Scout lists Johnny Robinson (DB), Tyler Williams (QB), and Jabari Thomas (CB) as moving to WR. Frankly, I would rather have a recruit who has actually played the position so they don't need as much coaching in the beginning, which frees up the staff to work on our other myriad problems.

5' 10"

5' 9"

5' 7"

That's ain't gonna cut it at WR.

I'm guessing a kid playing wide receiver just might be more interested in playing in a spread offense where the ball is thrown all over the place instead of playing in our pro style offense. Also a team that went 9-2 and puts up 35 points a game probably seems more interesting than our team too. I know it is Div. 1-AA but they probably would have beat us last year. Going to be tough to recruit if you ask me.

Zips get another verbal! QB Tyrell Goodman.

Went to the same high school as Ianello.

Finally, a wide receiver with decent height.

Welcome Tyrell.

Is this kid a receiver or QB? Not rated by Rivals or Scout - seems like we are grasping at straws. OK all you ICoach supporter - point out one recruit where Akron was chosen over a quality BCS team? A person that is going to AKron because he was impressed by ICoach. So far I am not impressed

Well I'm an AKRON supporter, who is certainly not sold on iCoach at this point. But I'm willing to see what he can do with an entire class of iRecruits. As for your 2nd question, Nick Rossi selected the Zips over WVU and Temple. You can decide whether the 'eers are a quality BCS team or not.

I have to say, I analyzed this on Rivals yesterday and other than Rossi, few if any of the current class had any offers at all from other schools and for every Rossi with quality offers, we beat out Marshall and Youngstown State for others. It seems to me either Ianello cannot compete with others for "known" quality players or he has a pipeline to his kind of player that nobody else has picked up on as a future star. Time will tell.

We need the Plain Dealer to pump up our recruits and team on paper the way they do every year with the Browns. It always amazes me how some schlep with a job at the PD can make a fan excited by writing articles and ignoring reality. There were actually Cavs fans this year that thought the Cavs were going to be good because of things they read in the PD and listening to local dummies on the radio. Maybe if you guys drink a lot you will start to see double. Then you can go to our rivals page and get excited about all the stars you see. Can somebody tell me how many "stars" we had when we won the MAC? How many stars was Jason Taylor, Dwight Smith, Reggie Corner, Chase Blackburn, etc. There are high NFL draft picks that I have seen in training camp, once I see them on the field, I am less than impressed. Stars are not the end-all, be-all measurement of success! You will never know how good any of these recruits really are until you see them on the practice field. JZ, I'm with you, I'm an AKRON fan, and I want to win!

We should hire Lee Owens to talk about our recruiting class to all the fans, or just put him on youtube. Every time I went to his signing day press conference I walked out of there thinking we were going to win the MAC. Then the games started....

And most years after we won the MAC JD's classes were rated at the top or close to the top of the MAC. That didn't pan out so well.

Out of the myriad 3+ star players he signed, maybe 5 or 6 over his career ever became starters. Most never saw the field.

The recruiting services don't keep track of things so far back, but I seem to remember that Jason Taylor, Dwight Smith, Reggie Corner, and Chase Blackburn were highly recruited coming out of high school.

JT's HS coach had to shop him around according to the "must read" in THIS ZNO thread

Much better article on Tyrell Goodman.

Akron has three quarterbacks on its roster, including 2010 starter Patrick Nicely. With the athleticism to play multiple positions, Goodman isn't locked into quarterback. However, that's what he wants to play, and that's what he was recruited as.

"They see me as a quarterback," he said. "They said I'm going to work at the quarterback position, and if I don't like it, I can try something else."

What other schools offered Chase? I was trying to look up how many "stars" Chase got.

He played in the big 33 game, that means more to me than any dumb "stars"

How many of you star lovers remember 4 star recruit Thomas Plummer (source)? He was only one of two 4 star Mac recruits that year.

Rodgers and Iveljik were 3 star recruits. Stars are dumb.

Stars are dumb. I put more stock into position rankings, but only for the "high volume" positions like WR or OL where each school brings in multiple players every year. For example if every school signs 2 WRs then 240 of them get signed. If one of our WRs is rated around 80 then they are somewhere in the upper half of WRs for that class. Of course it's not exact, but if you allow for a decent margin of error then you can make some general assumptions. At the very least a ranking means they have been evaluated and compared to others who were also evaluated. Sure there will be players who never got evaluated who end up all-conference and ranked players who are busts, but it's still a better system than the star system which is far too vague.

Here's a nice sports cross-promotional idea. NIU's football coach will do his signing day press conference live before the NIU basketball game that day. Would Ianello be willing to actually connect with a large number of fans by going in front of a live audience of several thousand to reveal his signed recruits? Is he confident enough in the quality of his recruiting class to do something like this?

This guy thinks Akron's recruiting class could be a special one.

I'm not quite as optimistic. You can't judge a recruiting class by just the top few players. It's ultimately the recruits in the middle who will make up most of your team down the road. A solid core of recruits builds depth and keeps you consistent throughout a season. The top few recruits could push a "good" team into "great" territory, but they lack the ability to make a poor team good.

Bla bla......bla bla bla.........bla bla

Hey Zip fans! Did any of you hear anything just now? No? I didn't think so.

I didn't come here to tout anything. I don't even know if this kid is good. I am just letting you know about recruits that YSU and Akron each have offered. We have a list of 90+ recruits over on LetsGoGuins.com with a number of Akron recruits... Check it out.

I can't take this guy too serious when he says Rossi may replace Brian Thomas at LB.

If the guy doesn't know the names of the starters on the team, he probably isn't too up on other things.
