Dr Z
The current situation has finally made me press play on this years 'Big 33 Game' I like what I see from Ohio's starting QB!
GP1
I don't like losing a senior QB the day before a big game. This just in though, Mike Rasor will miss tomorrow's game due to being stuck to his bed sheets.....
GP1
The last time our starting QB went out with an injury, Charlie Frye led us down the field to beat OU. I hope Rodgers turns out to be that guy tomorrow. Then he went on to win only 19 D-1A games in four years. Let's hope we don't have to live through that again or they can tear down The Big Phone Booth.
Phootss
Ughhhhhhhhhh I gree with Dr Z..I feel punched in the gut. We all make mistakes when we are young, but this is possibly the biggest Akron game in years! We need to rally around the players that are playing. Come on Matt this is your chance to step up!!You break the rules you pay the price. We all learn it eventually.
ZachTheZip
it seems like every team in the MAC has taken a major hit the past few weeks.
72 Roo
This maybe a blessing and that is the only way we can think of it. Welcome to Matt. This is your team. Take it out on the field and win. I have never been impressed with Jacq. His biggest flaw is not physical but mental. He makes bad decisions under pressure. Good luck Matt, win us a game tomorrow.I am extremely impressed with JD. Here's a guy who has his job on the line and he doesn't hesitate to do the right thing, regardless of the consequences. JD stands taller in my eyes. Let's rally around the team and run off a bunch of wins to the MAC championship and beyond. Love ya Zips! Love ya Zips! You couldn't have said it better!I'm actually a big Jacq fan and maybe it's more because i just like the guy, but Rogers in this game might play to our advantage. Think, Indiana hasn't seen much of him because he really just hasn't played all that much. Also, he might be just what this offense needs in terms of a playmaker QB. I personally am a bit excited. xu9697
I think it is pretty simple:We win and Rodgers plays well, he is our starter. Ifwe lose and Rodgers plays well, he is our starter. We lose, Rodgers looks average to awful and Jacq is reinstated soon= Jacq back to starter. My prediction: barring injury to Rodgers, Jacq is done as our starter (and I predicted a huge season for Jacq..sigh).Side note:Don't sweat the burning of the redshirt too much (if it were to happen).Though rare, you could play Nicely this year if necessary and redshirt him next year. Boston College did this about 5 years ago. In addition, if Rodgers plays well and proves he can be the guy, I still think our situation for the next few years at QB looks good. And, if the program is doing well, chances are that we attract even more top prospects at QB.
Captain Kangaroo
To me. everything points to Rodgers being successful.Last week the running game was stagnant until he entered. That slow-developing hand off that always netted 1 yard with Jacquemain all the sudden began netting real yardage. Rodgers threat to run, vs. Jacquemain's threat to plod gives the advantage to Rodgers. Rodgers can avoid a sack. Jacquemain never could. Rodgers can toss the ball up in the air and let Bowser out-leap the cornerback just as Jacquemain could. We lose the seam route. Rodgers arm isn't as good as Jacquemain's. But he can hit Bruce underneath just as successfully as Jacquemain. And I like our chances with Rodgers vs. Jaquemain in a tight game. Rodgers MIGHT have poise. I know Jacquemain didn't. Big Zip
I have always support CJ when others on this board didn't, but this is absolutely unacceptable. I can't see him coming back to the team after this and I'm looking forward to Rogers being in there on a longer leash so he can relax and not press. C'mon Matt beat the Big11. GP1
Don't sweat the burning of the redshirt too much (if it were to happen).Actually, never sweat burning redshirts if you need a player. Recruiting is about bringing more players. Over the long haul, one player for one season rarely makes a difference. If the kid is ready to play, play him. GP1
i'm confused here, everybody keeps talking like he will be coming back this season. isn't he suspended indefinitely? i thought that means he is done for the season. can he really be reinstated? Here is what I think it means. If Rodgers plays well today and the Zips win, CJ will not be back. If Rodgers plays well today and the Zips lose, Rodgers will start next week and CJ will be "working out with the team". If Rodgers lays an egg to day, Rodgers will start next week and CJ will be the back-up.I think the Zips can start out the season 1-3 and still go 7-5 and win the MAC East. They can't do that though if Rodgers can't come through when he actually gets into a game.Keep in mind the logic of "coachers" and "quarterbackers" today...."Put in another quarterback/coach and everything will be better." Coachers and quarterbackers live in a twisted world of intellectual superiority until what they want to happen actually happens. Well, the quarterbackers are about to get their chance today. If Rodgers fails, they can always fall back on another quarterback as the solution to the problem. They will fall back on quarterback after quarterback until there is nobody left to put in. At that point, quarterbackers usually turn into coachers or even worse....growers/builders.Good luck today quarterbackers. I hope you have your theory proven. My only concern is I watched a lot of quarterbackers and coachers as Browns fans when I lived in NE Ohio and I know how that turns out for them year after year.
