Another ‘Larry-ism’ was that be brought Arth in and one of the first things he said was “we may not win a lot of ball games, but our numbers will be a lot better.” As it turns out, he was exactly correct. In fact he was too correct. The Zips can be a winning program and not flirt with academic probation, I can’t wait to see it happen!

I don’t think I’ve heard that loser’s name since Akron kicked their ass in the 2013 MAC title. What an arrogant OU intern blowhard. I guess that statement is pretty redundant. The most arrogant fan base in the league, and it’s not even close.

He seems to forget 50+ years of OU football incompetence. Oh, and the championship drought dating back to 1968. Fraud program.
-
Also, I didn’t watch a second of the game but I heard Pinky got tossed.

UCLA DE Edit: holds offers from EMU, Miami OH, Kent. Gotta win out here.

This is absolutely crazy. I can’t say it enough to anyone I’ve talked to. Has a program that’s gone 3-27 over three seasons ever brought in this kind of experience before? This ST coach has been a Mississippi State lifer, now he’s jumping ship to go to Akron. I’m blown away! Can’t wait to get to washing!

WR2 on a 2-10 team? Thank you for playing at Akron, good luck with wherever you go. I’m excited to see what Joe Moorhead does with the extra opening on the roster!
-
Ugly. That will get them blown out on Wednesday if they do it again. They guarded Freeman well and it showed. Trimble with a great 2nd half and thank goodness they were able to bite down when it got critical. On to Wright State.

Horse s*** last 10 minutes by the Zips.

Tribble has a clothing line as well. So cool to see. As far as the game today, I’m very excited and it could be a trap game after 8 days without a game. I hope to see wire to wire domination, but wouldn’t be surprised to see Trimble cool off or XC still struggle a bit. Go Zips!

Press Conference Introducing Coach Moorhead (Thursday 10 am)
LoyalZIP replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
On top of being such a huge Zips guy, Ken enjoys talking about the MAC and the smaller guys instead of just Ohio State and the Browns all the time. He’s been trying to get Sean Lewis on for a couple of years to give him a platform for his program, but he refuses to come on for whatever reason. His loss. Coach Moorhead seems smart enough to use any platform necessary to help make the program matter again. -
The portal very quickly shows us who’s in and who’s out when it comes to players fitting a coach’s culture. Of course it can be frustrating at times when you think you have a good, young prospect who bolts for what we consider a dumb reason (Jermaine Marshall, MBB), but for the most part I think it helps a coach keep a group that is truly bought in. The bad locker room guys can be shown the door, and guys that are unhappy elsewhere and want more accountability, different play style, etc. can come aboard. So I guess I don’t really see it as a good or bad thing, it’s just a new part of building a program. Something that can help coaches be more accountable for how they run things. And I feel good about our football and men’s basketball leadership and their ability to manage this aspect.

Class of '22 Verbal Commits
LoyalZIP replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
He included a pic of former teammate Zach Morton. I’m sure Morton and Ferri are all over him. -
They’re all pretty much the same. The champ used to go to GoDaddy/Dollar General, but there’s not really a specific tie-in anymore. NIU is playing in the Cure Bowl in Orlando against Coastal, which is a pretty cool draw.

Press Conference Introducing Coach Moorhead (Thursday 10 am)
LoyalZIP replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
Very well said, a great analogy and a great lesson about commitment to success. Miami's president basically told the last AD to "go ahead and take care of all of the athletics" and he stopped there. The fan base and donor base seems to have finally broken through that Miami can no longer not try and still be successful, like they did 30 years ago. It's a different day now, and it takes commitment and attention to actually make a difference, and this hire at Akron seems to be birthed from that kind of thinking. This is no Tom Arth, Larry Williams, interim president disaster. Thinking back to how absurd that presser was makes me further realize how doomed that was from the beginning. -
Once it became clear mid last week that JoMo was going to be the guy, I heard from multiple people that he as already reaching out about potential staff, and we've seen the JUCO get offered. I think there are definitely more than we're hearing about working under the radar to get things going, and then its balls to the wall come Jan. 2.

Press Conference Introducing Coach Moorhead (Thursday 10 am)
LoyalZIP replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
Best press conference I've ever seen for an Akron football coach, and it isn't even close! Guthrie mentioned the alignment of the higher ups, and Moorhead mentioned that as a good reason to come home as well. I'm so excited, this is what it feels like to have real potential!!! Coach described the entire game winner of the 2005 championship and made it clear the value of the Wagon Wheel. He had a ton of family on hand. He was visibly emotional and excited. This is our time!!!! -
You could be a GA for your entire career if you wanted to, just racking up degrees. You'd have to live pretty poor, but there's nothing stopping a person from doing it.

Tweet them. If you don't have a Twitter, make one.

Which JUCO Player(s) Do YOU think the Zips Should Recruit?
LoyalZIP replied to zzx's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
He's followed on Twitter by Moorhead and Fessler. Went to UCF initially as a highly rated high school player, has a handful of offers currently. Was recently committed to Mizzou but cited roster room as his reason for de committing. Colorado, So. Miss, Charlotte, UAB, Coastal, ULM, Utah State, USF, ULL, Buffalo, Jackson State. These folks aren't messing around. Aim high!!! -
Kentucky ended up winning by 12. Southern is a damn good opponent for a test that they gave, and I’m glad we scheduled them. They gave us the game a lot of MAC teams will give us, trying to beat you up and beat you down despite being less talented. And their coach and Groce were going at it. This was no KD cupcake.

I worded it poorly. I mean sell suites for the 2022 season. Make it like an open house, you know? Plus, I'd throw in a free car wash + tire shine!
-
Am I bummed? Yeah. Is it the end of the world? No. I would love to have Mumpfield moving forward, but it feels good to have faith in the man in charge to quickly go out and get someone that is just as able and wants to be here.
-
Yeah, the spring showcase thing was whack. I get that the spring game technically takes away a practice session, but it’s a cool way to energize the fan base a little bit on the tails of basketball season heading into the summer. I have a feeling Guthrie would make the push to have one. Sell season tickets. Sell club level. Sell the suites. Have them open to the public, sell beer, post pricing and buying info all over the place. Have the players and coaches sign posters or something afterward. The more interaction and connection, the better. Those are the kinds of things I miss the most from the Brookhart era. I’m hoping Moorhead can bring back some of the pre-Infocision/iCoach aura around Akron football.

The Suffield Fashion Design School Flushes fall to Towson 73-58 at the MAC Center. It was 19-2 at one point and the Flushes got it all the way down to 61-58 with 5:50 left and they didn’t score another point.
