will depth be an issue here? As for the defense, I give them props. They are putting pressure on the qb and apparently shutting down the offense. Its good for them to be able to scrimmage one of the best qb's in college football on a daily basis. If its a matter of our defense being THAT good, then I think we are going to have one heck of a football team.
-
Also, notice that NONE of the practices are open to the public. Just about every other MAC school has a couple practices open. The zips must really be going for the win at Happy Valley as well as the paycheck.
