ZachTheZip
Check this website out. It's basically craigslist for D-I universities trying to schedule basketball games. Some intriguing schools looking for home-and-home games.
Blue & Gold
That website is absolutely amazing! Lol. I can't believe you found that. It makes all the sense in the world, but I had no idea anything like that existed. LOTS of great options right at our fingertips. Have we been sold a bill of goods on how difficult it is for us to schedule? Anyway, that's beside the point. I could waste hours on that website putting together various dream schedules. tpsjugglerdude
Lets pick up Arizona St, Cornell, Kansas, Siena, and Penn State. Thats a good enough schedule upgrade for now. UC Santa Barber is on there too...lets schedule a soccer match.
bUAkronG
couple schools that stand out looking for H&H's are Arizona State Georgia Northeastern New Mexico State Richmond Siena Wright State I think a couple of those teams could be achievable. There are also a lot of quality guarantees I think the Zips could take advantage of. But seeing this makes me even more disappointed with UA's scheduling. Quickzips
Things on there that I would be interested in if I were KD: Cincy looking for one more team for an exempt tournament. Get road games against Cincy and Dayton along w/ a home game vs Mt St Marys and a roadie at Arkansas Little Rock. Home and home series against Tulane. They aren't a very good CUSA team, but getting into some games with CUSA wouldn't be a bad thing and the road trip to New Orleans would be kind of nice. Home and home series with Nevada. Would have to start on the road, but as we know from a few years ago, Nevada is a solid high mid-major. Possible to include them as part of a west coast trip with another team or two? Wyoming? A home and home with Wright State makes a lot of sense geographically and would be a solid mid-major to fill in the schedule. La Salle and St. Bonaventure are lower level A-10 teams, but like Tulane and CUSA playing home and homes against an A-10 team wouldn't hurt. If I am willing to take on a money game without a return game Kansas, Arizona, Arizona State, New Mexico, Stanford, Nebraska, Richmond, Butler, Purdue, Mississippi State, Iowa, BYU, North Texas is traditionally one of the better programs in the Sun Belt and would be nice as part of a package going out west. A home and home with them wouldn't be bad. Cornell is an Ivy League power and is garnering a fair amount of media attention heading into the tournament. Another nice idea for a home and home. Davidson isn't quite as good as the Steph Curry days but would still be a solid home/home. I don't know as we could get it but a home/home with Penn State would be a real coup. Western Kentucky has a long tradition and is a very good program. A home and home with them would make a lot of sense as well. Siena has quietly put together one of the better mid-major programs in the country. They beat Ohio State in the tournament recently and have a good shot at taking down Purdue this week. That would be a nice home/home. Eastern Kentucky wouldn't be a bad filler game. Not going to help the RPI a lot, but not going to hurt it. That gets me about half way through the list with a LOT of possibilities. I am going to be very disappointed if we fill those last four spots with a bunch of teams like St. Francis and Malone. Quickzips
If I were going to fill out the schedule: Home Games: Cleveland State Oral Roberts Wyoming VCU Wright State Western Kentucky Penn State (pipe dream that probably won't happen) St. Bonaventure (in the likely event we can't get Penn State to travel to the JAR) Road Games: Oakland Temple UIC Niagara Purdue Neutral Games: Miami(FL) Indiana State

That is a respect-garnering schedule (and I'm not referring to the NCAA or NIT selection committees. I'm thinking of casual Akron-area basketball fans.) Though the JAR actually works to repel casual fans, real, bonafide D-1 teams coming to the JAR on a regular basis couldn't hurt attendance or interest in the program. I just don't know why it seems to be rocket science that weed to bring beatable teams with name recognition to the JAR. These teams, just like UA, are searching for games. Forget Kansas, Duke & UCLA. Bring on GOOD mid-major programs from recognized mid-major conferences and sprinkle in a few road games against the Cincy's of the world. Quickzips
One thing to keep in mind with that site though. A lot of the postings are for teams that need a game on a specific date. Though a quick glance through the site might indicate a laundry list of potential opponents, we have to remember that we already have 10 OOC games scheduled and those games already scheduled may conflict with the dates that some of these teams are looking for. Still, I have a hard time believing that we couldn't find 4 more quality OOC games looking through that list.

I think it would be a bad idea to bring in a st bonnys or a tulane, even though they are a in a good conferance, it would only hurt our RPI and SOS. we are trying to better ourselves not hurt it. i dont think we should schedule anyone outside of the top 200 in RPI, with the exception of malone of course. anything lower than 150 will hurt us. There was no risk to Purdue in coming here because they felt secure that they could come to the JAR and win. Now we are on a string of 20 win seasons and recognized as one of the best teams in our conference. For a mid to lower level Big 11 team like Penn State that brings up the potential for a loss that would look bad for them. That is why I think it is a pipe dream to get a home and home with Penn State.

We also supposedly have road games scheduled against Oakland, Temple, UIC and Niagra. It has also been reported that we will be part of a preseason tournament with Miami(FL) and Indiana State. Zip Watcher
Gene also made it a habit to got to one MAC school each year. Not always the bad ones .. I can remember the Boilers going into CMU when they were solid, and WMU also. I think the Purdue AD was bullish then about playing road OOH games in the midwest. FB and MBB used to do it about once a year.
Dave in Green
Zach, this is an absolutely spectacular find. This will provide endless hours of entertainment for those fans who are focused on having the Zips improve their SOS. It's hard to believe that any D1 basketball scheduling staff would not already be using this or a similar service. You'd think the word would get around fast about this resource among coaching staffs. But you never know. It is intriguing that Western Michigan just popped up on there this morning so soon after this thread was posted!

GJGood
Depending on who else may be in it, I think I'd like to see us in that St. Marys tournament. Heck, why don't we host our own 8 team three game guarantee tournament? That may be something LeBron could be involved in as well. Just a thought. Invite teams that travel well, like Kentucky, Ohio State or West Virginia, and play Akron, CSU or Can't. Akron, CSU and Can't can each participate two out of three years and the same goes for the bigger schools. The double header was a fun event. MDZip
This one just got posted on the site for Xavier - "Bi curious basketball team seeking same for a discreet home/home encounter". I hope it's real. Maybe we should post looking for a high-major game on one of those SugarDaddy sites.
