  1. Right after we build our new downtown basketball arena.
  2. We never stop building all over again.
  3. Most career college football assistant coaches fall into the retread category. Most are a bunch of miserable guys who aren't really smart so they do this for a living. It is unnatural to have a job where you spend your life locked in an office 24/7 watching film of football games. If guys who run Fortune 500 companies can do it while going home every night to sleep, football coaches don't need to be working 24/7. They become manic and lose touch with reality. Abnormality becomes normal. Try to carry on a conversation with some of them. There isn't anything there.
  4. The Zips would have to finish higher in the standings for this to happen. A very helter skelter season. They could continue to get better or they could play like they did in January. Time will tell.
  5. Good points. Here is how I see it. With the past performance, we should have better players on the team. There are reasons we may not have better players right now, but I don't want to go into them as it may throw the board into a frenzy.
  6. That would be interesting reading. Here is a study I would like to see. In the past ten years in the MAC, following a coaching change, how many coaches won the MAC in their first two years? Of those coaches, how many frosh, sophs, jrs and srs were starting on the team (lump juco players recruited by that coach in with frosh and soph numbers). Miami won last year with frosh and sphs on the field. We talk about it all the time. The MAC is the kind of league the Zips could win in the next couple of years if they just get some good players and don't shoot themselves in the foot. That's all Miami did last year. I don't follow it closely enough, but I believe Miami didn't have what were looked at as great recruiting classes. If they can do it, we can do it.
  7. Want to understand how good a recruiting class is? Watch to see how many games they win. Today, we don't really know how good the class is. In four years, we will. I'm more interested in why fans get so caught up in recruiting more than I am the players themselves. There is an old saying. Garbage in....garbage out. If these recruiting rating services are indeed highly flawed, then why do we care about what they say? I don't care where they come from, who coaches them, who recruited them or anything else other than winning.
  8. Haven't even started year two and the rats are abandoning ship. Try hiring someone good after a 1-11 season.....
  9. I like the AAU comparison. Something always smelled funny to me about AAU basketball.
  10. Innocent people get killed everyday. If we can kill thousands in the War on Terror and call it collateral damage (I have no sympathy for them BTW), why can't an abortion be described as collateral damage in a free country? I'm sure a construction worker unemployed for the past 12 months cares much more about getting a job than getting an abortion. Millions male/female couples sodomize each other every day. Don't be a closed minded fool like the idiots on FOX. People who are offended by gay marriage are the kind of people the Republican Party has created. It is an us againt them mentality even if what "they" are doing has nothing to do with you everyday life. We have a +50% divorce rate in this country....maybe the gays could do better.....the straight folks aren't doing that great of a job right now.
  11. It won't happen. They are more worried about same sex marriage and abortion to worry about fiscal issues important to 99% of Americans.
  12. How did they screw up?
  13. I'm not. I'm a real conservative who is desperately concerned the conservative message has been hijacked by a group of complete fools who have sixteenth century ideas about science and childish religious views (Evangelicals).
  14. Article and Video Thanks to FOX News, this idiot is one of the faces of the Republican Party. The Mount Rushmore of the Republican Party used to have Abe Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower and Teddy Roosevelt on it. Today, it is Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sarah Palin and Sean Hannity. If you are a Republican and this doesn't scare you, you are as stupid as Limbaugh, et al.
  15. There's only one reason. Tell that too Cam Newton. You guys don't know what you are talking about. There are a lot of good players playing JUCO for a lot of reasons. Not all are D1 talent, but a lot are. I beg to differ. I do know what I am talking about. I agree there are a lot of good players that play JUCO ball, but they all play JUCO ball for one reason. Before going to a JUCO, Cam Newton had a scholarship and played at Florida. Mike Johnson played at Arizona State before transfering to a JUCO and then later UofA. Yep. Both went the JUCO route for the same reason as every other JUCO player. It's OK to admit you overstated your original point...... Both didn't go because they couldn't get scholarships. They did have scholarships and were at those schools on scholarship and played on the football teams while on scholarship. Would you like to clarify your point?
  16. I see what you are saying, but shooting is shooting whether 20 feet away or one foot away. The little orange ball needs to go through the little orange ring.
  17. The commentator was a she. She was very clear. In fact, I jumped off the sofa and posted that post right after she said it.
  18. Maybe it is really that easy. They are playing a basketball game, not designing a ship to fly to Mars. It's D1 college athletics and because of that the competition is good. They need to do a better job against good competition. KD is the same guy he was when they were winning 20, but now the players can't execute. Maybe it's the players and not the strategies. KD can't shot the ball for them, but he can focus on them doing a better job of shooting. While I don't get to see every game, I do get to see some. The level of difficulty in the MAC is nearly the same as it was five years ago. The players just need to execute better and I think KD focusing on defense and rebounding is not the solution.
  19. 20. I'm watching the CSU vs. Butler game right now. The talking head from ESPN said the Horizon League is the only league in the past six years, outside of the "Power Six" leagues to win an NCAA Tournament game. I thought the MAC has won a game in the last six years.?.?.? If this is true, what does that say about the NCAA Tournament and the idea of expanding the tournament to include every team? You guys know my opinions of the "growers" in college athletics. Most athletic administrators and the people in the NCAA are only qualified to grow weeds. Less teams in the NCAA would be better than more. Even more, if the non power six are this bad, don't let them in. "But GP1, it would leave out teams like Butler".....I know, it would also not subject the rest of America to watching Duke beat the crap out of NC A&T by 60 in the first game. "But GP1, college athletics are about building character and life lessons"......I'm not sure the kids at NC A&T are learning a very valuable life lesson by losing by 60....or, it isn't a life lesson I would find valuable.
  21. Interesting read. Seems to be focused on things that aren't the problem. When there is a problem, don't focus on the little issues around the problem. Focus on the problem itself. The problems as I see them are as follows: First, .421 fieldgoal percentage for the season...terrible. Second, .343 three point fieldgoal percentage for the season...not terrible, but not good either. Third, FT percentage < 70%. The primary goal of basketball is to take the little orange ball and throw it through the little orange ring hanging 10 feet above the floor. The Zips are not doing this at an acceptable level. Scoring a lot of points puts a lot of pressure on the other team. Less defensive practice...more shooting practice. The Zips are being out rebounded because they can't make shots. Missed shots turn into rebounds for the other team. Offensive rebounds are extremely difficult to get so avoid having to get them by making the first shot. Make shots, less rebounds for the other team....it's simple.
  22. There's only one reason. Tell that too Cam Newton. You guys don't know what you are talking about. There are a lot of good players playing JUCO for a lot of reasons. Not all are D1 talent, but a lot are.
  23. Last year wasn't a "write off", it was almost a complete disaster of epic proportions if they don't beat Buffalo the last game. The Zips had something like 16 or 17 returning starters. There was no starting from scratch. They should have done better.
  24. Good question. 3-5 in the MAC as of today. Some believed the team would go 10-6 and have another good season. That was not an unreasonable expectation. They need to go 7-1 the rest of the season to go 10-6. I said a couple of weeks ago that 10-6 was dangerously close to 9-7 or 8-8. 5-3 the remainder of the season would land them at 8-8. I think if they go 8-8 and have an average season everyone would be happy at this point. There are no injuries on the team that would contribute to this poor performance....just poor everything. They need to string at least two wins in a row in order to get some momentum. Confidence and momentum are the keys to a getting out of a slump. It's up to them. They need to get it done. There is no excuse for this. They can do better.
  25. An offensive lineman with "soft hands". Normally, that type of praise is only reserved for WRs.
