With 6 minutes in the 3rd quarter Akron passes on an easy FG and doesn't get any points. Now they are down 17. Coaching really isn't this hard.
-
There are enough experienced players on this team that three points in a half against a mid level MAC school should never happen. This is just plain bad.
-
So 14 of the 22 starters are Jrs and Srs?
-
Sure. I just want to know how many Jrs and Srs of one kind of another are on the team.
-
Out of pure laziness, can someone tell me how many 3-5 year players are starting for Akron?
-
I had planned on coming up for the game this weekend but decided against it. Not knowing the schedule I just figured there would be one more Saturday game since it's still October. So much for that.... God, I hate the Conference leadership. I saw Miami play against BG. This is a winnable game and they need to win. Period.
-
This is a total pet peeve of mine. It's done so infrequently now that it would probably catch most defensive linemen off guard or they simply would not know how to defend against it. Nobody runs the QB sneak anymore and everyone SHOULD be running it.

Boosters have control because the ADs are stupid weaklings. Beamer is the right guy at the right price ($2.75 million/year). USC is a 7-8 win team annually. That's their history with the exception of a few great years under the old ball coach. The BOT was right about Martin. Fire him and who are you going to get? It's a horrible basketball school with one good year in recent memory.

Great post. I was listening to Full Ride last week and a gambling guy was on the show. The topic of hiring coaches came up. It was a really funny conversation for me because he has less respect for athletic directors than I do. Basically, he said he would love to play poker with any athletic director in the NCAA because he would take them to the cleaners. ADs are terrible decision makers because they are playing the game with others money, in almost every case the taxpayers. Imagine how bad of a gambler you would be if the casino gave you $500 to gamble. Nobody who owned a business would fork out the amount of money to guys like Jimbo Fisher, Mel Tucker and the rest of the overpaid hobos coaching out there if it was actually their money. When are these athletic directors going to call the bluffs of these coaches, take a pass on an overpriced snake oil salesman like Fisher and just hire a good coach for half the money? Heck, I'll move to Lansing, MI tomorrow and do just as crappy of a job as Tucker for half the salary and 25% of the buyout when he gets canned in a couple of years.

Woosh.....

Why isn't this Wasel on GoZips.com?
-
Thanks for the post. Brett Biggs was the closest we came to that guy as a RB. However, he came via JC so that four year commitment wasn't there. Also, there was not long term success after his graduation. I love the transfer portal, but it's hard to see a guy who comes second hand as that guy. The Zips can't wait forever for "that guy" in the Joe M. era. I'd tell any freshman who wants to step up that the future is there for the taking, so take it. Win a couple of games the rest of the season. 3-9 is a heck of a lot better than 1-11. There are winnable games so win them.
-
If from four years from now the Zips have a winning record and the program is moving in the right direction, who will be "that guy"? He'll be the guy fans talk about for years as the guy who saved the program. I don't know that guy is on the field right now or even on the team, but the program badly needs him to show up these last few games. For example, John Wolford is the back up QB for the LA Rams. In 2014 he started as a true freshman for Dave Clawson in his first year at Wake Forest. They went 3-9 and he got his butt kicked weekly. Year two, exact same results but there was something different that gave hope. Year three, 7-6 with a bowl win. Year four 8-5 with a big bowl win against Texas A&M. He saved the program and made Dave Clawson's career. Something has to change. Too often fans look for coaches to be the change agents, but it's really up to one young player who has just had enough and lays it all on the line every week in a way that gets others to follow. Or, has the transfer portal made this player too difficult to find? Is this guy on the team and who is he?

I didn't see a second of the game , so what do I know. I like this comment though. The one thing the puncher can't do is make mistakes. Turnovers are deadly. Kent had zero turnovers today. Akron has two. If you are an underdog, you had better not turn the ball over.

If you watch the video and then read this quote, it's clear he had no idea what the game situation was. Was this his fault?....mostly. However, any good basketball coach in the last minute of a game sits in the huddle and the first thing he does is tell the players the basics of the game situation: time remaining, timeouts, immediacies. I know this sounds basic, but they are college kids in the heat of the moment and they have to be reminded of these things. I wonder if he was.
-
I'd pay more than that for two tickets to the circus. It's a cheap price for the clown show that is Kent State.

Just got back from a few days in Las Vegas. About the same time I learned about how the Zips lost, there was a political advertisement on the TV in my room. I think I was more shocked to learn there is political corruption and scandal in Nevada politics than the Zips losing the way they did.

Akron should strive to schedule bottom feeder acc and Big ten games for their pic schedule. Relatively easy travel for players, students, alumni and fans. Use history as your guide and ignore any recent success of a program. Most everything reverts back to averages. These schools would look as follows in any order: Syracuse, Boston College, Pitt, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, Indiana and Minnesota. If they were sane and played one P5 game a year, I just gave them 8 years of games with some shot at winning with a nice check attached.
-
Speaking of odd scheduling, who is this Dallas team UCF is playing?
-
Between now and 2024 Kentucky will reach into their huge pile of SEC Network money and buy out the @Akron game.
-
Where do I buy tickets?!?!?!?!?
-
I like this, but I would like to order it and add a fourth game consisting of a MAC school. Week 1 - Divisional MAC opponent. I thought the Northwestern vs. Nebraska was an exciting and meaningful week 1 game. Week 2 - P5 game and get it over with. Week 3 - G5 Week 4 - FCS game to tune up for the bulk of the MAC schedule. Weeks 5-12 MAC schedule When the divisional MAC school is played on the road, the G5 game should be in Akron and visa versa the next year. I want to see meaningful and compelling games to start the season. MAC fans should not have to wait until October for meaningful football.
-
Thanks for making me look it up. I love you and hate you for it. It reinforces my opinion of how stupid athletic directors are and makes me depressed. Below is the link to it. At one point, did an athletic director sit down and say, "What are the four most uninteresting teams I could put on the OOC schedule that would destroy program momentum and hurt my employer?.....Oh, who cares......I'll be long gone before the games are ever played." https://fbschedules.com/2023-akron-football-schedule/
-
It shouldn't be his say. The Presidents of MAC schools need to get together and make that decision because those below them aren't responsible enough to make them in the best interest of the schools.
-
Let's take these one at a time. Money - Every time the MAC does something for money, it blows up in their face. These games are no different. The wishes of the players - Too bad. They aren't old enough to understand the long term consequences of stupid decisions. If a player enjoys humiliation on a big time TV network, we have the wrong players. P5 schools get their win. Ok, they win, we lose. Some might find success in that....I don't. MAC fans love the travel and big crowds/stadiums. Let me ask a fan who did this recently..... CK, how was it getting kicked in the back by an inbred from TN for 3 hours?..... Personally, I like my experience of a college football game. That includes tailgating, an overnight trip and a competitive game. I can get that in Buffalo, Toledo, Oxford or Winston-Salem. The last word you use is "compete". It's an interesting word because the origins of the word are much different than how we use it today. Originally, it meant to bring out the best in each other. That could be those on your team or the other team. The G5 vs P5 games are not competition. They are really practice games for the P5 schools and less so for the G5 schools. Both teams aren't doing their best and if they were, the scores would be much more lopsided than they are. People who go to these games are paying a lot of money to go watch a practice. Even the large schools know this and it's why schools like OSU are not filling their stadiums for them.
