psu1
Yes but we still have loads of talent including Clark, and Royster. The receivers played a ton last season so I am not worried about them. The O-line could be a problem but we will have Wisinewski at center, who is one of the best offensive lineman in the big 10. And Dennis Landolt who could be 2nd or 3rd team in the conference. We have a few highly recruited O-lineman who will be stepping in as well, I'm not sure how well they are going to do but they looked good in the spring game. (I know that doesn't mean a whole lot.) My point is PSU's offense is going to be pretty good this year. Probably not as good as last years but still very good. And if your defense gave up 31 points a game to offenses who weren't that great last year, you could be in for a long day. If Akron wins it will have to be a shootout with a combined 110 points at least. And I'm not sure Akron could keep it up for that long. ZachTheZip
So your incoming recruits are pretty good? I could say the same things about ours."Oh man, yeah we lost our RB but the guys we have replacing him are even better! Our D-line has just added two 4-star players and a monster JUCO. We have a secret weapon TE that just showed up on the roster. Almost every position lost to graduation is getting an upgrade, so we should be pretty good, and even much better than last year." See how easy that was? I just can't wait for football to actually start.

Major props to ya.P.S. The Penn State coaches have moved Landolt, one of two O-linemen with significant playing time, to left tackle, to provide better coverage for Clark's blind side. Just FYI as you plot your defense.

If he could see even a little bit, the line would be 97.5 instead of 27.5. And I'll be playing defensive tackle. I'm 51 years old, 5'6" and 165 pounds, but Joe has confidence in me. Either that, or he is not drinking the "Fear the roo!" kool-aid just yet. Guess we'll find out after I get my first sack of your QB. I promise to be gentle, and not turn him on his head like Tamba Hali did to Troy Smith back in 2005 . . .

You might make second string on our rifle team!At this stage of my life, Zach, I would be lucky to hit a barn with a shotgun, standing just ten feet away from said barn. Haven't fired a shot since just after Desert Storm I . . . See my note to Meister I'm 51 and wear glasses now. Sins of my youth catching up to me. I was pretty good back in the day . . . UA Fan
We're apparently 27-point underdogs.4 touchdowns...wow. I would not bet a lot of money on the lions to cover that spread.Where would you put the spread? The spread is where it needs to be to attract roughly equal amounts of money on both sides, so the losers pay off the winners and the bookies just keep their commission. Unfortunately, I would not bet a lot on the Zips either; we're just too much of an unknown. It's a good game to leave alone, IMO.

UA_Fan, I'll take a good CFB game that provides the following: (a) A good test of Penn State's new O-line, WRs, and D secondary. ( No injuries for either team. © Entertainment on a scale commensurate with the enthusiasm and interest on this thread.Do I want/expect a Lion victory? Of course. You guys want the Zips to win, just as obviously. Whatever happens, it is one game. I'm predicting a 10 - 3 season for the Lions, with a decent bowl game. Do I anticipate one of those losses being to Akron? No, but it could happen. That's why the games are played, right?
MDZip
See these are the kinds of opposing fans I welcome on our board. Fun, knowledgable (even about us some), talks some smack but doesn't sound like an a$$, and absolutely does not dismiss the possibility that (while not likely) a Zips upset is not out of the question. I think he is too cultured for a PSU fan, we really should try to convert him to the correct side.

I save being a butt-hole for certain Iowa fans who post on ESPN. Thanks for the compliments, and MDZip, just for the record, I think the Zips will give Penn State a very good game. Sounds like your front seven on D will pressure our new line, and your offensive strength will test our new DB's.I expect it to come down to bench strength, which leans in PSU's favor. Other than that, I expect a close game for quite awhile. All in all, I can't wait. Everyone busting Penn State for its "easy" OOC sked is being disrespectful to Akron (and, in fairness, a little toward Temple, who supposedly has improved dramatically). I can't defend the games against Syracuse (even with Paulus there) and Eastern Illinois . . . .P.S. "Cultured", MDZip? Does it help I did part of my masters's at Georgetown?
