Player Introductions (Some Suggestions)

Recommended Posts

I'm positive that UA staff reads these forums, so I thought I'd throw out something that could help us this season. A great player introduction. Since Dan Gilbert has taken over the Cavaliers, people have always made sure they are in their seats for player intros. Certainly, the Zips can't afford the fire and pyros that Cleveland can, but there are some things that they can do to make sure the crowd is ready to go come tip off.First, it needs to have great music. Sorry folks, Thunderstruck is not getting the job done. "Requium" in 2007-2008 was outstanding...or maybe steal "I Put On For This City", as the Cavaliers surely won't use it again. Definitely find something good to get people excited.Second, visual/audio highlights need to be incorporated. Video/audio of some of the best Akron plays in 2008-2009 should be shown/heard (French radio calls dubbed to video)...Akron defeating Can't should be shown/heard...the miracle against Toledo, the wins over BG and Miami, and, of course, the win over Buffalo. And then show highlights of the CBS broadcast of Akron (first half only of course). Putting audio/video out there to remind people of the past and to get them to think about the future is the key. Remind them why they are there. When introductions come, flush the player's picture on the screen. And after player introductions, the gameday announcer (younger guy, fires the crowd up) should be sent out to get everyone going. Players feed off the the energy of the crowd, as shown every year in Can't, and as shown as Zips fans packed the Q last March. It might seem silly to some, but a great player introduction could go a long way towards jumpstarting the Zips early in games.

I think about this all the time and really think it's a great way to get the crowd into the game. Sometimes when I hear a song that pumps me up, I picture how it would look having players names called or a team running on the field. I think the slightest creativity could make an audio track the fans would love. I worry about getting the quality video clips being played over and over, especially when I look at the things posted on youtube, but know how cool it can look when done correctly. Throw in some sweet lighting effects and put a scare in the visiting team.I'll add some song suggestions soon.

the intro on green days, panic song ,from album insomniac would be the great song for when team comes on floor ,but for football when there all gathered right before they come out on to field it would be perfect ,think band could play it

I think an interesting idea would be to have some sort of video collage tribute to the history of Zips basketball immediately before the player introductions begin. I'm not sure what the limitations are as far as archived audio and video footage are, but I think it would serve as a reminder of some of the pride and tradition associated with the basketball program, maybe creating some sort of "mystique" to the JAR, and thus enhancing the game day experience. If nothing else it might help to educate new and younger fans as to what some of those banners and pictures hanging in the rafters actually signify and that there actually is a pretty extensive basketball history at our university. Perhaps it would even help to give the current players a renewed sense of creating their own place in the long history of hoops at UA before each game. That, and maybe it will remind some of the old timers and alumni of their heyday back in college :D . It would serve as a reminder of how we got to where we are, who we are, and what it takes to reach new levels of excellence on the court. To be honest, I'm feeling extremely inspired just thinking about it... :champs:

Maybe they could use some of the Michigan NCAA Tourney footage/pictures. Or work their way up from the coaches and moments and then get to Dambrot and show possibly last years tourney game. They should also use the song that the MAC used to show all the MACC memorable moments (sorry I forget the name). Just adding on to your suggestion, but you have to have, somewhere in there, :screwks: WE ARE :champs:

the intro in 07-08 was awesome. the one with requeim (spelling?) as the music. if that didnt get you pumped, then there's no hope. but they should also come up with some sweet player intros also. i wish they could turn off the lights, that always pumped up the crowd.

I know they can't turn the lights off because it takes too long for them to come back on, or something to that effect. I do like the ideas of the history of the Zips - maybe have it build from the Michigan '86 game, to clips of McFadden, Romeo, Dru, Wood, Dials, Ced, etc., then to clips of highlights from last year, then to a group shot with Humpty, Brett, Chris, and Zeke out front...?Love the creative ideas...hopefully someone with the Zips is watching and we don't get Thunderstruck again.

Here are some songs I think could be used during player/team intros. Sorry about the crappy videos, I'm just tryin to find some reference for everyone. I'd rather find something unique than borrow another team's inspiration, though I do think this would work as mentioned:I Put On - Young JeezyI can picture a team running out/being announced to any of these songs:

(0:00-1:47)
(1:14 makes me think of a team running onto the field.)
(Not my favorite, but I'm sure some of the guys would love it.)Used before, but in my opinion these are perfect!Requiem for a Dream (Pretty amazing song all around.)
(I even like the song at the beginning of this video, Ecstasy of Gold, though I'm not sure how it could be incorporated.)I think it would be really cool if each player on the team had the opportunity to pick a song of his own, something that would let him personalize the game intro to his liking. Then have a 10 second clip of the selection remixed into the opening so that the starting line-up is announced in both name and song. When each player has his name announced, his song clip plays. While it would definitely take some extra work, it would add a little variety and personality to the game.

"I Put On" would be a really good intro."As I Am" up until about 1:30-ish would work very well (my personal choice)"Requiem for a Dream" works really well, but an intro song should be one that PUMPS the crowd up... rap or rock seem to do this best.

A few years back the Cavaliers integrated "New Noise" by the Refused off of their album "The Shape of Punk to Come" (and yes, the title is a parody of Ornette Coleman's "The Shape of Jazz to Come") into their huge player intro production. Now THAT is an album that anyone still in their twenties needs to own. When compared to "New Noise", "I put on" makes me want to go sniff some flowers while wearing a patchouli scented tie-dye dress.. But the proof is in the noise:

I believe the Cavaliers cut out all of the vocal tracks and just edited the song to take advantage of the massive and intimidating guitar riff. Also, the concept of "New Noise" does kind of fall in line with the youth on our basketball team, as well as the attitude I'm sure they have in wanting to bring something new to the face of the program. Just a thought...
