http://blog.syracuse.com/orangefootball/20..._and_check.html16 scholarship players and 11 walk-ons are gone. This is not counting graduation losses. They're a 1-AA team in terms of players on scholarship now. And yet they are expecting to be better than they've been in years. They have no depth whatsoever.Akron is going to lay a beatdown of epic proportions on them. I can't wait to see them attempt to talk smack before this game.

Wow. And I thought that the appointment of Rich Rodriquez at the U of M was a debacle. What a wholesale departure. I saw the name of Romale Tucker on the list of defects from 'Cuse (or should we now say "Ex-Cuse"??). He was one of our offers a few years back. You are right, though. Expect the smack from the "Least" of the Big East.Go Zips!!

I hear what your saying about depth and numbers and the fact the Orange just weren't very good last year. But there are a few things that COULD make this a (cliche alert) "trap" game.1) If Marrone is "the guy", I wouldn't necessarily conclude that losing these players is the end of the world for SU. Sometimes you get addition by subtraction in these situations.2) This game comes a week after a trip to Buffalo. Whatever the result is there, the Zip coaches will have their work cut out for them to get the team ready for another trip to the Carrier Dome.3) Syracuse's fan are much more likely to be involved. They HATED Greg Robinson.4) With the game being mid-season, that gives the Orange a little time to become more comfortable with new the new system.Having sais this, I think the Zips should win the game. I just don't think we should be counting on a blow-out at this point. Do you think a few UC fans might have been expecting a blow-out at the Rubber Bowl last year? Give me the "W" in any way, shape or form in this one.

I I were a Syracuse fan I'd be ecstatic that the new regime is running off all the underachievers. If 30 players need to go, so be it. When you're a Big East program and you're getting drubbed, at home, by middle-of-the-pack MAC teams, it calls for something drastic.

If they were clearing out all the underachievers wouldn't they only have about 12 players left?:wave:

[quote name='timmyboy' i noticed trey fairchilds name on this list................a kid that akron was pursuing. Wonder if he will try to make an attempt to come here or not.Timmyboy! Where the heck you been?! Good point w/ Fairchild. We were relatively high on his list, if I remember correctly.

Make that 28 players gone. Their top LB just left because he was "homesick". He was a JUCO.Akron should be able to run right over 'Cuse. Alex Allen getting 300 yards should be a possibility.

E.J. Carter, freshman weakside linebacker, forced into more meaningful action this season than expected because linebacker Derek Hines bolts.

I am sure his dad is out pimping his son to other message boards right now. He was on all kinds of boards saying how interested his son was in each of the schools.

He went to Eastern or Western Kentucky.

Greg Paulus named Orange's starting QB.Paulus is five months removed from finishing up his senior season as a point guard on Duke's basketball team.
Seeing how a guy like Julian Edelmann tore our defense up, Paulus could be Syracuse's best chance to beat the Zips. I'd run him out of the shotgun 20+ times. We've never been able to stop that play when facing an athletic QB.

With the spotlight being on Paulus at QB and all of the turnover on their roster, let's not forget two key players that 'Cuse welcomes back in WR Mike Williams (missed our game last year due to academics) and NT Arthur Jones (a monster......well maybe not his hands). Both of these guys will likely play in the NFL. If they happen to both put in outstanding performances on Oct 24, that will make this game much tougher. Also, I noticed that SU has a off week prior to the game, while the Zips are in Buffalo.

Paulus pulled for Ryan Nassib to start the second half and Nassib responded with a long touchdown pass, per ESPN.
