It's not in the top 10. -
Does The Grate One Host The Mother of All Tailgates?
GP1 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
https://www.winstonsalem.com/2024/09/new-entertainment-destination-the-grounds-coming-to-winston-salems-deacon-boulevard-area/ I'm hoping that they can have most or all of this complete by time the Zips come to town. It's really a large and ambitious project. The area around the various areas was very run down. -
Increasing JAR Attendance/Engaging the Fans

I paid $25 to park for the Wake Forest vs Pittsburgh game last Saturday. Didn't think twice about it. Thousands of other people did as well. -
I guess my beef with athletic directors in general is they are figureheads making sure all of the paperwork gets pushed in the right direction. Almost none of them are effective visionaries. Recent decades have proven most execute visions that are ruinous to their organizations.
-
Sometimes an organization can have people on staff who can get things done if they're just given a chance.

I was thinking about this thread as I watched the success of the Zips basketball team. I'm really proud of their accomplishments in the face of a lot of institutional head winds. What would it say about career athletic directors if Akron can maintain a top level basketball team while at same time getting the football program turned around? I know Ohio U has a graduate degree in sports management. What if we are creating a group of "experts" in college athletics who are little more than mental midgets bankrupting every institution they touch? What if we could have a good mac athletic department with a professor heading up the department part time as long as the subordinates were competent? Just sort of thinking out loud.

Moorhead one of 3 candidates to be OC at Michigan??

What could keep him is Akron and the MAC in general introducing some sanity into scheduling. Looks like we are headed that way. In addition, if every other MAC school struggles with nil revenue streams, everything equals out. -

I can't believe Jim Grobe didn't make the list. -

If course, but I'd rather discuss games, tailgating, players and coaches. Nil should be what it's called and should have existed for decades. Players should have been able to hold jobs, sign autographs for money, make personal appearances for money, etc. Now it's people getting together and handing out money. It's all so gross. Many public institutions are in deep financial trouble and this is how they put their fundraising efforts to use? Barf.....
-
It's this exact conversation that is turning me against college sports. I don't care if a guy can make money, but the handouts are gross.

This is awesome. Kent blows.

Zips are destroying these clowns.
-
If you build it, they will come...... Oh, wait, that's been proven to be complete nonsense.
-
And let the City have a say in it.
-
It's a big nothing. Them leaving the MAC is a good thing.
-
It's oversaturated with generally bad play.
-
I think it would be funny if nobody did. Could end up being the worst decision since Akron moved to D1 without any idea of what to do next.
-
Am I understanding this correctly? NIU is leaving the MAC but doesn't have plans finalized yet for all sports?
-
Run the score up on them and send them on their way.

100+ points is getting value for your entertainment dollar.

Most of it is just dumb. I think the media has confused them into believing they are somehow entertainers so they think they need to do something to entertain us other than playing football well. It's all just a bit too much. I'm pretty convinced if the networks would stop showing it, they would stop doing it.
-
You said a mouthful. It's barely football anymore. Bad tackling. Bad coaching. Gimmick kickoffs. Bad QB play. Players can't be physically anymore. Nonsensical "dancing" after routine plays. Too many replays. Too many commercials. Only drunks and degenerate gamblers can enjoy this nonsense, which are the base demographic groups now.

My advice is, rent, don't buy.

I prefer discussions of food and booze over NIL or any of the other crap college athletics has become. Start times between 4-6 PM are ideal for what I like to call a Bang-Bang. This is two suppers. One supper is consumed mid to late afternoon, while the other is consumed after the game in the evening/night. Two o'clock is too early to execute a proper Bang-Bang.
