I was just preparing for the homer that was going to come on and say. "we nearly beat OSU" I know Syracuse is way down, however, Indiana sucks, and they manhandled us.I don't pay much attention to star ratings because they aren't always accurate. However, The OSU, UM, ND, USC, Florida, get mostly 4-5*. The Indiana and Syracuse types get mostly 3* players. Akron gets mostly 1-2* with the occasional 3*, that usually doesn't qualify. The talent level gap is still pretty large.
72 Roo
In reality, we can't predict this game because we don't know what we have. Who knows if we have a QB. If Rodgers doesn't step up I don't feel Jacq can play D1 ball. Last year our coordinators were repeated out-coached. Did they come back ready to make the changes in their coaching necessary to win? Do we have any wide-outs? We'll see. Can our new DB's with Williams stop the pass? As bad as the "Cuse is, we may be just as bad. Then again we could come together and have a hell of a season. No one really knows until we tee it up. See you there
Zipsrifle
I have no idea what to expect from this team this year, and I don't know how anyone knows what we've got. We've got to be the biggest question mark in the country right now. We could be the worst team in the country, or we could be contending for the East. We've got 4-5 good, solid backs in the backfield, but will they have room to run? The OL appears to be pretty deep, but have we made any strides from last season? If we can open up holes, WATCH OUT! If not, and the QB gets tons of pressure, we're screwed. Is CJ11 that improved or will MR step up and be the next Frye or Lefevour? We're moving B Williams over to the defense and A Jones over to the Offense. We've got a WV transfer and 2 JUCO's to step in a WR. The D, who knows what will happen there. Bain could really tear up the MAC and put so much pressure on opposing QB's that our inexperienced backfield won't be an issue, or, our secondary could get lit up all season long, or the secondary could be solid, with Bain and Torrence making an immediate impact and we lock everyone down! I guess at least the special teams will be solid. Right now, to be honest, I'm just gonna show up to the first few games and hold on because I don't think ANYONE knows where this program is headed right now. As I look at our roster I really think we are quite stacked with talent - except for the all-important QB position. If we get the same QB play we received last year then we'll finish near the bottom of the MAC East; if we get good QB play then we'll win the MACC. IMHO. There is more talent on this team top to bottom than at any other time. The talent needs to start turning into wins. Most importantly, the talent needs to start turning into wins against a very poor conference in the MAC.
johnnyzip84
I doubt WE beat Syracuse. I think we lose by at least 14.I don't know, I think the Buckeyes could stay within 7 You know, I've seen you complain mightily about why can't this board be more friendly and open-minded to fans of both the Zips and Buckeyes, but there's no doubt you bring a lot of this on yourself. Now maybe you are just reacting to how you've been treated by some in the past? Perhaps, and much of this may have come before my time on this board. But here are a few of my own comments on some of the things you've said on this thread. TRUE, Syracuse will be favored and it WILL be an upset if the Zips win. But, I think it has all the makings of a pretty competive game (can't wait for this road-trip). While the final score was a little mis-leading, Indiana did NOT manhandle the Zips last year. And, yes the college football forecasters are probably not losing any sleep over how the Zips will perform in 2008, but couldn't you cut a ZIP FAN a break on this board??? And his main point is valid. The Zips are VERY much an enigma heading into the season. And I don't care if it's only the people on this board who care, that doesn't change the reality. My final point is this (and I apologize if someone else has made this point before). Maybe if you changed your name to Zipbuck others here would take you more seriously as a Zip fan. I'd call it "deferring to the home team". Just a thought. BTW, I am NOT trying to start one of THOSE discussions.
g-mann17
Yeah, I bet the college football forecasters are losing sleep thinking about what a question mark the UA football team is. Yay! It's Buckzip, back to only give a rat's ass about OSU and bash the lowly Akron Football program. The one that has no chance against anyone and the one that got creamed by OSU last year. Yep they got beat so bad by OSU who never opened their playbook against in a water logged game where fumbles and turnovers were such a huge deal that the lowly Akron Defense scored the first two points of the game. An Akron team that was huge losers. Hey Buckzip, if we have no chance in anything, why not stop paying attention completely. You lousy troll. "we nearly beat OSU" I guess that's me. I'm the homer.Since I was in a bar that has scarlett and gray all over the place on saturdays, and these people weren't just a little down, they were throwing their hands up in the air and saying "What the fuck?!?!?!" at half time, and I bought some drinks just then for a few of them because I felt a bit like an arse for laughing at their plight. lol
Lee Adams
well...as some of us said a couple of months ago, this will probably be an all or nothing for the ZIPS...either JD and his boys will show they can coach and pull the team together with a 6-6 and win the division OR as happens too often when you bring in a bunch of new, unknown, individuals who are not a team you get a bunch of new, unknown individuals on the field...not a team... a guy i work with lives near JD way out on the west side...talks to him...JD is telling him talent is there...but doesn't know if they can pull it together...have to keep Johnson out of trouble and hope CJ gets his head out of...you know whereare they selling Syracuse tickets here yet? see ya at the DOME! Now, when he starts preaching to us about how we should act as fans and how a real, bigtime program like OSU does things, then we can knock him off his high horse.
