GoZips
Mike Foote?Isn't he the referee that killed the Zips down at Dayton with his two shot foul call when Dialswas lofting a desperation three?Jerry Sauder?I thought we had the patent on his bad calls. Dave in Green
Kitty fans actually seem a little less wound up over the refs than Zips fans can get. Watching the last part of the game online, I have to agree that some of the calls were mystifying. But the questionable calls seemed to go both ways. It's just the way it is. It's best to focus on team play and hope the calls roughly even out.
Captain Kangaroo
My complaint regarding MAC refs is their overzealous whistle-blowing that drags games on 45 minutes longer than they should run, and which turns otherwise thrilling competitions into free throw-shooting contests. Quickzips
I honestly don't know how you complain about ref's in the MAC anymore. At this point I think everyone just needs to accept that a MAC game is going to give you physical play, low scoring games, and terrible officiating. Pretty much every team in the league has complained about it for years and nothing has changed. At this point I don't think anything is going to change. Have to just deal with it and move on. Guess I'm pretty much just ready to waive the white flag on this one.

On the women's side, the head ref would make $700-900 a game and the other two were in the $600-800 ballpark. A nice little side job if you ask me, even if they have to drive in from MI or IN to ref a game.

RowdyZip
That bobcatattack thread goes to show you how jaded we are towards our fellas when watching a game. It was even handed poor officiating, on par for the MAC. I'll never whine about the stripes again.
Zips Win!
The last I heard, it was $1,200 per game for a mens game.If we can just start with a no-flopping rule, it would make the games more enjoyable.
ZachTheZip
The NCAA instituted a rule where there is now a circle under the basket like in the NBA. The only problem is that the circle can't be painted on the court and the referees get to decide whether a player was in it or not. They get to make up their own rules under the basket, essentially. In other words if Nic is guarding his man out by the foul line and the ball handler makes a move around Nic towards the basket, the other defender who has rotated into the the area under the basket cannot draw the charge. They are calling that blocking on the defender now.
zen
fouls under the basket in basketball are the most subjective calls in any sport, in my opinion.Even the elusive strike zone can be argued and debated by those watching more definitively (though not contested by the players).I believe that calls down there are so subjective, if you were a dirty ref you could almost completely control a game. A few charges on one end, and a few blocks on the other, and one team gets the message to go timid while the other team knows they can be aggressive, and there is nothing anyone can do about it but complain. No amount of video analysis will make the ref look bad.

Dave in Green
Heck, coaches and players all make mistakes. Even fans, occasionally, don't get it all right. Some are more skilled than others, so some make fewer mistakes. Why should the refs be any different? The MAC generally doesn't get the very best coaches and players in the country, so why should the MAC get the best refs?I'd be satisfied if the refs' mistakes were fairly evenly distributed to both teams on the court, and if they consistently called just enough fouls to keep the thugs from taking over but not so many as to make the game unwatchable. When the refs see one player's fingernail graze a hair on an opponent's arm but miss a Singletary sucker punch, I'm going to voice my displeasure even if it doesn't change anything.
