I am just pointing out that kids these days like the flash and glitter.

I don't believe that for a second. The ratio of kids like that to kids who don't acre about that crap is the same, the issue is that teams are catering more to the first group, and that's what get the headlines so that's all that people think are out there now.

Is it bad to be in the headlines? You can speculate all you want about who it caters to, I think it is time for a fresh makeover. Look at all the buzz the basketball team got with their jersey changes and the twitter stuff on the backs of their jerseys......its all good man. Better to be in the headlines than no lines in my book. ;)

You must have loved the end part of the Zips last BB season.

Well regarding Akron's uniforms, I actually doubt they'll be making any changes this year. While "style" is very important to recruits, I think our staff is focusing on fixing the problems on the field first. Not that it matters but Can't got some boring new jerseys this season. Nothing special...

I'm ambivalent towards the alternate uniform craze, it doesn't get me excited but if the players and students like it and it can generate some interest in the program then so be it. Some of you may recall Ohio getting black uniforms a couple of years ago and the

. Last year they added a green helmet to the mix.

Now Ohio has 3 basic uniforms- all whites, all greens, all blacks, that they can mix and match into 27 different combos. They wore a different combo for each home game last year, some looked good, others not so much. (side note- the equip mgrs refer the unis as stormtroopers, yodas, and vaders. haha)

Where I see value in alternate uniforms and why I think its worth considering for the Zips at some point is it a good excuse to create an event around a game. For example, Ohio has taken their 2 November weeknight MACtion games and made one into a "

" game and the other a "Greenout" game where the players wear the all black or all green uniforms and the students dress accordingly. Silly? yes. Original? no. Effective? yes. Attendance for those games has been between 17K-19K with strong turnout from the students.

It's worth considering once the wins start happening and the students and fans start getting engaged again.

Nice job of quoting facts here. Those in this thread arguing that it isn't important are simply naive.

Just saw @ZipsFB tweeted a photo from a video shoot tonight. Sadly looks like we'll be wearing the same JD/Ianello uniforms.

In the past two seasons every MAC school has gotten new uniforms except for us. What we have has become outdated and associated with very poor play on the field. Something like uniforms could go a long way in improving our image.

I completely agree with you. That design isn't really that bad...neither was the one before it...but it's time for a new look.
