ZZZips
Press Release:Can't, Ohio — Can't State University has suspended Chris Singletary (Chicago, Ill./Florida Prep.) for one game after reviewing the circumstances regarding a flagrant personal foul charged against him in Sunday’s win over Akron. The junior guard will sit out the Golden flushes’ Mid-American Conference Tournament opening round contest against Northern Illinois on Tuesday. “After reviewing the circumstances of the flagrant foul charged against Chris, coach Geno Ford and I have reached the decision to suspend him for Tuesday’s game,” said Laing Kennedy, Can't State’s Director of Athletics, “The interpretation from head referee Terry Wymer, who I have the utmost respect for, was that the action warranted a flagrant foul for a non-basketball play. However Coach Ford and I feel the situation required additional attention and disciplinary action from our end.”“This is strong and appropriate action from the administration and coaching staff at Can't State University,” said MAC Commissioner Rick Chryst. “The conduct that prompted the flagrant personal foul call in yesterday’s Akron contest, and subsequent game ejection of Chris Singletary, is isolated in nature and not at all reflective of the high respect that the Can't State basketball program, and truly the entire league, is known for. In my view, this should return the focus in a very positive manner to the tremendous rivalry that exists between these two institutions.”

ZachTheZip
Discipline? By a coach at Can't? Have we entered a new era?
Quickzips
Seriously. This is what passes for discipline at Can't? A suspension for one game that Can't doesn't even need him in? Doesn't this sound exactly like what he got for violating team rules and for blowing that .13? How well did that message get through to Chris? skip-zip
If the commish really believes that this conduct was "isolated", I'm sure Keith has some other footage he might like to share with him.
Zippysgotagun
Everybody can also find plenty of news clippings to show the commish too, if necessary.
GoZips
Press Release:“After reviewing the circumstances of the flagrant foul charged against Chris, coach Geno Ford and I have reached the decision to suspend him for Tuesday’s game,” said Laing Kennedy, Can't State’s Director of Athletics.Isn't this the same Lame Kannard that original stated that he saw no need for any sort of additional punishment. That the ejection was sufficient?“The interpretation from head referee Terry Wymer, who I have the utmost respect for, was that the action warranted a flagrant foul for a non-basketball play. Terry Wymer, a highly respected MAC official, one of the best has a long and colorful history ofbeing openly prejudiced against Akron. Oh, no one mentioned that. However Coach Ford and I feel the situation required additional attention and disciplinary action from our end.”Lame, feel this ...“This is strong and appropriate action from the administration and coaching staff at Can't State University,” said MAC Commissioner Rick Chryst.A weak, late and insufficient knee jerk reaction to a criminal act by pansy posing as a commissioner. “The conduct that prompted the flagrant personal foul call in yesterday’s Akron contest, and subsequent game ejection of Chris Singletary, is isolated in nature and not at all reflective of the high respect that the Can't State basketball program, and truly the entire league, is known for. This jerk is drinking the same Kool-Aid as Dave Carducci is drunk on. Grape is it? Or Hemlock? In my view, this should return the focus in a very positive manner to the tremendous rivalry that exists between these two institutions.”View? You saw something? What did you see? You were not even there. But, you had a stronglyworded opinion in Singletary's favor before you ever saw the video evidence.
Quickzips
Don't some people define insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?Mark my words, Singletary WILL get in trouble again. He'll get in a fight with a teamate, lose his cool on the floor, get pulled over and start fighting with the cops. Something. This kid WILL get in trouble again. After which we can all look forward to Dave Carducci and the Can't faithful clamoring to give Singletary another chance, downplaying the incident and blaming the victim. This will be followed by Geno Ford, Laing Kennedy and the Can't State Administration giving Chris Singletary another one game suspension. Probably for their home opener against some NAIA team. I've seen this movie before. It always ends the same way.
Dave in Green
Never, ever underestimate the power of a video posted to YouTube. It is the utlimate weapon against deny, deny, deny.If there had been a videocam focused on Singletary for his entire career, Can't and the MAC would never be able to get away with denying that this is anything but an "isolated" incident. 72 Roo
I am glad Can't suspended Singletary, but then again they had to do something. Too many people saw what happened both on TV and YouTube. So Can't took the safe route ... they suspended him for a game in which the opponent has the worst odds in the confernce to win the whole thing. Wow! Did they ever take the high road. If Can't had announced a two game suspension I would have given them some respect. They have a thug on their hands and they continue to let him do what he wants as long as he is a good B-ball player, which he is. They have no honor. That's why my kids will always be taught

Not suspending Singletary would have sent a bad message, about Can't's program, and about the MAC and about the game. You can argue about how long is appropriate and all that, but the point is that something was done. That's what matters. You may think it's a "slap on the wrist", but the point was made. He got an ejection that lasted nearly four quarters, and then he was rebuked by the organization he played for. The message was sent.

The Zips either "man-up" and win, or face the reality that they'd have lost 5-of-their-last-6 to K.e.n.t. We control our own destiny in reaching the finals. No team we'll face is better than the Zips. It comes down to coaching and execution from here on out. It has nothing to do with Singletary. Time to move on.I agree that the Zips players should not get distracted by Singletary.I do not agree that it's time for fans to move on. We've known for a long time that Singletary is a dirty player, but we never had the evidence. Now we do, and we understand how other players have wound up on the floor at Singletary's feet clutching their midsections. Both the MAC and Can't have gone on official record that they believe this is an "isolated" incident and not part of a pattern. MAC refs have demonstrated that they cannot see Singletary sucker punches even when standing a few feet away with a perfect viewing angle. It's completely appropriate for Zips fans to never forget, and to help keep everyone's attention focused on Singletary as long as he is at Can't to help prevent this from happening again. skip-zip
I agree with you Dave. If for no other reason, the longer everyone makes a big deal out of the situation, the more attention he will get from the league, the refs, and the opposing coaches to be wary of his dirty tactics.
